Some of the more dangerous fires close to me. Note the name of one of them just West of Redding. These are only a few of the over 100 burning right now and some have expanded overnight and they are having to move fire fighters to them to try and save some of the small towns around this area.

Wildfire threatens 500 homes in Big Sur, Calif.
By AMANDA FEHD, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 53 minutes ago
BERKELEY, Calif. - A lightning-sparked wildfire in the Los Padres National Forest that already burned 16 homes was moving closer Thursday to the scenic community of Big Sur, where it threatened 500 houses.
The blaze was only 3 percent contained late Wednesday and had burned nearly 30 square miles near the coast about a mile south of Big Sur, officials said.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service predicted more lightning toward the end of the week, although forecasters did not expect as severe an electrical storm as last weekend, when nearly 8,000 lightning strikes sparked about 800 fires across Northern California.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited Monterey County on Wednesday to assess the damage and said he has called in the National Guard to help fight the fires.
"The fact is that when you have that many fires — and there are still 700 fires left all over the state of California — you get stretched thin with the resources," Schwarzenegger said.
The state's largest blaze, located about 20 miles east of the Big Sur fire in a more remote area of the Los Padres forest, also continued to vex firefighters, having scorched more than 92 square miles and destroyed two homes. The blaze, sparked by a campfire on June 8, was 71 percent contained.
Monterey sheriff's officials said mandatory evacuation orders were in place for both fires, but they could not specify how many people were forced from their homes.
The governor also stopped Wednesday in Butte County, where 27 lightning-sparked fires covering about 8 square miles were threatening 1,000 homes. The blazes, which were only 5 percent contained, cropped up just as the county was recovering from a fire that charred 74 homes and 36 square miles earlier this month.
Fire crews from Nevada and Oregon have arrived to help California firefighters battle the blazes darkening skies over the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Valley, causing public health officials to issue air-quality warnings.
Areas hit the hardest by the lightning storm also included Mendocino County, where 131 fires have burned more than 20 square miles and threatened about 500 homes, and the Shasta-Trinity Forest, where more than 150 fires have burned about 15 1/2 square miles and threatened 200 homes.
Several blazes also were burning in New Mexico, where a fire in thick trees in the Manzano Mountains led officials Wednesday to urge hundreds of people to leave their homes in and near Tajique, about 30 miles southeast of Albuquerque. About four dozen homes in the area burned in a wildfire last month.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson declared a disaster in Torrance County, where fire has charred an estimated 1,700 to 2,000 acres in the mountains.

Ron,
How far is this from you?

Fred & Steve,
The fires on the map that I attached above are within 5 to 30 miles of me. There are others that are smaller and one was about 2 miles from here when they got it out. So far this morning the smoke seems to be thinner than it has been for days, so I hope maybe some of it will move out of the valley. It is not only hard on people but also the animals and a mountain lion came down over by the dam the other night as they are running from the fires. I just hope the predicted lightning and thunderstorms for tonight and tomorrow in the mountains around here don't happen. We don't need another 100 fires.

Ron,
I saw this morning that they were predicting the lightning to come back. Hope it stays away from you. You just need a good, steady moderate rain to last about a week, a few days to dry out so you can mow and then return. Fill that dam back up.

Joe,
My utility bill had a letter in it that they want us to go on volunteer water rationing and they may have to make it mandatory. I to hope they are wrong about the lightning storms that are supposed to hit the mountains tonight and tomorrow.
We need a lot of that water that is flooding things back along the Mississippi to fill up the lake and other places around here. Some tows that don't get their water from the lake have already ran out.

You all run too much information on this thread...I have to read for several minutes before I understand some of the gibberish.
Steve, I do not get GMW. What is up with that?
Joe, don't encourage him.
Warren, you are slipping, you forgot our "ever attached" camera.
Ron, thanks for the info, I am not sure I need to do something with that, but I notice Steve has the same information.
Fred, in light of recent pictures, you may want to stop golfing for a while...until the problem has been handled.
Well folks, I have not seen any posts from HLC since the Bernie in Dallas incident. I found out a new rule when using the log splitter..."never stand next to the RAM area while in operation."
I am avoiding the CObra for a while...too much poop to take care of before winter.

It wasn't me, I swear. I am completely innocent. It was the 1 armed man.
What did I do now?

On another note, I will be glad when this year is over. That way we can end the sudden rush of political talk and talk about the important things like what is for dinner, and I saw 2 really hot women at lunch today.

Tru,
You are going to have to get a book on Internet slang or abbreviations. GMW is Steve and Warren's way of not having to learn to spell.
Joe,
You had two really hot women for dinner? Darn, you Texans will eat anything won't you.
As for the snake on the golf course, I was watching one of the major tournaments last year and they had to wait while the ground crew got an alligator off one of the greens. And he wasn't all that happy about leaving either.

Good Morning World
Tru,
Try a little Harder to keep up, eh!
Joe,
What did you kill now? I am almost afraid to ask. I hope it isn't your foot again. Just before "Veekashun"
Fred,
I like the new exercise program. When does the next class start?
I am so happy about the ruling today on firearms. I need to get me a hip holster.... No not really.
Funny story:
When I went to Florida, I was in a meeting with the execs and they said they had a question on what was potentially a touchy subject and asked if they could ask it anyway. I said sure, ask away.
Well it seems they had heard that "All Texans carry guns" and was wondering if I did. I said "of coarse".
Then they asked if "I carried one in my truck."
I said "yes, in fact I carry more than one".
"Why, would you need more than one."
I said "well, I have a big truck and it is a long way around to the other side should I need it in a hurry and be on the wrong side of the truck. So I have one I can get to from either side."
Complete silence.
"Well, would you please not carry it on our property, we have a "new" policy about that."

My ankle is doing well. Just a little sore.
Fred, good idea on the exercise program.
Ron, I figured in California you would be accustomed to 2 girls for dinner. The ugliest girl in Cali is a 10 right?

Joe,
BB looks good compared to some of the girls I have seen here. Of course all places have some great looking ones and some that aren't so great. They seem to get better looking the farther South you go. Toward Hollywood

GMA. Still extremely humid here. UGH But at least its not raining.
Yesterday I doubled the value of my daily driver. $64 to fill the gas tank. The day before yesterday, it was only $50 to fill the Cobra. Hey Ron, does Social Security have a COLA based upon gas prices?
