"they" say the snow level is going to drop to 500' and a high of 40 degrees on Saturday

Steve & Mike,
We have had about 2 inches of snow so far, but it is staying cold and the light rain is most likely to turn into snow at any time. The forecast said we could have up to 6 inches but they are never correct so we just wait and see what happens. It is raining right now and really cold. Just as long as the snow doesn't stay on the ground here, I don't mind watching the mountains become white.

Stay warm Ron. I am hoping we don't have a repeat of last year. It really hurt the tree I put in. It got warm like this and then froze. The trees had all begun to bloom then froze. It never really recovered from it. I am hoping it does this year.

We were just finishing up with dinner and helocopter come over the house about 75' up. (no kidding). We decided to go outside and see what was going on. It was a CareFlight that landed in the park two streets over.
It seems two young girls were riding in a golf cart in the community and one fell out and hit her head on the concrete. They had her in the ambulance to get her stable then took off in the helo. I don't know how bad the injury is, but it was bad enought to get CareFlight so ....
She will be in our prayers tonight. All we know is she lives in the community.

SNOW!!! Joe, we had snow and cold rain all day yesterday but none is on the ground this morning. It is mostly clear right now but the forecast keeps changing so it may be raining again in another hour.
The friend of mine that does custom upholstery is coming over after work today and taking the seat out of the 69 Cobra to take it to his place and put new covers on it. After 43 years the driver's seat split where the comfort weave attaches to the solid panel. Si it lasted pretty well.

It is 28° this morning and never got above 42° yesterday. And we have rain forecast for Monday and Tuesday. I guess Winter just doesn't want to leave.

Well a new month and we have rain forecast for tomorrow and Thursday. But yesterday they said we would have rain today with snow mixed in. So far it isn't doing anything but staying cold.

Planted our seasonal flowers this past weekend. All form seeds. Some of them are the size of strawberry seeds. It is amazing how small they are.
Three years ago I bought a little sickly pepper plant that was half dead (for $0.25) I thought I would nurse it back to health. That thing is still alive and has been producing some of the best peppers for salsa we have found. I have no idea what kind of pepper it is other than DAMN HOT. LOL
A few days ago I told you all about a house that burned in our community. It seems the fire started in the fireplace flue. Maybe they had not had the flue cleaned. I don't even know if you can still hire a chimney sweep... can you? they say there is a log you can burn that cleans the inside, but to me that seems counter productive.

Steve,
I don't know about back there but I still see chimney cleaners listed in our paper and phone book adds. But since they are trying to stop wood burning here I don't know how long they may be around.

Steve, the logs work because they are not wood. The smoke bonds with the creosote and makes it really brittle. The heat causes it to crack and fall and you end up with a bunch of brittle black pieces in your ashes for several months. I found a few treatments usually work best. It does not get as good as a chimney sweep, but it helps a lot and keeps it clear.

yea, I have seen those wax logs. I am not to sure about them though. You would think after 25 years of building homes I would know this. I have always just told my clients to have their chimneys cleaned. No one ever asked who to get to do it. Go figure.

The standard wax logs are not the right ones. Those work well as fire starters but not much more. The ones that work, I have only seen 2 brands Creosote Sweeping Log and Chimney Sweeping Log. I have used them and you get black crap falling down all winter long that you clean out when you clean the fire place.

Here is some interesting information I found about this subject.
http://www.chimneysweeponline.com/hocslog.htm
It seems these logs don't do the whole job by themselves. I would not suspect they would but you never know what people say in advertising anymore.

Steve & Joe,
Here is a link to one of the chimney cleaners in Redding. It tells you about all of the things they do.

It isn't expensive to have it done by a Pro,about $100.While cleaning they check the mortar, dampner, cap, etc.,to be sure you have a safe fireplace/chimney.Well worth it !
There are a number of companies in the DFW area.
Google it.

Thanks guys.
I am going to have this chimney cleaned this summer. We did not use it at all over the winter because I don't know the condition of it. I am sure it has never been cleaned. I did not build this home so I don't know anything about what type of flue is in the walls. It is all enclosed so there is no going in the attic and taking a peek at it.
Your right Fred, for $100.00 that is cheap!

Well we are back to our weird weather. It was in the 70s yesterday and is raining some this morning. Tuesday we had hard rain all morning, winds so strong it was almost like a hurricane, cold, snow, sun, and back to windy and raining in a 10 hour period. It is supposed to rain all weekend now.

We had a nice day today. Got the grass cut and the fertilizer out. Looking good.
Hope everyone is OK. We have been busy. Hope it stays that way.
