Just had to comment thats a great post Roscoe. I forwarded the pic to a few friends, one of them about to embark on a CAMPING trip! Were still laughing.
Also, nice job with that old Shelby pic thats been poping up lately, I love that 'oldie but goodie'.
"Thats Evan", "I love that boy". Still makes me chuckle, especially with new phrases that keeps it ever young.

Tru,
Don't forget to use the bells next time you go hunting. Also a set of dog tags wouldn't hurt.

LOL, that is so funny.
When we were in Sequoia they had another one that was similar as well. I just can't remember what it said.

I almost went bear hunting in Alaska.
Just could not make it happen. It would have been great.
I hear you can attract bigger bears by dragging someone along the ground that has a bunch of bells hung on them.

Tru,
Alaskan Bears are different. Now if you really want an exciting bear hunt go to the Arctic circle.

At one time, you didn't even have to go to the Arctic Circle:

Oh...well if you drag around a Female Grizzly...in heat...I am sure you are going to get some bears attention AND I'm willing to bet it would be dangerous.

Come to think of it, in my younger days I had met some biker chicks that were dangerous when they mated.

I remember getting a directive from the Forest Service HQ once about how much dynamite we were required to pack per horse or mule when traveling in grizzly areas during the winter. The dynamite was to be put in the chest cavity of any animal that died on the trip since, with the ground frozen, you couldn't dispose of them otherwise and "environmentally" you couldn't leave them for the bears...........always wondered if the pack animals realized what those boxes were for.... might explain why some took off when the chance arrived!

Tampa,
I know this is a dumb question, but wouldn't blowing the Mules Body parts all over everywhere be as bad for the environment? And any chunks that were left the bears would find anyway. Also how did you dispose of one that died or was killed during the days when it wasn't so cold?

Bureaucrats. Outside of Washington DC, I don't "think" anyone worried about feeding the bears. No one I know dug a pit. And, outside of DC, no one was going to carry all that extra weight. However, it was an "official policy." (or maybe a joke started with using USDA's Official Stationary). Don't think the mules were laughing.
