Mike,
How is the car coming along? I saw over on the FCA site that you were asking abut putting a 63 dash cluster in. Did you get it done and how is the rest coming along.? You should be ready for your frist serious drive soon, no. :) Ron :p |
Ron, I decided against the 63 Dash cluster, I'm getting the dash cluster, radio, heater controls, and the dash bezel off of a 64 500 4 door and I'm going to put all of that stuff in mine for $50. The radio will be more or less for looks... and I always liked the way the 1964 Fairlane 500 dashes looked like. I'm taking my car up to my mom's where there is a 6 car garage... comlete with 2 Novas, a 73 Duster, and the 67 Coronet R/T with a 426 (Buddy is gonna let me drive that when he puts it on the road this year:D :D :D .) When its up there, Im gonna take all of the wheels off, tear the brakes apart, put the brake rebuild kit in, replace the brake lines with stainless ones, put new floor pans in, get that strut bracket welded up, ect, ect. I can get a lot more done up there with a nice garage to work in. After all thats done, all I have to do is put the new interior in (I'm thinking about going with red/white instead of black/blue,) and rebuild the front suspension. We're getting there. Buddys dad was a mechanic for 40 years, and he comes up every Sunday so I wont be short on help/knowledge.

Wow, my dream. A 6 car garage with choice cas in it. The 70 Dodge Dart Swinger with the 340 was one of my favorite MOPARS. Those and the 340 dusters really sent some of the big block crowd home crying after a race. That Cornet R/T withe the Hemi sounds like a real collectors car if it came from the factory with the Hemi.
I finally found a 64 Galaxie 500XL with 4 speed and 427 dual 4s listed but it was the reverse color of what I had. It was black with red interior. The add said it had won several shows but when I called I got suspicious from the way the guy talked. I asked if it was a factory numbers matching 427 and he wouldn't tell me. Then when I asked for the VIN he refused to tell me so I just hung up. I never even asked him what he wanted for it as I was getting very suspicious from the way he talked when I asked him questions about the car. Also I noticed that three days later it was gone from the listings. Ron  |
Actually, its a built up 426 Wedge, but its still really sweet. It originally had a 440 in it, but Bud pulled that motor and set it aside so that if something was to happen he wouldn't ruin the original engine. The 426 is built up though, probably make MORE power than a factory HEMI did.
Its a shame you went able to get more info out of that guy... keep looking, you'll find it. I found my 64' on collectorcartrader.com, they usually have a good number of Fords in there. cars-on-line.com has a bunch of old Fords too. I love those 64' Galaxies... thats why I own the smaller version of it. |
Got the Fairlane up to Bud's garage today, and discovered that I have a rear main oil seal leak. Oh boy, here we go...:JEKYLHYDE
|
Oh well, better to find it now than after you get everything all finished and painted. Shouldn't be that big of a job since you are going to have a lot of the stuff out of there anyway. Now you are starting to learn the hidden truth about cars. They are designed to always have some minor leak or something. :)
Ron  |
I think I have a pretty good Idea of how to get to the seal and replace it. May as well replace the tempreture sending unit while i'm down there. Its funny how cars are designed to have a small leak of some sort at all times, so does that Caterpillar I'm working on.
|
Mike,
I have never had a car that never dripped somewhere and I have had several new ones. I think the Ford FE engine was designed to drip. All the way from my 332 through the 427/428s they all had minor drips and some of them I could never find where they came from and when I did and managed to stop them it usually only lasted a short time. If a minor drip bothers you, just decide where you are going to park it and get a quart of oil and pour it there and then wipe it up leaving the stain. That way you won't notice a few drops of oil. Ron :JEKYLHYDE |
I know why my car is leaking... its marking its teritory since its the only Ford in the garage.
|
Just as long as it doesn't decide to mark it's territory and start spitting oil on the other cars.
Ron  |
hey, Mike, nice to see you posting a bit.
I'm home from Austin. the most fun meet I've been to yet! I'm getting good with the truck/trailer. My buddy Joanne flew down from Love Field to Austin on Friday night, so I took her back up I-35, to the airport; all while pulling the rig. Didn't hit anything. that's good. We had fun. Sorry Fred was AWOL. shudda been there, buddy! :) gotta go. my computer is still locked. :( |
Ron, I dont care where the oil goes, as long as its not on or near the R/T.:JEKYLHYDE
|
Good to hear it was another first class meet !:)
Also both Thelma and Louise mading it back home safely.:3DSMILE: I wish there had been a way to make it this year. With April 17th closing in,I just couldn't take the time this time. Did John Ross get his back in the trailer with anything left of his new BFG Drag Radials ? |
Kristen,
Nice to see you back and glad that you had such a great time. Don't forget to keep reminding Fred of what he missed.  Ron :p |
Gee Mike, shopping hot rods?
1973 Cuda with a 426. You'll never regret owning it and if you can turn it into a concourse car, you can pay for college with the sale. :D Why are mondays sore? Did you all have a nice weekend? |
Tru,
Normal weekend here. Cold and rain all weekend. Supposed to be sunny today but with a cold wind blowing. I need to mow the high weeds in my yards but it will take a few days of warm sun to even get them dry enough to try. I am tired of rain, snow, wind, and cold. Ron :( |
:D Fred.
About John Ross..... the tires made it back ok; but he started blowing the big black cloud of smoke.... I've learned by now that that isn't a good thing. Evidently a 'blown intake gasket?' It's funny and sad to see them dropping like flies on the side of the road. Paul Cass caught a cattle guard with his sidepipe. I think he went ahead and just ripped it off! Jim Woodard had a problem. don't know what it was... Don smith (from royce city) lost a clutch. I am happy to report Pepe ran like a champ!!! yea!!!! Need to put some gas in him, though! ;) just unloaded the trailer; now David can take it back to the farm. Off to the gym! cya. :) Kristen |
Kristen, what is the situation with your computer?
|
Maybe a bigger hammer to help "unlock it"?
|
Flip,
We finally had a day with no rain and wind and some sun. I actually mowed the weeds in my yard but it was way to wet to be mowing as it was like walking on a huge wet sponge. Now I have to change the mower blade as the darn think kept sinking into the ground so much the blade was hitting dirt and rocks most of the time. :JEKYLHYDE Ron  |
