Default This Hollywood Strike....

Not that I care...but....it seems strange that these allegedly great talk shows like Leno, Letterman, etc are going into reruns because their writers are going on strike. Geeeez, can't they do an hour or two on their own? Are they that shallow?

I mean, look at radio talk. Shows that are 3, 4 and even 5 hours. No writers.

I hear that even "The View" has writers. And here I thought all those squabbling Bush-hating women came up with their own foul-mouthed lines.

I've never watched any of these shows but just find it interesting that they can't do it on their own....with their alleged TALENT.

But she's coming baaaaaack

Rosie O’Donnell in Talks to Join MSNBC

By JACQUES STEINBERG and BILL CARTER

Rosie O’Donnell, who abruptly left “The View” on ABC last spring after drawing attention and ratings for her opinions on everything from the Iraq war to her co-hosts, is in serious discussions to return to television atop a new soapbox: a prime-time show on the cable news channel MSNBC, according to executives on both sides of the negotiations who have been briefed directly.

Under one scenario, Ms. O’Donnell would be given the 9 p.m. slot each weeknight on MSNBC, where she would go head-to-head with two heavyweights of cable talk: “Larry King Live” on CNN and “Hannity & Colmes” on Fox News. Her show would replace “Live with Dan Abrams,” a relatively low-rated program that only recently replaced “Scarborough Country,” which was also little-watched.

But NBC executives, speaking on condition of anonymity because the conversations are continuing, cautioned that there were many elements of a potential deal yet to be resolved. These include when such a show would appear, what Ms. O’Donnell would be paid, and whether she would also be seen on the NBC broadcast network.

Have you ever really timed a talk radio show. Out of every 60 minutes on the air....15-20 might be talk... It's all commericals..

I probably watch about 10% of what I have on local and directTV. One of the most memorable was Discovery channels 'winged Migration'. A must see if you haven't, and without those BS commercials.

It seem to me the writers are really needed. Not many are good at getting their point across with their own words. I'll bet that some of the posters on this forum rely on others for their material.

media, all forms, I guess politics included also, all fall under the guise of that movie with William Hurt, "Broadcast News"

it is all about the 'show' first, the ones which can actually deliver substance, don't 'show' well enough.

Most of the writers don't seem to be very good anymore. I don't watch all that much TV, but now and then I will watch a "sit-com" for a few minutes. Most of the lines are so bad that you wouldn't even know that it was supposed to be funny if it wasn't for the stupid laugh track ha-ha-ha crap.

Remember when shows like Carol Burnett played in front of a live audience? It was very well done and very funny. The audience would laugh because they were being entertained. There was no stupid laugh track needed.

Maybe I am just getting old and miserable but I think that many of these "writers" should probably find another line of work.

I still cannot get over the fact that guys like Leno and Letterman need writers.

Who really cares? Not me.

There is only one show I watch every week on local TV channels (the Unit). All my other TV viewing is from TNT, Fox, TLC, DSC, HBO, the Military Channel or the History channel. Wait a minute, I think they are going to change the History channel to the Hitler channel.

It's really depressing when you flip thru about 300 channels on the cable guide and then say to yourself .... "There is absolutely nothing worth watching on TV tonight". On second though, that's probably good, because I have more time to read books or do other thing. We all watch the BooB Tube too much.

Warren

I think that they should change the name of the Speed channel to NASCAR 24/7. I am always amazed how they can talk for days about NASCAR.

I probably watch the History Channel more than anything else. The strange part of this is that I literally hated history when I was in high school and now I love it.

I'm with you Wayne. I watch the History channel a lot. Probably more than any other channel. I also watch the Speed channel, but there is a lot of crap on that channel too! Pinks! What a farce! Don't get me going!

Same here. I watch the history channel and some of the discovery channels. Speed I hardly watch as all it is any more is the same dumb mouths telling everyone how great NASCAR is. I was amazed the one show I did watch to find out that if you broke the valve stem out of a tire it would PROBABLY go flat. Hey, maybe Kristen should watch it some. They did have one segment on carbs and ignitions and that if either broke the car wouldn't run.

Wayne, I too was not much on history, except for one teacher who talked about the persoanl lives of the characters. All the rest were nothing but dates to remember, and little else.

Now the history channel is one of my favorites. Then again I hate asparagus when I was a kid too................

I'm surprised they are still doing the nightly news. They must have non union writers.

As far as Leno and Letterman go,they are so not funny anymore and they lean way too far to the left for me. Where the hell is carson when we need him?? RIP Johnnie we miss you!

I don't think Leno and Letterman purposley lean to the left it is just that there are so many more easy targets on the right.

If you want to hear a right leaning comic your choices are few the only one I can think of right now is Dennis Miller if you consider him funny. Does he have a show anymore?

Heck you need a PhD to understand a Dennis Miller joke (at least you have to graduate 8th grade).

Gimme Jeff Foxworthy, come to think of it, I might be a redneck if'n I think you need a PhD to understand Dennis Miller...
