One of our neighbors tree is doing that really bad. I think it is lack of water. I water our tress in an effort to keep them alive and they are not dripping sap like that.
She also has a (@) 100 year old oak tree that is also looking bad.

My young trees are all dead again because of this. I watered but it just wasn't enough. Plus I think there is something in the fill dirt that they used on my lot and others on my street. From my house to the end of the street we have the smallest and weakest trees of the entire neighborhood.

Joe,
I have that problem with getting grass to grow and so do four other houses on this block. When I first built my house I tried everything to get a good lawn and about the time the grass would get high enough to start thinking about mowing it, it would turn brown and all die. I even had a couple of the nurseries come out and take soil samples. Then I had the whole top 8 inches scraped of and new supposedly good dirt hauled in and spread and it is the same. So I quit trying and just have two yards full of dust now. A couple of the neighbors had gravel hauled in and covered theirs with that.

The Bermuda grass they put down seems to do fine on it, so I don't think mine is the surface. I think it is a little farther down. I think this fall, I will spend the money for a more mature tree that will go even deeper and maybe that will take care of my problem.

Joe,with this being an ongoing problem that even goes past your own property you need help.
For your tree problem at least.
It would be well worth the money and cheaper to get an Arborist to look your tree(s) and soil over. They aren't expensive for what they can do for you.
Replacing trees to just watch them die over & over gets expensive pretty fat.

We had a house once that had bad soil. I added some gypsum to the soil and that helped a great deal.
When we plant trees I always dig a much bigger hole than the base of the tree and fill it with peat moss and miracle grow planting soil. They always seem to do real well, if we keep them watered.
Our trees are doing a little better right now. I have had to water them every single day though.
There was some rain come through the metroplex today. It missed us but Garland got a little I think.

We got about ten minutes of rain yesterday. It was really nice temperature wise until about noon. Then it got up to 103* and stayed there. The expected high today is 105*. Boy do we need a break from this heat.
I saw that our area is only down 15% of our water resources, while others East of us are down 33%.
hey Joe,
What water rationing level are you on? We are at level 1, pretty much water when we want just check we are not wasting any.

We have been at level 2. Can only water 1 day a week. We did get a little rain yesterday but it still hit 100°. Supposed to be a cold front coming through later this week though I saw last night. Hopefully it will be a nice comfortable 95° highs around here.
Pretty sad that I actually look forward to 95° and call it comfortable.

I went for a drive this weekend and Lake Lavon is at the lowest I have ever seen it. It is even worse than 4 years ago. Odd thing is the site shows only 10' low but I do not remember the water being that far back from the bridge. I remember the east side being dry and the water being just a few feet from the bridge on the west side. Saturday it was at least 40 yards back from the bridge on the west side.

yea, Lewisville looks lower than they say it is. The 380 bridge has not seen water for over a month now. It is dry enough there the grass has grown in what was once the bottom of the lake. I sear the grass is three feet high in the bottom of the lake.
The other day we saw some kids in a 4 x 4 driving around in the bottom of the dry lake beds. They were no where near the water. Just kicking up some dust.
Ron,
How is Lake Shasta doing?

Same at Lavon Steve. Grass was at least a couple of feet tall.

Steve,
The lake is dropping as they are having to release water from it in order to protect the fish. But as of this time, they are not expecting any rationing if people will just not go out and waste a lot of water. If we get through next month ok, then things should be in good shape. It is the heat and dust here that is really making it bad. And our heat is down from the normal summers of 115+.

yea, we need a break from theheat as well Ron. It is getting tough again around here.
I saw we have a storm in the Gulf so that may help a little if it gets this far north. We'll see.

Well it is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since the World Trade Center disaster. I have been watching some shows on TV that have videos that were never shown to the public before and it was even worse than it looked. Some of the videos were taken by rescue people and showed everything including body parts as they marked their location.

It will never be forgotten.
