Ron,
I have never been to far from one since I was about 8 or 9 years old. I don't suspect that will change.
Here in Texas some of the old west antics die hard.

Got to love home schooling.

My children did the public schools and got credit in college for the AP classes they took.

I suppose there is an element of seperation between "MOM" and "TEACHER".

Yea, when they started they both thought it would be a breeze and they could mess around every day. HAhahahaha

The first day of school they were bath marked tardy and got sent to the principles office. That would be me. I made both of them do community service at the church for two days. They have not missed a beat since.

They are both in AP (Advanced Placement) classes and Our daughter is getting college credit for some of the classes she is taking now as well. She is taking Japanese as her foreign language and said it was not challenging enough, so she is now taking Chinese at the same time, just for the challenge.

Steve,

We have both Home Schooling and the public schools here also and I am becoming more and more a supporter of the Home Schooling if it is done correctly. For one thing, Redding is a small town but the violence and homicides are getting worse daily. And the schools are getting to the point they are ran by gangs in some instances and the teachers aren't allowed to punish or kick out the little darlings or mom and pop will run and sue them. When I first moved up here, if there was a break in or anything like that it was big news. Now they have so many murders and all types of violence that if you don't kill some politicians kid or some other VIP, it isn't even mentioned. One of the dopers across the street from me stabbed one of the others and tried to kill one of the women that live in that nest of vipers last week and he is already back walking around free. Some old man in a wheel chair was beat to death by a guy in his late 20s because he was bored and mad at his girlfriend. I swear this area is trying its best to mimic San Francisco. And the local Obama chapter wants to know why so many people are buying guns and taking the classes. It is really sad to watch an area that has so much to offer turn into a gang infested and dope ran mess.

Yea, It is amazing what public schools have become since I was in school. I am not saying that all public schools are bad but it isn't worth the risk. At least not for us.

I don't think we are over protecting our kids, I think they do need interaction with other kids and the home school program offers different types of activities. It is just that the school here is not very well rated at all and the gangs are running the show. Again, not in all of them but the ones that our children would be in are in very bad shape, and they have been for many years.

Our kids say the Pledge of Allegiance and the carriculum in faith based so I think they are better off than having to worry if they will be shot in the lunch room. Not to mention if they have the wrong color shirt on. Public schools are in bad shape all over this country, we just choose to do something about our childrens education.

I very firmly believe:
We only get one chance to raise our Children; If we screw that up, nothing we accomplish in life will have mattered. We have still failed.

I'm not so sure about mixing church and state.

Well, I am looking forward to taking a few days and sitting out by lake Superior and reading.

Just the sound of waves against the shore and the crackle of the camp fire.

Ron, hold down the fort, Barak or whatever his name is is going to save us.

Tru
Catch one and eat it for me. Just had a nice piece of grilled tuna. With corn on the cob and some wax beans.

I hope your not going to read that book with all the red marks in it. Have fun.

Sounds good Warren, I love some grilled tuna. Best I ever had was on the back of a commercial fishing boat. Tuna fillets rolled up, wrapped with bacon, held together with a toothpick. Thrown on the grill with no other seasonings and cooked till done. So good.

Edit to add: I just had a pretty good steak at a steakhouse here on the south east side of Tulsa. Place called Bluestone. Really good price, a lot lower than you would expect for the quality of the steak.

Suggested meal for Tru's first meal at camp:

1. Grilled Tuna.
2. Catfish Steak
3. Possum Slices
4. Rattle Snake for flavor.
5. Mix together and add ketchup and mustard and eat hearty. Don't forget to let us know which hospital they take you to.

Darn, the wind is blowing hard here this morning and did all night. But at least the last traces of smoke are now on their way elsewhere. The tarp that I Rube Goldberged up against the back wall of my house to shade the bedroom wall and window is just being torn to shreds. I just got a cheap one as it was just to block the sun, so that isn't a problem. I am going to have to try and figure a way to put one up that will not be torn to shreds by the wind and that is easy to take down during the Winter. Amazing at how much difference in the room temperature just having that sun blocked from shining on the wall and window all day makes.

Plant some fast growing trees, and/or add some window awnings. Of course, you could always move to a cooler place like Death Valley.

Most of the TV I have watched the past week or so has been the Little League World Series. I watch as much of that every year as I can as I love to see those kids play. And congratulations to Hawaii for winning it all. They really came through with that 6 run rally in the 6th inning of the semi final game when a lot of people had already left and turned it off as they figured the game was over.
I watch very little of the political stuff as I am just tired of it. I think they have started this campaign far to early and I am just burned out on all of the B.S. that is going out. I did see that Warren's pride and joy may make an appearance at the convention but don't know if he did.

I watched The Discovery Channel and the Animal Planet. I also did the dishes (two days worth) and washed some clothes. No time for the convention. There is absolutely nothing that Pelosi or Obama's wife said that would interest me.

But I did see McCain on Leno last night. He made a lot of good points and the crowd applauded very very loudly.

Who is on the convention tonight when I'm not watching?

Warren,

Did you watch the show on the History Channel about Air Force 1. They never showed a lot of it as it is secret, but that is some set up and I would sure hate to be some of the men that have to hand wax those two planes every time they fly. They were built in 1990 and have been kept upgraded with all the latest secret stuff. Interesting but I wish I had the money that just one of them cost.
