I read a post on another site where the guy was going to Idaho I believe it was to spend the Winter with his daughter because of the cost of heating oil and the long cold Winter they have said they will have in the New England states. Better send the Ho sisters along with BB.

After this coming Winter he will be wearing short sleeve shirts on days that it gets all the way up to 56°. Kind of like on the TV series Ice Road Truckers where they were wearing light shirts when it got up to just 32 below.

I can see that. 32 below will become his new 56.
I think BB is rethinking this. She is just a Southern Ho at heart, not part Eskimo.

Steve, we are discussing the long and cold a$$ winter Massachusetts is going to have.
56 is not cold. -20 is cold. 56 is good outside weather.
Guys, we are looking at a winter that will challenge many people in this country. Wood is a key element. Burning wood may save many people from a frozen house and very high fuel bills. I will be stocking the wood barn with even more fuel over the next few weeks in preparation.

BB would be a good alternative to an electric blanket, but what a hazard. If she rolls over, I'd suffocate.
Just did some more dishes last night. Thats my job. Washing dishes.
Time to convert to all paper and plastic. I just tired of washing dishes. I have a dishwasher machine, but by the time I fill it to a full load, I've run out of some clean items. Spaghetti and meatballs on a paper plate? Ugh.
Its noontime and the temperature is up to a balmy 47°F outside. At least the sun is shining and heating up the back porch. I turned on the fan downstairs and the temp went from 63 to 68 in about 30 minutes. Love that solar heat. I have not turned on the heat yet ... but its getting close.
Just gave turtle his last coat of varnish. Tru - I left his bottom alone this time. By the time the Humpin Ho sisters get here and see him, the shine on his shell will blind them ... although they must be at least partially blind now to be living with Fred and BB.
Ron - I do have oil heat, but I've done a lot in the last 10 years to drastically reduce my heating bill ... like vinyl siding with 3/4 inch foam underneath, double pane windows with combo storm windows, 36 inches of insulation on attic floor, insulated the cellar ceiling, new heating system with two zones and a super insulated hot water tank.
Ten years ago, I used approx 900 gallons per year at about $0.90 a gallon which is about $800 a year. My average for the last two years has been about 500 gallons a year, but the costs have been about $1400 yearly with the increase in prices. Thankfully, the cost of crude has been on a free-fall lately, and that will keep the cost way down.
Steve - enjoy the good weather while you can. In a few short months it will be 100°F with 98% humidity and you can watch the little dials on your electric meter spin at 247 MPH as the AC is on full blast. By then, Joe should be on his third AC unit. Hey Joe - is dry ice an option?

Warren,
You did a lot of the same things I did to save on utility bills. When I built my house in 1976 I had double insulation put in the walls and attic, and even the garage. I have double pane windows and the sliding glass door is filled with argon gas. Then I have the vinyl siding with 3/4th inch insulation under it. Also I had my old hot water heater replaced a few years ago with a new one that is supposed to use less power and is better insulated. My house is all electric, and even on our coldest or hottest days, my electric bill isn't any more than my friends electric and gas bill when he adds them together. My house is a pier and beam type with crawl space under it so I have a dead air insulation there and the one record cold Winter we had here many years ago, I was the only house in this area that had running water as all the others had pipes freeze and then they burst. But as they keep increasing the rates on everything I have about reached the point of it not being feasible for me to spend more to try to save a few cents.
Ron

Warren,
247 MPH, shoot that would only be in first gear. They have had to retool the meters with TKO's to get them to calculate without burning up so fast.
The meter turns so fast the outside wall shakes.
I have heard the winter will be long and cold. DUH......
Tru,
You are a very smart guy for stocking up now.

The college students are coming over tomorrow to get wood and cut wood. They want two full trucks in exchange for all the cutting they will be doing.
Not sure how many are coming, but my wife and I are making a double batch of Venison chili to feed the crew.
I am thinking five trees.
Ron, good call on the house. That double insulation was probably looked down as stupid way back then, but you are the one smiling as your neighbors are paying big time.
U of M is putting up a fight, but I do not think they are going to pull it off.

So you will be sitting in a lawn chair eating chili and pointing at which tree to cut ? Sounds more like Warren.

Supervising is hard work and requires a lawn chair and something to drink. However it may be getting to cool there to really enjoy sitting in a lawn chair and drinking cold drinks. I heard a rumor that Warren has ordered a truck load of hot chocolate.

No, its not U of Mississippi ... its U of Mass. I heard that the U of Michigan football team was so bad it was disbanded.
The students would have an easy time in my yard. I have ONE tree, and its an ornamental Japanese maple that I keep to about 7 feet tall.
At 7 AM its a balmy 39°F here so send all the students you don't need.
Boy, was that corned beef good. I have about weeks worth of leftovers if I do not pig out (oink, oink).
How bout dem Red Sox! Go Sox.
Hey Tru - do they allow wood stoves in the dorm rooms, or is the wood for a big bonfire?

I hardly ever have hot chocolate, but when I do, its Swiss Miss. That brand is very good. Time for breakfast and some hot coffee. How about a corned beef omelet? Sounds good to me.
Just spent 3 hours fixing my Quicken. It was off by a couple hundred dollars during last months reconcile. Somehow the software deleted 2 payments in 2004 and one payment in 2002. Very strange, but at least my Quicken account agrees with the paper bank statement.
There is a big Halloween car show today about 20 miles away. Lets see ... its 39°F now and forecast is for cloudy skies with high of about 52°F this afternoon. Think I may just skip this show.
Hey - just noticed "alien Fred". That is incorrect ... it should be "Non-citizen Fred, only with Texas DMV".

Warren,
I much prefer hot chocolate. I don't drink coffee at all. And I eat every kind of junk food known to mankind. But with the way prices are going up at the stores around here, and with more closing so there is less competition, I may have to change my eating habits.
The Redding Walmart is building into a Super Store now. They have one in Anderson which is about 15 miles farther down the highway but I have never been to it. I like the Redding location as Target, COSTCO, Wyn Ko, Walmart, and a couple of others are easy to get to all all located in the same two block area. Plus my vet is across the street behind COSTCO. Traffic is heavy, but not hard to get on and off the highway. It is far worse with the fools speeding through the big parking lots and running the stop signs. I think they average a wreck or so a day in those parking lots.

Strange Ron, really strange.
As I predicted, they did not pull it off.
The wings won in OT with a pretty goal from Hossa.
It is great having my son home. Now I have to go back to the grocery store...he eats enough for two or three people. And, there is no such thing as 'left-overs'.
The area is covered with leaves. You can hear gun shots and geese honking as the pungent odor of burning leaves fills the air. Fall has arrived and shortly will move on to make way for winter.
Dang it is chilly outside.

I thought he was dead. Hossa Cartwright from Bonanza, right?
Chilly? Its all the way up to 42°F here. I broke down and turn on the heat for the first time this season.
You just do not cook enough to allow for leftovers. When I cook something really good, I always make extra and freeze the leftovers using the vacuum bags.
Burning leaves? Having an open fire around these parts is illegal without a permit from the Fire Chief, and the permit is for only ONE day. But the city picks up all leaves and yard waste (no charge) that you bundle in paper bags. They have big compost bins at the DPW yard and sell the compost to contractors.

You are correct Ron. I am the " PUMP KING" as you mentioned. Just ask the Humpin Ho Sisters. When the PUMP KING is finished, they are very stimulated.
I have a pumpkin carving set, and usually do one and put it on the front porch with a small flashlight inside along with aluminum foil for better reflections at night. You would be amazed at all of the templates on the INTERNET for carving pumpkins.
