Got up to 66 ºF today. Probably the warmest temp we'll see around these parts for quite a few months. So I went for a long ride today. No hat and no gloves!
Happy Halloween

Tru,
Great to hear everything is good now.
With no electricity and y'all relying on a generator & fireplace/woodstove and no posts for a while I got to worrying about carbon monoxide.
Just got through eating some SOS. Good Stuff !
While chowing down,I remembered what you said about your Dad making it for all of y'all.
It isn't pretty laughing while eating SOS.

Nice to have tricity, eh? Kids are great in my neighborhood. I live on a dead end street on a peninsula. Crime is virtually non-existent.
Every Halloween, I get big candy bars and put out about 30 of them on the front porch chair. I just leave the door open and the kids take a bar. I'm sure that some kids take more than one, but so what.
About 40 kids showed up this year which is normal. Nothing compared to 50 years ago. I remember when I was a kid going trick or treating with my older sisters. I used to fill up at least one shopping bag. Then we had to dump everything on the living room rug and our mother went through everything and threw away anything that was not wrapped. I usually had enough candy to last until Xmas (of course, my mother had the keys to the candy bin).
What's wrong with Xmas decorations? I have friends that never take them down!
Here is my favorite Xmas light decorations ... some guy in Ohio

Warren, is that the Trans-Siberian Orch. song done with PLC controls and "color organ" effect?
Very cool.
We're on a farm, no kids show up...too far to get from one door to the next.

Yesserebob. Always liked that song. That guy did another one, but its nowhere as good as the Trans-Siberian version.

Warren,
Nice pictures. It was 40 here this morning and is raining pretty hard now and the rain is supposed to go until Saturday. Oh well, as bad as I feel, I doubt if I would have been out driving anyway. And I am waiting to get my property tax bill so I can have a real excuse to feel bad.
We don't hardly ever see any kids any more trick or treating. Things got so bad around here with dope and other stuff in the treats a few years ago that it has just about came to an end except right on each block. For the most parts parents take their kids to parties now to be safe. A real shame as I enjoyed it when I was a kid and they were still trying to think of a name for it. Halloween is actually a distorted version of Hallows Evening.

Have a great trip and visit. The picture is great. She sure is growing from the first picture that I saw of her. Hope the weather back there is nice for your visit.

She came up to Trick or Treat at my office. She was very clear on the point that she was a cowgirl not a cowboy. She had fun but was not feeling well and got tired easily. When we got home last night she said she just wanted to go to bed.

Is there anything better than a 3 hour nap in the middle of the day?
I planned to go TV shopping this afternoon, but its sunny and 70 ºF outside. Time for a ride! Tomorrow is supposed to be 51 ºF and rainy. Much better to shop in the rain.

Warren,
Well you are having the nice weather now and ours isn't. The rain has stopped but it is very overcast and cold. Also supposed to rain through Saturday. Enjoy the ride.
What kind of TV are you going to get? I need to look at a new washing machine and dryer but just hate shopping for anything with a passion. I won't even go get new socks until all of mine are completely full of holes.

I'm not sure what kind, but I'll most likely buy it from Sears or Best Buy. My sister just bought a 37 inch Aquos TV at Sears with 0% interest and payments spread out over 18 months. Will probably get a flat panel LCD. I've been told that the LCD versions have twice the average life as compared to plasma. Got to get the tape measure and record all of the dimensions. Best way to shop ... make sure it fits first. I remember the first time I bought a very nice TV cabinet from a furniture shop for $2500.00 about 10 years ago. The movers could not get it around the corner at the top of the stairs, and it would not come apart. So I still have the $150 put-it-together-yourself TV cabinet.
Ride was nice today. Went about 20 miles. But the temp went from 70 to 58 ºF during the ride, so having the woolen stocking cap in the trunk was a blessing.
Hope you are feeling better. Good to hear from you. Had to get the old old TV out of the cellar closet. Got to watch Jericho tonight.

Warren,
I buy a lot of my stuff from Sears and three years ago I had to get a new TV. I got a 37" flat screen from them, but they told me at that time that the LCD models had a tendency to lose their good color after a few years, so I didn't get one of them though I would have liked to. I am sure that has been corrected by now. Mine is a Sony and I love it. I also have the Sony VCR with tape and DVD players and my satellite will record 100 hours on DVD, so I should be set for the rest of my life. We had to take the door off to get my TV into the bedroom which is where I watch it as I feel bad so much it is easier to lay down and watch the commercials.

Haven't heard about LCDs loosing color in my life. I've been putting them in cars for years. This is a new one on me. So, what exactly did this guy say??
I mean I was looking at a 40 LCD to take the place of our 30 year old consol unit. But if there is a color stability problem, I am not sure I would get one.
Dang, Ron you messed up my LCD buying.

Tru,
Don't go on what that guy said. For one thing that was 3 years ago and another thing was as I later found out, he didn't even work in the TV Department, so I probably got some hear say advise from him. I bought my TV later from another salesman at Sears and he said he hadn't heard of that but wasn't going to say for sure it couldn't happen. I will see if I can find the thread on another site that I belong to that was posted some time back and they have a couple of guys there that do consumer testing, but I don't remember exactly what they said. Two of my friends have bought LCD sets since then and have had no problems at all. The only thing that has kept me from buying one is this one is just 3 years old and I hate to spend that much money again and have to get rid of a perfectly good TV.

Tru,
I found the thread but it goes for pages so I just cut this one answer and it doesn't seem to say anything about their losing contrast.
Quote from: bmalone on November 12, 2004, 09:56:22 AM
Keith, do you see LCD becoming more standard? I know that is a misnomer--too many vendor standards, etc. I like the idea of reduced power consumption. I know they are working on bettering the contrast ratio. So am still sitting on the fence. Plus, I do question the longevity of the LCD sets.
It depends. Are you referring to direct view LCD's (<40") or projection LCD's (>40")? Completely different applications.
If I am to assume you are asking about the direct view LCD's - they will have a huge impact on the direct view CRT market, especially in 19"-34" segment. They offer great resolution and you are right in their improving contrast ratio trend - but - they will cost more than the CRT's and there are a whole lot of folks in which price is the ONLY important characteristic. Also, the large screen CRT makers are working on slimmer CRT's for the 34" market for 2005.
As I mentioned earier billions are being invested in new capacity (>$11 billion) in 2004 alone - this will yield lower prices over the next few years. Life really shouldn't be a huge issue in that LCD's are reflective devices (ie: light is reflected off of them from an external device). Occasionally, you will have bad pixels just like many laptops. This may or may not be a real world issue inthat you may not notice them if the liquid crystals are not stuck(dead) in a high contrast position.
