Warren, we had a cold front come through yesterday and the weather said it ws 36° here this morning as well. It is up to the mid 60s here now though.

Now, at 9 PM, its about 35°F outside. Guess I can kiss all of the green tomatoes on the vine a final bye-bye. First frost tonight for sure if you are further than a mile from the ocean. I'm only about 300 yds away, so the ocean acts like a big heat reservoir, and it might not get below freezing, but I would not bet on it.

Just got back from dinner party. Had some clam chowder and a fantastic filet mignon steak, cooked exactly the way I like it. It just about melted in my mouth. Ummmmmmm good. I'm full.

Mike,

Are you sure he never saw Fred instead of a real Dentist? I had a really bad tooth about a year ago and I wanted it out and finally had to tell my dentist if he wouldn't pull it I would go to one that would. He believes that every tooth can be saved as long as there is a trace of it still left. And at a very high price I might add. I have more invested in my teeth than in my house.

Good Morning World.

It was a balmy 34°F per the Weather Channel at 7AM, but their temp is recorded about 4 miles inland. My accurate temp indicator (costs about $400) says the temp here was 37°F at 7 AM.

No, I did not pay $400. It was from my prior life when I worked for a living.

I used it as a test bed instrument to check out various configuration software. Accurate to 0.1% of reading.

Got to harvest onions and till the garden between the snow flakes.

I think we are going to paint this weekend.

Do any of you have a recirculating hot water pump? Is it on a timer? Thermometer? On all the time?

Just wondering.

Not sure what I am supposed to dance about.

My beachhouse has one.It's on all the time.

My Dad has one at his home.It's on all the time.

In both cases,it saves a whole lot of water and the energy to heat that water AND a heck of a lot of time waiting naked in a cold shower.
I think that's where the dancin' comes in.

I do not have a recirculating pump so I have to wait 12 seconds before I step into the shower spray. House was built in 1924.

Tru,
We have had them in the past in three different homes. They are great. You turn on the hot water anywhere in the house and you get hot water right then, no waiting.

Yep, all on timers. The temp is set at the water heater itself as you normally would.

Yes, they run most all the time, they do stop when the timer is set for them to be off. However, if you set the timer say ten minutes before you normally get up in the morning you have hot water at the faucets.

You have to remember the pumps are really small and will use very little energy. There is no resistance in the system. It flows freely around in loops back to the water heater.

These systems are sometimes very difficult to retrofit into existing homes unless you have a crawlspace under the house, or some other means to access every faucet you want in the system. There has to be a supply line and a return line in one big loop from one faucet to another all over the house in one big loop system. I have retrofitted many homes in the past. It is a job but it can be done to work right.

This system is one of the best systems we enjoyed as far as adding things to the house we built for ourselves. Sure there are other things but this one is very nice.

Another very easy add is an "insta hot". Which is a instant hot water faucet that you mount in the kitchen sink in an extra hole in the sink. Turn it on and you have instant hot water 190* great for soups, and coffee, hot chocolate ETC...

It all really depends on the size of your house.

If you are like Warren and only have to wait 12 seconds once a week for hot water in the shower,I'd pass.

My beachhouse is 2 levels with 7k sq. ft...it takes forever for the hot water to reach the upper far shower,without the pump on.

Wrong again oh exalted one. Once a year, whether I need it or not. If it was OK in the Dark Ages, its OK by me. Just ask Ron ... he instituted that cleanliness policy back when he was King of England in the seventh century.

A lot of people are installing those small gas powered water heaters that only heat up a couple of gallons of water. They only turn on when you open the hot water faucet and they say it will supply an unlimited amount of hot water, even for a big family.

I have to wait about 15 seconds for the hot water to get to the farthest point from my hot water heater. However my whole house is about the size of one of Fred's bathrooms.

When we started the cleanliness policy it was once a month and in a cold river. No such thing as a house or plumbing back then. That came with the young generation.

Steve, there was one I found that maintained the temperature above a certain point. It has a probe you clamp on the pipe. As I understand it, the pump only comes on when the temp drops below 93 degree F.

I have plumbing for it, but have not install it yet.

You will not regret the benefits.

There are also timers you can get for the pump itself. So it isn't running while you are sleeping. No reason for it to be on, right?

They work great, if installed properly. Depending on the wait for hot water the energy they use is less than the wasted water. I forget who actually performed the survey but it has been looked at from an economics point as well.

Installing the loops is the most difficult part, and I would think for you, it wouldn't be that hard to do it yourself.

GMW,

Darn I am sleepy. It isn't bad here this morning, around 57 degrees and supposed to be 88 this afternoon. It was in the upper 80s yesterday and I had to run the air conditioner a little. Also suppose to top out at 89 tomorrow. Winter is definitely here.
I need to go to the store this morning and that is my 2nd disliked thing. Next to going to the dentist I hate having to go to the store for anything.

Hey, I went for a ride yesterday. Its 52°F here. A few more degrees and Tru and I will be going swimming.

I don't remember anybody saying y'all are 'normal'.

Josh bought a fuel filter and a quick release tool to release the clamps. Wants me to start teaching him about home mechanics.
More than happy to pass on tips.

It's be running a little rough at times,we'll see if we can run it down.It's an Explorer with about 100k miles.I suspect plug wires,maybe could use some injector cleaner too.

I have to agree with Fred. Who on here said that you two are normal?

Fred, it is nice that Josh is wanting to learn about the car. And nice that you have one that isn't so full of computers and crap that some things can be done at home. I had a couple of those hose clamps that were put on at the factory where I couldn't get the quick release tool on them and had to cut the darn hoses, so I went down and bought all new screw on types that I could use a nut driver to tighten and then I just turned them so the nut was in an easy place to get to. I used the type that is a long string of slots and you can open them up a lot to make it easy to get them over braided hoses.
