That is what I had heard. I was hoping he would get it too and was shocked when I heard 60K. 80k is a little better though.

Hey Guys - My business partners father-in-law (got that) , has a mint one in his garage. The guy never drives it , but polishes the thing ever other weekend. Has asked me and my partner to sell it for him a few times. This guy is like Felix Unger (neat and anal about his stuff - in a good way). Could be a real nice buy for someone. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll get the message to him. Thanks, JC

I am currently looking at buying (actually trading for) a Tiger.

Here is a website with some historical facts:
http://www.tigersunited.com/history/tdev3.asp

Quote:
For the 1964 season, Ian Garrad contracted with Shelby to construct a stateside race car. The car completed and tested by Ken Miles (who had earlier built the "first" V8 prototype for $800.00 while Shelby was fabricating the "authorized" prototype). The Shelby racer won the 1964 SCCA Class B Pacific Coast Divisional Championship Race at Willow Springs, beating Jaguars, Corvettes, Stingrays and Cobras. By this time, Shelby American was in full swing with the Cobra racing program, and could not give the Tiger program the time it deserved. Factory support was given to the efforts of the Hollywood Sports Car team, headed by Doane Spencer.
And a link to other clubs:

Nonetheless, you have to be careful and not buy a Alger (an Alpine that has been converted to a Tiger).

Watch for the correct JAL #. If it has a CAT certification, you may be in good shape.

Like Mike, Max and the Tiger did it for me. As a kid in the 70's, my yellow Tiger slot car was unbeatable

Most Algers are pretty easy to spot if you know what to look for but for the novice buyer it can be a problem.
An Alpine would not have a JAL number.
I think what you meant is a TAC certification. CAT is the So. Cal Tiger club.

I have had 4 Tigers, fun cars and still affordable. (compared to most collectibles). Almost all of the 7000 built came with 260's with the last 500 using the 289. I think BRG was the most popular color, kinda grows on you after awhile. If you get a chance drive one, very much like a Cobra, just a little heavier.

You are correct; it is a CAT. After it is certified as being a real Tiger, they will affix a CAT (which is a tag attached to the frame).

The triple black car that I am looking at has the Sunbeam serial number and the corresponding JAL number. But it doesn't have a CAT (someone could have taken a wrecked Tiger and converted an Alpine to a Tiger). It does seem to be the real thing (complete with the Tiger air cleaner [$500 on eBay]).

Sine I live in the south, I can buy the triple black car to use as a rally car---and also as my sauna. I'll become healthier.

I have owned 4 Tigers and they are a blast. In fact I am looking for another if anyone knows of one for sale. I looked at getting a JCF 289 car but I just did not fit well, so the Tiger hunt is back on. Thanks again if you can help.
