Tru
2nd relay same as the first. Its not the relay, its something else.

I'll find it, or just drive during the daylight.

What I am curious about is not that Ford and the C word are different. It is that most people here and elsewhere will refer to their ratio as a 3.73,when it is a 3.70 . (9")

Fred,

Could have something to do with the paper work when you order the car. My 69 Cobra had 3:91s on the order form and it is in the 69 Cobra registry, the gear ratios are given as 3:91 posi-trac. I have never taken the ring gear and pinion out and counted the teeth to see if they are 3:91s or 3:90s. However I do know that once when I was talking about ordering a spare rear end they only had the 3:91s and 4:11s i for that car.

Just so you know, I have a 4:11 on the shelf. I also have a 3:89. Both are for a Ford nine inch rear end.

My deal for the T56 went away last night. I am back to looking...again.

Maybe I should get rid of the whole high HP, high RPM thing and just put a stock 302 in with a 3.23 rear gear ( I had one of those ).

Kristen, what does the backpack look like????

Warren, may I suggest a close inspection of the headlamp assemblies. There should be three wires from each. One is ground. Please make sure it is connected to ground. Then, connect a wire ( jumper to 12V ) to one of the other leads, the lights should come on. Then connect the two leads together to make the highs work. If none of this works with a simple jumper, it isn't going to work with a relay.

Ron, you have such a big heart to be willing to work on Warren's car.

Tru,

About the only thing that I understand about cars is the electrical systems. And since Warren's is already not working I could try a couple of things I would like to do but don't want to do it on a working system. Mine had the wiring so messed up when I bough it that I spent a month tracing and trying to find leads that were wrong and in some cases I just cut the whole loom and went to NAPA and bought colored wires and ran a whole new set. Mine are all white with the little numbers on them every so often and of course when the guy painted the motor compartment, he painted the wires. And with my eye site, I can't hardly make out those small numbers anyway. I actually traced one ground lead to a screw that was screwed into the fiberglass. I finally got my toner from my old Lab days out and used it to trace wires from front to back.
What year is your 3:89s? My Ford gear ratio book only shows them for the 9" until 1967. Also do you have the complete pumpkin or just the ring and pinion gears?

well you know, it's a hiking backpack. Exterior frame, tons of little pockets for all that little stuff.

Hope it'll hold up for another trip to Philmont, for #2. (in a couple of summers)

The 3:89 is from a mustang, I do not remember the year. It's just the ring and pinion.

The pack should last at least a couple of years. Maybe put it in storage.

Tru,
Plan B didn't get the desired results. Got a lot of obscene comments but no answers to my question.

Plan A was asking Kristen.
Didn't get an answer but at least there wasn't an obscene comment.

Plan C - Got an ideas ???

Exclamation

Its 59 ºF outside with a forcast of sunny and 73 ºF today. Did we lose a couple of months? Maybe I had an extra long nap?

Guess I'll have to wear a jacket on todays ride if I leave now!

Fred,

I haven't seen any 3:91 gears listed except in the Ford book for the 69 Cobras. Not sure if you could order them in the GTs or not. The 3:70/3:73 I don't know about as my rear end in the replica is an 8.8". And it has a 3:27 with a built up Eaton Posi Trac and 31 spline axles. I need to sell it as I don't ever drive it any more. In pretty good shape and cheap.

Got to looking around about the 3.91's.
Turns out they were available thru the '71 model ( at least ) in both Ford/Mercury with the Drag Pak option.

Well, Other than changing the rear gear ratio, I would like to get some sort of overdrive and drop my GPH usage.

Warren, have fun. I would think you would at least want to work on some headlights...somewhere.

Fred, perhaps there should be less planning and more enjoyment.

I am moving to plan B on the trans.

Warren,

Since I am not sure just how your head lights are wired I am only making a suggestion. Mine have 3 leads. One for High, one for Low, and one that goes to ground for both headlights. If I lose the ground, I lose both high and low beam. If you have a volt/ohm meter and can get to your leads, check them from the headlights to ground. Best way is with the leads disconnected so you can read the ground lead and you should have a basically zero or like a dead short reading. If so, then you have to start looking at the power leads. If yours is like mine, the fact that you have High beams would tend to say the ground is ok, but you never can say for sure on anything. Good luck.

Ron

Chances are the ground is okay. The highs work if he pulls the switch.

I would do a force operation and see if they work as Ron has described.

Too busy today to check the lights.

Food shopping, clothes shopping, did some work in the gardens, paid the bills, took a nap, did 3 loads of wash, watched some TV and took 3 (THREE) ride in the Cobra seeing it was a clear blue sky and the temp only got up to 73 ºF.

What a day. Tough life ... but somebody's got to do it.

Warren,

Your life sounds as tough as mine, except you do a lot more than I do. I hardly even look at the cars any more and wish I could get rid of them. Things aren't going in a good direrction for me to just be out having fun with then past few months.
