Bill,

I liked your post about the 8000 ton freight whizzing by your elbow; brought back memories. Most of the time now, though, I'm forced to engine service and tucked away "safely" inside the cab.

Still I worry when I'm stopped in a siding and desperate for a nap. We're allowed short official lull-naps now that the airlines allowed same, as long as the conductor promises to stay awake.

So my theory is that I feel safer napping when the siding makes the mainline freights pass on the conductors side... just in case something goes horribly wrong. Extra 8 feet of room, you know. A man without illusion is disillusioned.

Speaking of adequate sleep, are you guys swamped with work lately? I think they sucked about 100 hours out of me this last week in spite of my attempt to take my days off (if we work 7, can get 3 off). I say attempt because they caught me an hour before the magic midnite hour of the 1st scheduled day and I didn't get back till late the 2nd, pretty well missing out. Again. Second time in a row. It's making me crazy.

Chained to the screaming locomotive for 12 hours, then chained to a creaking hotel room for 12 and chained back to the locomotive for another 12 hours. Average 36 hour round trip, 2 to 3 per week. No wonder they call the job class, "Chaingang", at least locally.

And my wife wonders why I would like to pound Margaritas when I get home. I need to rinse the smell of diesel fuel, coal dust and creosote from my nostrils.

Glyn,

All of the licenses, permits and proof of inspection required by the State of Colorado were prominently displayed. Ray Charles could have seen 'em! Must have been something else. Probably just teenagers feeling clever.

Bill,

Does that mean that you, as driver of the vehicle, have no responsibility for your actions and can't be sued personally? I'll admit I didn't know that was the case. Any lawyers on here have an opinion on that?

I did deal with the u-turning motorist. I waited until he was done and proceeded on, much like I would have done had I been driving a car. What's a bike lane have to do with anything? Bicycles are allowed on public roads, at least in Colorado.

I take it from your description of the incident with the cyclist on the sidewalk that you were traveling in the same direction. Didn't you see him beside you before you turned? In today's world I've found it pays to keep my head on a swivel, always looking out for what some other individual may do. One of the responsibilities of operating a motor vehicle is to pay attention to what is going on around you and react accordingly, doing whatever possible to avoid accidents.

Please follow this link to a site that may be of interest to you. You might want to stay home on November 17.

BTW,I have a blond wife, too.

Proper length is dependant on the type car or truck one is in.
It's about what reach is needed.

Riding on sidewalks is deserving of a ticket!!????

Riding on sidewalks is NOT illegal. Unless of course, there is a city sign saying so. I am shutting this thread down now.

I hate gay marriage, and hope we drop ten nuclear bombs on the ME. Oh, and McCain is an idiot. A friggin fool! And yes, Mormons cannot be presidents.

Mike,

I guess that depends on where you live. I've been discussing this thread with my father. He told me that when he was a child in Laramie, WY, during the early 1940's he and a friend had their bicycles impounded by the Laramie Police Department for one day because they were riding on the sidewalk.

[quote=Al Bockman]Bill,

I'm right, you're wrong, I'm dead, my widow is rich, your wife is broke, dreading visiting day at the penitentiary. You get three hots and a cot!! Whoo-hoo! Was it worth it?

Al,
I realize you are just responding to Bill's comment. But this is exactly why we do not the you damn bicyclist. As I said before it is a mentality issue and you just showed us your level of mentality.

Do you think that you are riding a damn bicycle just so someone will mow your ass over so your BLONDE (NOT blond) wife can get rich?

_______________(explicit deleted) man wake the hell up. Your attitude makes me want to take my F250 out and look for bikes so I can honk the horn and scare the living $hit out of them.

This is ECATLY why we don't like bicyclist.

BTW:
The F250 is also in an LLC for tax reasons and for people like you who only have one agenda, SUIT HAPPY, so come and get it pal! Also you should tell your soon to be widow to make damn sure she is prepared for a counter suit as I will, you can bet your a$$ on it.

Wes,I've turn down engine service countless times. There are enough FNGs below me that i shouldn't have to go.One craft in the cab is a long way off and one person in the cab is a carrier pipe dream 20+ years down the road.I work the Tucson-Yuma pool(254 miles) and i'm 31 out of 95 in senority.Right now we are turning about about every 55-60 hours on the west-end.12 over,12-24 in Motel 2 and 12 back.
The pool miles are being regulated artificially low by the TPA bastards at the UTU.The extra board is turning about every 24-30 hours during the week(no 7 & 3 thing) and turning on your rest on the weekend.(people laying off on the weekend-imagine that)

Caught you?You mean in a moment of forgetfullness-you answered the phone.
UP is double tracking the Sunset route and there is DT now from El Paso to Tucson with the exception of Wilcox. This January they're going to start in Tucson and go west. And of course DT will solve all problems with getting trains over the rails. If it said Lionel on the side-UP couldn't run 'em.

Yeah, your safe in the cab all right. But you'd still be safer 2 ft from a rig going 60mph.
And the carriers are scared to death of that rial safety bill before the Senate right now.

Whoa, Killer, calm down!

I've never filed a lawsuit in my life. I've never had a reason to. Being injured by a motorist might be a good reason. The court dockets are full of people suing motorists. Should my "widow" be excluded?

My reasons for riding a bicycle include enjoyment of the outdoors, the sheer fun of the activity, to test my physical abilities, and even the benefits of the exercise itself. Do you really, honestly believe I'm out there antagonizing motorists looking for a "payday" through the courts? Geez Louise, what have I ever personally done to you to cause such animosity?

And before you criticize my "spelling", read your post. "But this is exactly why we do not the you damn bicyclist." ???

Blond
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blond (or blonde, see below) is a hair color found in certain people characterized by low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. From degrees of almost light brown, to pale, almost white yellow, the various hues of blondness are found in a little less than 1.8% of the world's human population.

Wikipedia also says Aruba is part of North America. You(Al) or anyone else can alter entries in Wikipedia to your liking.

Hardly a trusted reference source.

And Killers""But this is exactly why we do not the you damn bicyclist." ???"sentence is NOT a spelling error.
But a grammatical error probably caused by fat fingers moving too fast no doubt due in part to the inaneness of your position.

Merriam-Webster spells it blonde.

CobraBill,

Exactly, see once again intelligence prevails.

Also and partially because, I knew what I wanted to put there would not be CC friendly.

Too Funny, How do you find this stuff? LOL

Hey Bernie,
One thing I have learned is when in another mans country don't buck the system. I don't get to Aussie land much and I don't suppose I will. If I did I'd be calling you anyway....... for a cold one NOT a bike ride. LOL

AL
Still not poking at you. Like I said three times now it is a mentality issue, that's all. Yours is different from mine.... big deal. At least for me anyway.

4RE KLR

Steve,

You are welcome for a beer or that bike ride.

I didn't get to involved in this Thread as I do not want to be on that hit list there. Mmmm just finished an 110 ride around the hills - legs a little sore..

Just in case there was any real interest in cycling, I thought that I would throw this little tit bit in for you in the US.

..just when you thought you were going to get us off the road..

The US House of Representitives are currently passing Energy Independence Legislation. Mmm this means fringe benefits to bike commuters...

Section 132 (f) of the IRS code.

Ways and Means Energy Bill...

Off the the Senate there next..

And the Californians thought Senate Bill 100 was a good one..

Sorry
