Well, the dead cyclinder isn't as complimacated as I thought it was gonna be. The injectors are suppost to fire at 2200-2300 PSI... #1 Injector was firing at above 5000 PSI.

Black smoke is never good... It usually means that too much fuel is getting into the engine, and it gets re-ignited in the exhaust. Well, thats the way Diesels are

Tru... you described one of my dream cars... only I would want a convertible/shaker/4 Speed combo. I'm not pickey

First, a cuda was not ment to be a convertible.

Second, the serpentine conversion has been completed. It only took a lathe, mill and five hours to alter the pulleys.

However, with an under drive system, I seem to have some sort of heat problem. It took forever to get warm ( something I didn't expect ) and the alternator pully is a bit bigger, thus delivering only 12.8 V at idle. I might have to bump the idle to get voltage.

I seem to have developed a lifter slap. I suppose I'll have to adjust them again. Roller rockers, they only stay adjusted for a short time.

So, the new tach is a no-go. It looks huge and blocks too many other things. I suppose I'll be doing a major cleanup and wipe down. The car is filthy, even after being stored under the cover.

That's the latest.

Ron, you should get a boat. Your entire neighborhood is going to look like Venice, buildings surrounded by water.

Question

Tru,

Isn't the reason for an underdrive setup to save a few horsepower and spin the pulleys faster or do I have that in reverse? As for the voltage, could you go to a smaller pulley without having to do everything over? I just have the standard size pulleys on mine so I don't have any voltage problems. It runs around 13 1/2 to just a hair over 14 volts. If I am correct about the underdrive spinning tha pulleys faster, then the water pump would be pumpng the cold wather through the engine faster and it will take a little longer to get heat in it. But it sounds as if you are making a lot of progress.
I did get out yesterday morning and mowed the high weeds in the yards and it was so wet it was miserable. Three hours later it was raining again.

Reverse.
Smaller pulley dia means pump runs less water thru system as compared to stock dia pulleys.

Also, pulley dia should have minimal impact on the "time" it takes sytem to get warm since the thermostat should be closed.

Warren,

Thanks for straightening that out. Since I have never had any underdrive stuff I can never remember just which way what works. I just thought they used it mainly to gain a little power but wasn't even sure of that. In this case if the water pump is turning slower and pumping less water it seems it should warm up faster. As for the voltage drop, then could that be attributed to the fact the belt is turning a little slower?

Well, guys, I can say that it got to T'Stat temp but the fan didn't kick on and it didn't go any higher ( stat set at 180, fan kicks at 185, but I checked it and it actually starts at 187 ).

I have a march pulley on the alternator, I think I will just bump the idle to 900 and see what it does.

I found the keys on my lathe were reverse marked, made the setup take longer.

The crank is smaller and the water pump is about the same as the old pulley.

Tru,
You should expect it to go discharge at idle when the fan does come on.
I ended up going to a 100 amp one wire.Problem solved.

Tru,

Since my engine is so different it is hard for me to really know what will work. Mine idles at 1,000 to 1,100, which is what is called for. I tried it at 850/900 and it keeps loading up to bad and then will stumble and die when I try to ease off from a stop.
Have you tried lifting anything on the lift yet?

Ron

That is on the desired tasks to be performed this evening list.

I think I like the bump to a little more idle, Mine loads up when cold, but seems fine after it is up to temp.

I need to figure out this lifter slap.

Tru,

Are your lifters hydraulic or solids, and is the noise from just one side or both sides? My solid lifter engine always makes some noise as you can't adjust them to tight. One guy here was going to get all of that noise out of his engine and he did. It ran really quite after about 1 mile as he bent almost every pushrod in it and really messed it up in general. I think he really thightened down the rockers past just touching the top of the push rods though as he is one of those if a little if good a lot is better type.

hi, tru. saw you called this evening. The computer problem is slowly getting solved. I have it 'back', but not on my user account, so can't get to any of my email, pics. or such.
I hate computers.
But, this is better than nothing, I guess. So far, it's like starting with a wiped hard drive. Somewhere is the admin. user account, but can't find it yet.

Hydraulic and the slap went away...when my wife drove the car last night. Hmmm.... This seems to be a female thing. Is it possible the Cobra is female?

Anyway!!!!!!!!!!! The lift lifts cars and trucks. No pics ( was too busy looking at the PT ), but it lifts the car enough that I can work under the car without lying on my back. I'm still fixing the lift, it has "Issues".

So, I found out the PT has made an impact connection to a parking block or something hard. The lower valance panel is broken and there are several things damaged. I am going to have to fix it.

Yeah!

Tru,

I know that my Cobra has to be female. It never pays any attention to anything I say and has no common sense at all.
Glad the lifter noise stopped. You will have that lift in shape soon.

Ron,

I think I'm right behind you now with the rain we have been getting here
lately, tomorrow will make 40 days straight. This is Hawaii, not Oregon,
Washington, or northern California. I haven't driven my Cobra in a month
now. When will it end - oh the inhumanity of it. all Enough for today.

Flip,

Wow, better start building the Ark. As of yesterday we were almost 20" above our normal for this time of year and the forecast is for one partly cloudy day in the next 5 days. Now if it isn't raining everyone wonders what is going to happen. In all my years here I have never seen a Winter like this and it shows no signs of quitting. And the first of the show and shines for the big april car shhow is Saturday, so it looks as if I won my argument that moving it to the first week of april was crazy. As for a month about driving the Cobra, I haven't even started mine in almost 5 months. Can't run it in the garage and no way am I going to pull it out and have it full of water in a couple of minutes. I think I had probably be ahead to change the oil before I drive it even though that oil has no mileage on it, but it has set so long I wonder.

Mike,

Very impressive. But you are going to have a devil of a time fitting that into your fairlane. You may not have a lot of speed, but I bet no other car could out push you.
