GMW

28°F outside and supposed to snow tonight Its been over a week without a Cobra ride and I'm getting cabin fever.

Yeah - its Saturday. When you are retired, there are still 7 days in the week ... six Saturdays and one Sunday!

Warren,

It hit 70 here yesterday but is supposed to rain this afternoon and tomorrow. Right now it is in the low 50s and sunny. If we didn't need the rain so bad I would wish it stayed warm and nice as I am sure that next Summer is going to be bad.

Having a sister that is a CPA and owns her own accounting firm is a blessing. Have not done my taxes in 30+ years and always get a big refund.

Life is good ... its just the DJIA that sucks.

Have 3 nice big pieces of beef corning on the back porch. Been there for 4 days. Corned beef dinner tomorrow. Yuuuuummmmmmm. Then I have to suffer thru many left over meals, corned beef hash for breakfast and grilled corned beef and cheese sandwiches for lunch. I'm getting hungry already.

Taxes are only temporary anyway. Some day in the far distant future and in a far distant galaxy you will not have to pay them at all.

Warren,

Here is a picture of my Lionel Polar Express engine. Wish I still had it and all of the cars and set up that I had with it. I had alot of extra track that I bought and added on and more cars such as the belly dumps, log cars that would dump their logs, grain cars with the little loaders that would load them and so forth. The coach cars shown I only had one or two of. Also had the little hand cars that had two men on them pumping the handles. Andsome bridgesas I had mine set up so it went up a long grade and then had bridges over some canyons.

GMW
Hey, its above freezing!
Time for breakfast. It tough when you wake up at the crack of 9:30 AM.

One of these days I'm going to buy a couple thousand $$ worth of model trains and convert one of my spare bedrooms into a model railroad heaven.

Well it is raining here now and supposed to rain for the next two days. As for the train picture above, I got that off their present web site, but it is like the engine that I had and liked the most. I wish I had the room to build a real layout like a guy that passed away a few years ago did. The model magazines used to come up here and do write up-s along with the pictures of his layout and when he passed away I think his wife sold it for something around the $20K neighborhood. He had close to 1 mile of track and slot cars and cities all right down to the last detail. That was the most elaborate and fun railroad layout I have ever seen.

Darn Steve,

You must have had a great weekend if it is going to take a new thread to tell us about it. Don't wait to long. The suspense is terrible. But I am happy that it was good for you.

It takes my CPA sister about 45 minutes to do both Fed & State return on the computer. I spend about 1 hour assembling all the paperwork before-hand.

Then I take her and her husband out to supper for her fee. We do go to some fancy restaurants, but it is well worth it.

Fred - Turtle said he'd do your taxes. Just send up the Ho' sisters as payment. Turtle swears no biting this time.

Ron - nice train picture. Lionel are like Chevy's. American Flyer was the Cadillac/Dusenberg of the model trains. That's why the stuff is so damn expensive.

Just getting my personal paperwork together and compiled for my CPA is pretty quick too. With quarterly taxes it is kept in good order.

My pain in the ass is the other 12 returns I also deal with.

Ron, that is a nice picture of a 284.

I consulted for Lionel a few years ago on some electronics.

They were looking at having the locomotive start up and stop more like a real lococmotive. It was an interesting project. My role was about 8 hours of yes and no questions.

Well, we are suppose to get snow for four days ( off and on ) at the end of the week.

I am not gone yet. There are managers that want to keep me...I think.

Tru,

That is good news that some of the managers want to keep you. I hope they prevail.

As for the trains there was a man that worked for the phone company out here way back up in the mountains near Portola and people kept calling me and telling me what a master machinist he was. One day when I was up that way working on a problem I saw him and we got to talking. When he learned that I liked model trains he said he had one he would like to show me and he had made everything for it including the track, I have never before or since seen such a work of art. The 2-8-4 was exactly to scale and it ran on steam. He had built a small water tower and in the firebox someway he had fixed it so the fire was the propane lighter fluid. They tracks were real looking as they had much flatter tops on the rails than the ones that I had. His old time coach cars had the toilets with the water tank high up for gravity fed and they would actually flush and go out on the ground just like the real ones did. And He had built every piece of that train himself. I never saw him again but I will never forget that workmanship and the talent it took to do what he had done.

Warren,

I saw your Governor on the news yesterday and he was trying to justify the big gas tax increase he wants. Since I don't drink coffee I have no idea what it costs but I can't believe what he said unless a large cup of coffee back there costs a fortune. He said that the new taxes would cost no person any more than a large cup of coffee would. Maybe he meant for every gallon of gas that you buy.

Ron
The Gov wants to tax everything. Gas (0.25 per gallon increase), candy, cigarettes (even more), and unbelievable big increases in road tolls and public transportation (subway/bus).

Of course, Obama and our Gov Patrick are kissing cousins. After seeing all of Deval's campaign promises (of which he has not even kept ONE) repeated by Obama, it especially made my stomach queasy. So far, Obama has been true to form, but we have not slipped of the edge of the earth yet.

Hey Fred
Check out US News & World Reports. Article about the top 10 best cities to live for "single seniors". Number 6 was my hometown - Quincy MA. I bet the reporters were in town the couple of weeks that the Ho sisters and Turtle were gallivanting all over town.

Tru - good news so far. Keep that stiff upper lip mate!
