Now that the worst of the storm has passed here at work, I can get online again. Just in time for my lunch break. Here is what weather.com says:
Quote:
...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1215 PM CDT FOR SOUTHERN COLLIN COUNTY...
AT 1201 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 6 MILES SOUTH OF JOSEPHINE TO 37 MILES SOUTHWEST OF PLANO...MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 44 MPH. ALTHOUGH THE LEADING EDGE OF THE STORMS HAS MOVED SOUTH OF COLLIN COUNTY...LOCALLY STRONG WINDS TO 60 MPH REMAIN POSSIBLE OVER SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY THROUGH 1215 PM.
FOR YOUR PROTECTION MOVE TO A STURDY SHELTER UNTIL THE STORM HAS PASSED.
|
This morning they were saying isolated light thunderstorms 20% chance of rain.

Joe,
You are having awful weather and we are burning up out here. I wish we could have some of that flood water that is ruining the center part of the country. The winds we don't need, especially with the fires just now starting to be controlled.

We have been spared the flooding so far, but this storm came out of nowhere and it was moving fast. I would bet that we got 1-2" of rain in about 30 min. Storm drains could not keep up and the parking lot was flooded. Rain has stopped here for a little while now, but the drain from the roof is right by my desk and it hasn't slowed in the amount of water draining yet.
I understand what you feel with the drought. We were lucky and ours broke after 5-6 years. It was a very dry summer in 2000, but heavy storms in the fall evened it out. Starting in 01 through 06 there was progressively less rain each year. I know in 06 we finished the year 16" below average for rainfall. Each year being below, it just compounded. Then last year the rains just would not stop. We got almost triple the annual rainfall. There were many cases of flooding this time of the year. A guy I know that is a WWII memorabilia collector has a 1944 2 1/2ton truck with snorkel intake and exhaust stacks, was using it to help the city of Denton get people from their homes to safety. He has video of water coming over the hood of the truck while driving down the street. At times people in the back had to hold on to keep from being swept out the back by the rushing water.

Well I hope that you can avoid any flooding. I have been reading posts on other sites by people that have property in some of the flooded areas and it is really a mess. One thing I have never really understood was the Army COE building dirt levees and letting developers build homes on flood plains. Sooner or later, that dirt is going to become water soaked and give way. Where I am I don't have to worry about flooding, but fire is a real threat. About 5 years ago the fires came within 3/4ths of a mile of my house on three sides. Now the brush and dead trees left from those fires is worse than it has ever been. That is why this year they have been calling out the forestry bombers just for house fires. I have never seen that done before in all the years I have lived here. They just feel they can't take a chance on letting any fire get into the trees right now.

Well with the typical news we get here, they haven't even mentioned anything about the storms and flooding yet this morning. All to busy filling the air with the crap about two gay men in Redding that are getting married. For crying out loud, yesterday's paper had the whole front page full of their pictures and a big write up about them. This stupid newspaper should be shut down.

The great Commonwealth of Taxachusetts welcomes all gays and lesbians from the great state of Kalifornicator. Two states where the stupid judges don't care what the people want or how they vote.
Ron - you should be able to marry your puppies and get a tax break.
Joe - we had the same thunderstorm last night. Boy was the thunder loud, and it poured for about 30 minutes. Of course, I was driving home in my daily driver with the wipers on full blast and all the cars on the 60 MPH highway were doing about 35 MPH. As soon as I got home it stopped raining. But the lightning continued for another 30 minutes.
I'm planning to go to a cruise night tonight .. and they have a thunderstorm warning in the area ... very strange since the temp only got up to 72°F today. I'd certainly hate to be caught in a downpour like yesterday in the Cobra. If I am caught, I could rent it out as a pool.

Yea, we got high winds and it rained bad for about twenty minutes or so. The streets looked like a river. Today was trash day and of coarse it was blown all over the neighborhood.
But we didn't get any flooding and nothing got torn up. Truthfully we need the rain to keep the lakes full. We have been letting water of the lakes to help the folks downstream and this will help ever more. So Thank Goodness for the rain. Besides the yards need it as well.
A tire came apart on the F250. Nothing got torn up and the warranty covered the replacement. It is the second one to do that out of the set so they replaced two and I bought two for 40% of retail, plus they gave me some credit for the old ones. They said they would rather do that then have to pay a life claim if something bad happened. All I can say is that is taking care of the customer. Yea it cost me a little but the tires were not new either so I feel like they were more than fair on the deal.
Spent the last several days with the kids. I had a great fathers day and I am blessed to have two great kids. And my sweet wife of coarse.

Went to a cruise-in tonight. It rained at the location for 15 minutes, just before I got there. Not a drop on the Cobra.
Terrible first half, huh Ron and Joe. Lets see if the Fakers can come back from 23 points down at half time.
My hands are numb from all the clapping.
Go CELTS
Steve - what tire brand? Firestones? I've bought nothing but Michelin for 25+ years on my daily drivers.

The Correct Way To Come Home Drunk!.......
Two married buddies are out drinking one night,
when one turns to the other and says, 'You know,
I don't know what else to do.
Whenever I go home after we've been out drinking, I
turn the headlights off before I get to the driveway. I shut
off the engine and coast into the garage. Take my shoes
off before I go into the house, I sneak up the stairs,
get undressed in the bathroom, stick my foot in the toilet and
pee down my leg to prevent splashing sounds. I ease
into bed and my wife STILL Wakes Up, and Yells at me for
staying out so late!
'His buddy looks at him and says 'Well, you're
obviously taking the wrong approach. I screech into
the driveway, slam the door, storm up the steps,
pee hard into the toilet water, then use the full flush,
throw my shoes in the closet, undress in the bedroom,
then jump into bed, slap her on the butt and say!, WHO'S HORNY????!!!'
and she acts like she's sound asleep

Just about every game they won was a blowout. It was clear from the first game the Celtics were the best team and their regular season record backs that up. Oh well, now I can look forward to the Red Sox collapse after playing well for most of the season.

Joe,
How is everything there today? I didn't see much on our news about the weather. Hope everything cleared up and no major damage.

Warren,
They are BF Goodrich. I have always used the same tire since I was a kid. The very first set of tires I ever bought was BFG. I have always had good luck with BFG. I have also always got good service out of them and they last a long time.
This particular set had no problems until recently so I can't complain at all. If I remember correctly BFG is now owned my Michelin.
Ron,
The weather is great here this morning. Bright Blue skies. It was amazing that after the storm yesterday the temp dropped to 68* it was about a 30* temp drop in 30 minutes. So it made for a pleasant evening out on the patio.

Steve,
That is good to hear. I was just reading an article about the flooding may now be moving into some areas of Missouri. But if the rains stop, I believe they said the river should crest in another day or so. What I did find strange that after the 1993 flood I believe it was, the Govt. bought out some of the small towns and the people moved to another place, except in one town a few refused to leave. They now have a few feet of water in their houses. Any bets as to whether they sue the Govt. when this is over?

Most likely they will. Everyone seems to want it both ways. As Steve said, it is nice so far today, but the weather forcast last night was the same as the night before, so we will see as the day goes on. It is supposed to get hot and humid for the weekend though.
