Warren,

Your taxes there are as bad or worse than ours here are. I am not sure just what all they increased in this last budget, but they did increase the sakes tax and state income tax. Boy, am I happy that all of the income taxes are just temporary.

Warren, are these other twelve identities for the ladies? You know, sooner or later one of them is going to catch up with you and then there will be "sparks".

Ron, I would like to ask what size the trains were. Were they really small like HO or N? I can not imagine someone doing that kind of detail in N.

Well kids, it is chilli enough to have to weaar a coat and gloves to work. All of 1 degree at the farm.

Tru,

If you are referring to the trains that guy made, they were in the same size as the old electric trains used to be which was quite a bit larger that the Ho and other size. I remember I had one that you had to stick a key into the side of the engine and wind it up. Sure wish I still had that one.
Then at Arden Fair in Sacramento they used to have a model show every year and they had a big hobby shop there. The winner one year was the most realistic battle scene I have ever scene and that person made everything with his own machine shop.I remember a big German Tiger tank coming over a slight rise in the ground sand there were bodies and parts of bodies with blood on the tracks and there were bodies and blood all over the big battle field he had made. Blown up artillery pieces, crashed planes and everything your would expect at a big World War 11 Battle. I talked to him and he had an electric motor in the tank that he could run by remote and it would fire shells that were made of plastic. I used to go to that place a lot as there were some of the most incredible models of everything you could think of there and they all had to be at least 80% hand made. I marvel at the skill and patience of the people who used to display their work there.

Ron, there are people that have a life of work and their single hobby.

Remember that guy that made the exact model of the ferrari?

It was for sale for a while...I never did find out of he sold it.

I saw the video of him running the engine and working the shifter. It was impressive.

I have always liked building models. I got bored with kits years ago and this train layout is the first of it's kind that I have begun. I know that I am just buying parts and pieces and not actually building most of it, but I figure that will come. Either later on this one or maybe a future project. I really enjoy seeing the models that are built completely from scratch. It is really fun to dissect the details

Joe,

You are designing the layout you want and you can add different curves and track later as you get more into it. To do what the ones above that I was talking about requires a machine shop as they drew out what they wanted and then set about making it from scratch. I could never in my best day begin to duplicate the models of trains and tanks and such that I used to see at that fair in Sacramento. And one huge B-29 Bomber that amazed me. It took 4 people to carry it and the remote control panel looked like the cockpit of a 747. But he took it out and flew it and he could drop bombs, fire the guns and make the turrets turn and everything.

I saw a B2 like that in San Diego. Pretty sweet RC setup. This layout is the most build I have ever done in creating a model, but it is fun. My next steps that I want to do require saving a little money up to purchase electronic components, but I will be automating the crossings. As the train approaches the crossing, it will activate the crossing lights and bells. When it is past, it will stop. I am purchasing some of the electronics, but I am building the control panels and the junction panels with the latch circuits (I am using 1 sound board for the bells on all 3 intersections, with a digital latch to isolate out the 4 different start signals). That part of the circuit will be all mine. I am also wiring in sound for other parts of the layout as well (farm sounds, train yard sounds, etc...). My intention is to modify the sound boards and have the power and volume controls remotely mounted in my drawer next to the other controls.

The year I retired, my combined taxes (state, fed and city) dropped $23K. Probably the best part of retirement ... get your stinkin hands off my money!

Not me - its Alien Fred that has the 12 identities. I turned him into ICE today and they gave me a reward of $1.83. But they sent me a bill for $27K for all of the groin injuries the Humpin Ho sisters inflicted on the federal officers.

GMW
Did anyone watch the Pres last night? I missed it (intentionally).

But I did have a dream last night ... the DJIA dropped 700 points! I hope the markets respond the other way to O'Drama's speech.

I was up all night with Sweetheart and have to get her into the vet as soon as I can. Something happened to her Saturday and it has progressively gotten worse until now she just cries and won't hardly let me touch her. And it seems to be in the right rear area more than anywhere but when I touched her stomach just very lightly she cried like all get out. What I don't understand it this all started Saturday afternoon and she and Frenchy had played most of the day as it was nice. Now she will hardly walk and when she does she just make short runs and sits down with her right side next to the wall. She won't even try to lay down and when I tried to lay her down she started fighting me. So after two nights of being up with her all night and spending the days in the bathroom, I am about to the end of my strength. Normally she would be in here right now standing on her hind legs and scratching my leg wanting me to pick her up. But she is hidden in one of the bedrooms and if I start toward her she gets up and moves away.

Fred,

As soon as they find anything I will let you know. I haven't been able to drive since last week so he will have to send one of the girls out to get her again. Of course we had sun yesterday and this morning it is raining pretty hard. I am about ready to get rid of my cars and try doing something else. So far in the past 8 months I have driven the Comet 687 miles and it is my daily driver. Some times it sets for days without being started.

Do let us know.

I think you would regret selling your cars,PERIOD.

Walking isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Fred,

By the time I get my knee brace, ankle braces, and thigh brace on, I have to walk as I can't bend the leg to run. I will keep one car for an emergency, and who knows, in another week I may suddenly snap out of this like I have in the past, but each time it gets easier to have them and takes longer to get out of them. I was trying to fight the depression today and it is raining so I decided to mow anyway. Now I need a shovel to dig the mower out.

It has been raining off and on here today. And it is cool. We had the hardest downpour two nights ago for about 20 minutes that we have had for years. But once this ends and the sun comes out I will need an axe to cut my weeds in the yards. Any of you Texas people want some free trees?
