hey, Buzz glad you and yours are ok. Looked pretty wild!
anyway, I think you didn't get the point i was making, as when i re-read your post it was written differently than i had intended my post to sound like. Miscomunication on my part, I think.
I don't think we are very different on our stances, and I really didn't mean to imply that I thought the NAACP had a lot to do with Vick or any of a certain populations treatment. I was just playing off of Jamo's NCAA.
I think actually that the NCAA is at fault quite a bit, as is the fan base that seems to condone this behavior. Slap on the wrist for some, harsh penalties for others. It doesn't seem to matter the race; more about how the public or media interprets the crime. Quite arbitrarily, I think.
ok. now I'm REALLY gonna get off this thread!

Thank you Lil' Cobra. I also reread my post and I apologize for the intensity of its tone. I suppose it's easy to come across that way when people only know each other as a bunch of typed words on a computer screen. I'm sorry if I offended you and I realise that I need to lighten up in the tone of my posts. Sincerely, all the best.

nope, no offense taken, this time. I'm learning to toughen up a little!
there are a couple of lowlifes here, but you, are not one of them.
I thought that maybe I just didn't make myself clear and wanted to clarify myself and apologize.
ok... back to the real lowlife, M. Vick. ugh.

Sports Icons are entertainers. That's what they do. Like any of us they can be role models in certain aspects of their behaviour, philanthropy, humility etc. I think in most cases kids (and adults) mimic certain actions of sports/entertainers rather than emulate them. Same with media personalities and entertainers. They are hired for their looks and physical skills. But as we all know life is more than skin deep.

JT-the "positive roles models"have in common the fact that they just wanted/want to play their sport. They didn't ask for the "role model moniker".It(the title) was dropped on them by others shirking their responsiblity.

The PLAYER is the roll model, not the PERSON.

They surely used to be. And I don't think things have changed all that much, even though money has skewed perceptions.

Is Michael Jordan a role model? Remember the hot dog commercial? What about Tiger?

They are - to young people, but hopefully not to anyone that has a will developed brain.
