Been a busy couple of days for me. I am building a picnic table for the back yard instead of buying patio furniture. I have to finish the tompsons water seal today and then assemble it either later this evening or tomorrow morning as we are supposed to have a BBQ tomorrow. My wife let me know about that plan yesterday.

Glad to see that the two of you are going to put the long weekend to good use. I am not going to do anything but maybe watch some races.

GMA everyone
It rained here off and on all day yesterday. It was a pleasant break from the heat.
Today is hot and sunny.
Our Tomatoes are pooped out already. Not getting much now de to the heat. We even water as needed and feed them regularly. I guess we need to shade them from the heat. I wll try that today

Worlds Shortest Fairy Tale
Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl said, "NO!" And the guy lived happily ever after and went fishing and hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Bruised two ribs on the adventure.
The cool nights were great sleeping and being by The big lake made the entire trip nice.
Read a good book and found out that I do not want to slip into the "drag the trailer" to the park syndrome.
Well, I am back and tired.

TRU,
Welcome back and I am happy that you had a good time. Now you are all rested and ready to start shoveling the snow that will be coming your way soon if the weird weather continues. Or you could come out here and shovel dust.

Do we have any CC buddies in harms way from the hurricane? I know during Katrina we had several CC members get hit really hard.

I'm glad everyone likes my Fractured Fairy Tale
Tru - you are the only person I know that needs to take a "get well" vacation after a short vacation. You could always go for the "unemployment vacation". I was on that after I retired and got $512 a week for something like 35 weeks. Company set up my "early retirement" as a layoff, so I could collect. Not too bad for sitting back and doing nothing. Didn't even have to go anywhere ... it was all done thru the Internet.
Bruised ribs can be a real PITA. I cracked a rib about 5 years ago, and it hurt so much that I could not get into bed. Slept in a Lazy-Boy chair for a couple/three weeks. One thing that did help was wearing and old vest from a suit that was very tight. Prevented a lot of pain when I tried to take a deep breath, or laughed or God forbid ... sneezed.
Ron - forecast for next 6 days is sunny with hi temps between 75 and 82°F. I'll take it. I actually watered my garden yesterday. After the proverbial deluge of rain during July and the first half of August, we have not had any appreciable rain for the last few weeks. But the tomatoes taste great, and the cukes are the best I've grown in years.

Warren,
That sounds like great weather for driving and taking pictures. It is still supposed to be in the 105/110 range here through Tuesday. And the wind has let up so that helps.I felt as if I was back in Southern Calif. and living in the Santa Anna Winds for a few days there. As for watering they are asking people around here to cut back and even included a paper in my last utility bill suggesting all people have the new low flush toilets installed. I could buy a new car for what it would cost to have those installed.

I'm too full of you know what for a 5 gallon toilet, never mind a 1.5 gallon crapper.

What a fantastic day for a ride! Used 3/4 of a tank just driving around.

Warren,
Nice picture. The wind has been blowing so hard here yesterday and today that it is miserable. Not real hot but I think every piece of paper and junk from half the county is in my yard. My garbage can is full and they don't pick up today as it is a holiday. Darn, I don't care for this hard wind at all.

got home from st. louis last night, from my niece's wedding. Extremely hectic 4 days, and the highlight on the 10 o'clock news when......
my rented cadillac got sideswiped while innocently sitting at a red light by a stolen, old, white impala driven by two deranged dudes being chased in hot pursuit by a St. Louis Metropolitan Police unit after hitting another police unit. sheesh!
the impala jumped the curb and unfortunately hit me rather than the light pole. Darn. The pursuing officer did not hit me as he jumped the curb and they all blazed through the redlight almost hitting another vehicle making a left turn in front of us. sheeesh!
accident report in hand nearly an hour later, the girls and i were late to the bridesmaids luncheon i was hosting.
better late than never. also wore my new 'club cobra' tshirt so definitely didn't make the dress up part of it.
looks like everybody is ok back here. except tru who bruised ribs.
ok. still in my jammies and lots to do! ttyl!
K
ps. arrived at the wedding 15 minutes before 'game time' due to this incredible traffic problem relating to some dumb football game between missou and illini. or something like that. would match it in craziness to texas/ou weekend. ugh.
i had the father of the bride with me!!
Sat down with family at 4:55. all was well!
(after filling 200 communion cups between 4:47 and 4:54)

Wow, Kristen, it sounds as if just your drive in town was enough excitement. I am happy that none of your were injured. They probably decided it was better to let the idiots in the stolen car go than take any more chances on getting some innocent person hurt by them.

Okay folks, I have a few questions...just checking the info.
1. When your cell phone is in a questionable area, possibly out of zone, what do you check?
2. If you read the word suddenly in a story, do you expect something sudden?
So, HLC, that driving experience tops a lot of my mundane experiences. I'll have to get the details the next time I visit.
Good picture Warren, I see the building is in good form as well.
Okay, I hurt more from that blasted rib than I did getting slashed open by a knife. What is the best way to heal a bruised rib???

1. Check if there is a payphone near by.
2. No
Rib:
I've had more than 1/2 dozen broken ribs in my young life. After the first few,I quit going to Doctors about them. You just end poorer with no relief.
TIME is the answer. Don't lift anything over 10 lbs. for a month and take over the counter pain relievers.
There is 2 schools of taught on wrapping up yours ribs.Do it and don't bother.
I found that it helps to wrap them at night when you attempt to sleep.
