Good you didn't loose power Steve. We did a couple of times. One was because lightening hit the power lines, so there is nothing the power company could do about it. Only out for a few moments each time though.

Well it is still cloudy and overcast and we are supposed to have more rain today and tomorrow. Hope that it holds off until I get in and have my eye doctors appointment over with. We had some thunder and a couple of really hard downpours that lasted abut 10 minutes last night. One of them was so hard it blocked the satellite signal for a few minutes.

Morning everyone.

Been busy this morning already.

Mowed, trimmed, edged, spread the last application of weed killer and fertilizer. The yard sure looks good.

I could not do it this weekend since it was raining and sopping wet. It is still wet enough that the ground gives when I step on it. But we sure need the water.

I see Josh is back posting again.
I think I saw he is in Afghanistan this time.

Back from the doctors. I have had a minor stroke and it has damaged the optic nerves to my eyes, and I also have cataracts starting to form. Two years ago the cataract surgery was about $1500 per eye. Now it is over $3400 per eye. That I could handle but noothing can be done for the stroke damage. My eye doctor is going to call me later and go over some options but I looked at the eye pictures of the optic nerve and it has a pretty big piece of the nerve that is dead and frayed. So if it gets worse I will soon be blind and my options are, guide dog, cane, or gun. The nerves caused the stroke of all things. I have to go back in 6 months for him to take more pictures and see if the damage is going to stay at this size or if it is going to expand. Also my working in the yard in the sun is going to be really curtailed as if I have a heat stroke he said that would definitely finish it off.

I was sucessful in pulling both of the heads.

Will be getting those over to the NASCAR shop for work.

I did a lot of stuff over the weekend. I see you all did the same.

Two weeks until the holiday!!!

Not much I can do at this point except try to keep the stress down as much as possible. The stroke happened a couple of months ago as near as I can figure and so far my eyes have stayed about the same. Not good, but I can still see. I will know more about that in 6 months when I go back for more tests. I don't know what I am going to do about keeping the place mowed as I can't stay out in the sun for very long due to heat stroke and that would definitely finish off my eyes. But I will figure out something.

Yea Ron, You need to slow down a bit and take it easy. From what I hear though things start falling apart at about 2,800 ears old. Is that about right?

Maybe you should get your little pups into training. From what I hear, dogs can sense a stroke coming on and warn you in advance. It mght be something to think about. Of course I have no idea what the training cost.

Take it easy for awhile.....

We have had more rain in the past three days and nights than we had during the 4 months of our Rainy season. It is still raining lightly this morning but the forecast is for it to quit later today and then the sun will be back tomorrow and most likely we will go right into the 100+ stuff. All of this rain will really increase the fire danger as it will just make the underbrush grow that much thicker and faster and it will be tinder dry in two days once the sun comes out.
As for taking it easy, I fear my days of working in the yard for any length of time, especially when it is hot are over.

Not sure about the accuracy of this as I just don't feel like loking it up on Snopes or any of the other myth buster sites. But a good read anyway.

This from history buff Col D. G. Swinford, USMC, Ret.

You have to dig deep for facts like these:

1. The first German serviceman killed in WW II was killed by the Japanese ( China , 1937), the first American serviceman killed was killed by the Russians ( Finland 1940); highest ranking American killed was Lt Gen Lesley McNair, killed by the US Army Air Corps. So much for allies.

2. The youngest US serviceman was 12 year old Calvin Graham, USN. He was wounded and given a Dishonorable Discharge for lying about his age. His benefits were later restored by act of Congress.

3. At the time of Pearl Harbor , the top US Navy command was called CINCUS (pronounced "sink us"), the shoulder patch of the US Army's 45th Infantry division was the Swastika, and Hitler's private train was named "Amerika." All three were soon changed for PR purposes.!

4. More US servicemen died in the Air Corps than the Marine Corps. While completing the required 30 missions, your chance of being killed was 71%.

5. Generally speaking, there was no such thing as an average fighter pilot. You were either an ace or a target. For instance, Japanese Ace Hiroyoshi Nishizawa shot down over 80 planes. He died while a passenger on a cargo plane.

6. It was a common practice on fighter planes to load every 5th round with a tracer round to aid in aiming. This was a mistake. Tracers had different ballistics so (at long range) if your tracers were hitting the target 80% of your rounds were missing. Worse yet, tracers instantly told your enemy he was under fire and from which direction. Worst of all was the practice of loading a string of tracers at the end of the belt to tell you that you were out of ammo. This was definitely not something you wanted to tell the enemy. Units that stopped using tracers saw their success rate nearly double and their loss rate go way down.

7. When allied armies reached the Rhine , the first thing men did was pee in it. This was pretty universal from the lowest private to Winston Churchill (who made a big show of it) and Gen. Patton, who had himself photographed in the act.

8. German Me-264 bombers were capable of bombing New York City (one way) , but they decided it wasn't worth the effort.

9. German submarine U-120 was sunk by a malfunctioning toilet.

10. Among the first "Germans" captured at Normandy were several Koreans. They had been forced to fight for the Japanese Army until they were captured by the Russians, and forced to fight for the Russian Army until they were captured by the Germans, and forced to fight for the German Army until they were captured by the US Army.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST....
11. Following a massive naval bombardment, 35,000 United States and Canadian troops stormed ashore at Kiska, in the Aleutian Islands ...21 troops were killed in the assault. It would have been worse if there had been any Japanese on the island.

A couple of them I know about but I don't know if they are all fact or just some more of the pass around stuff. I just didn't feel up to checking the fact or fiction sites such as Snopes.

How are things going with you and your family? Well I hope. It is overcast and supposed to shower today and then be sunny and in the 80s by Friday. Another big swing in our weather.

Well we are doing as well as can be expected right now. I would have to stump my toe to have something to complain about

It seem there is a "Peeping Tom" in our neighborhood. One family reported seeing some guy standing outside looking in the house. This is the second time. I suppose he likes what he sees. So, the neighborhood is all excited and everyone is outside looking around all the time now. That is a good thing. It gets them off there butts and outside.

My son won a fishing tournament in the neighborhood the other day and he got a gift card from Walmart. So that was neat. It was the biggest fish he had ever caught. IT was 22" long and weighed in at 3lbs 10 oz's. Not to shabby for a little guy.

That is great about your son winning the fishing tournament. Bet he was thrilled.

As for the peeping Tom when you said everyone in the neighborhood was out looking now, I first thought you meant through that window to see what he found so interesting. Kind of like that preacher we had up here years ago that complained so long and loud on TV and in the paper about that Adult Book store they put in. Then people that were protesting against it because of him were taking pictures of anyone going into it and coming out and sure enough, there was the preacher on more than one occasion. His excuse, I had to check it out to be sure that they had porn in there.
