Morning everyone

Look at this link. The speedo says 150 - 160?? MPH (yes Warren MPH) But if you look at the traffic there is no way. The speedo must have the wrong gear in it or something;

Gud morn y'all.
Yep, that Cobra thar is suree fast ... but that speedo musta be wong. Probably the wrong speedo gear in the tranny, because it is a 5 speed, and it was in 5th gear. Looked about 100 MPH or so.

Did you notice the MPH indicated dropped about 30 MPH the instant he lifted off the loud pedal. That is some heavy compression braking.

Ron, do not worry. As soon as the coupe is returned you will be driving it. I guarantee it!

Steve - sorry, but we do not use concrete up here for streets or highways .. just good old asphalt.

Tru - hope you are high and dry ... and you had just enough rain to help the trees.

Temp here supposed to be 73°F and cloudy. But I still may be forced into going for a ride.

Hey Fred - here are my buddies. No fat horny beasts or trollop frogs for me.

Steve,

That is like that friend of mine with the Cobra and 429 with two fours. I never did believe the gas mileage he said he got and one day we were coming home from Red Bluff and I was following him and I was really disgusted as I had to stay in 3rd and 4th gear to stay behind him. Even the school buss passed us and this is on the freeway with a 70 MPH limit. When we finally got to his house I asked him why he insisted on driving 45 to 55 MPH all the way home. He had his neighbor with him and they both said his speedometer was reading 80 MPH. I told him I now know how he gets that great gas mileage and he still wouldn't believe me, so there is a marked place on the freeway that is exactly 10 miles. We went and he drove that 10 miles and his speedometer registered around 18/22 miles I think it was. And he still hasn't changed that gear as he likes the great mileage.

Ron

Ron - I'm amazed that the friend could not tell the difference between 40 and 80 MPH. Granted, in my Cobra, the speed "looks" about 10 MPH faster that the speedo in city driving. Its probably because I'm closer to the ground as compared to my daily driver.

I always wondered how accurate my speedo (and other gauges) were in my SPF. The gas gauge is way off, but that's a sender problem (per SPF). The temp gauges are OK. But I tried to find a measured mile in my area. Sent e-mail to highway dept and they said there was one about 60 miles from my house! Thanks a lot Long way to travel. Never got there.

Year before last I had the car dynoed and at full song in 4th gear the speedo indicated 131 MPH when the dyno measured the speed at 130. Close enough for me. I was surprised.

Temp all the way up to 68°F at 11AM. Damn, looks like I'll be forced to take another ride this afternoon. Of course, I'm going to Tasca Ford car show on Saturday (Carroll Shelby & John Force) and the forecast is for low 90's and humid! Ugh! Hate the humidity.

Steve - you have 98 chances left, so don't waste them.

Warren,

If you knew this friend you wouldn't be amazed at all. He is filthy rich and owns I don't know how many cars and what all. But he just doesn't have much idea about handling and such stuff. In fact after one of our road races out on an old piece of highway that winds through the low hills and desert, when we got back his neighbor just couldn't understand how my Cobra with just one carb could possibly beat his as he had two carbs. His car scares me to drive it. The body sways all over, the brakes won't stop it in less than 100" from 60 MPH, and it really needs to be gone through and set up. In fact he is now so scared of the brakes he won't hardly move it.

Okay, the speed in the video of the reverse gear speedo looks to be okay, the guy backed off as the camera panned out to the traffic. He was probably doing 90 when the camera was shooting ahead.

The pic of the turtles on the log is good, looks like there could be another one under water.

I have my Speedo at 1 MPH over what it is actually going ( I used a state trooper and a GPS to check ).

Well, the side pipes pretty bad on the passenger side. I may have to get new pipes.

Tru,

Sorry about the side pipes. What made it split so bad? And can you buy just one of them or do you have to get the set?

I am going to let a welder look at it before I write it off.

I found a mine shaft in London and I do not wonder if it got cracked there and finally just broke from being torqued.

I'll figure something out.

I've done 145 easy in mine, I have a few people that will swear to it.

Yeah, he could be doing 160, then again, his speedo may not be linear and as it backed off it was closer to what he was doing. I mean, we did not see the traffic when he was doing 160. The speedo was like 100 or there about when the guy panned to the traffic.

Well, the welder was so good, I could clean this up and you would have a hard time telling it from the factory job.

Looks like it will take about a day to clean up the pipes and get them bolted back on.

I could be out and about on Saturday or Sunday.

Yeeeaaaa Tru.

I just got thru with a short ride, and then spent the last 4 hours cleaning the Cobra. I even used my Bissel rug cleaner on the floor mats. Boy, what a difference. Took the fire extinguisher out of its cradle and polished the chrome ... first time in 4 years

Well, the humidity is starting to increase to a point where it feels sticky, even though the temp was only about 70°F this afternoon.

Supposed to be hot and humid for the next few days. Glad I cleaned the Cobra today rather than tomorrow.

Well, time for a late supper.

Lost Electricity last night, the whole house was sticky. The humidity must be 80%.

Came on about 4 in the morning. I ran around and closed the windows and got the air running.

Looks like it is cloudy and over cast today...perfect for working on the car.

I see Rick Parker installed Webbers and tuned them.

I keep asking this question, and get no answer. How are the sidepipes mounted? I keep reading that they are a constant problem on all makes. They need to move as much as the engine torques, or something will give.

There are 2 pics here that might help.
