What are the benefits of becoming a Contributing member of ClubCobra?

It appears that more space for photos and possibly the ability to upload an animated avatar are two of them.

Do advertisement go away?

What is considered the minimum annual Contribution?

Thanks.

Ray,

I have contributed since I joined and to my knowledge there is no minimum nor set amount. I know that I can't afford to contribute nearly as much as some people do so I just send what I can afford at the time.

Ron

Thanks for the responses, but I guess I'm a little anal in that I'm thinking that there are specific guidelines posted somewhere that I've missed - minimum contribution and benefits. I know that I was able to upload animated avatars in the past, but that was taken away some time ago without notice - other than it's not allowed any longer. I can understand that, but others have subsequented uploaded animated avatars, so now I'm just wondering if a contribution = benefits.

...

Is there a way to contribute without using paypal? By snail-mail & check perhaps? I thought Turk or somebody used to periodically collect somehow.

Wes,

I have always sent mine in via money order. I make it out to Brent and then mail it to whomever is doing the collection.

All can hang loose for a bit, if that's OK...

...there is a potential 'volunteer' in the wings for the next Fundraiser.

I would think that if you wanted the Contributor status now, you could do it off-cycle, directly to Brent. Send him a PM.

No base amount has ever been set; it is what you can do and what you feel the value is to you.

thanks

$150? Yikes, where did that number come from?
I'm way behind, and looks like it will stay that way!

One of the features for contributors I like is the ability to delete a post, not just edit it. There used to be additional 'Thread Tools' as well, but I guess that was over the top and thats been removed for some time now. Contributors also have a larger total storage area for their gallery of pictures, no big deal unless you have a really BIG gallery. Advertisements stay the same, and personally I like that, I often click on them just to stay in touch with the industry. To me it's not about the 'benefits' of being a contributor, it's about showing my support for the 'team'. It's money well spent in that regard.

When I first joined here there were a number of "Cobra" sites I also visited, but for some reason, this one stuck. It's amazing to me how over the years THIS site has clearly risen head and shoulders above the rest, many of which don't even exist anymore. We get industry breaking news, often from the very people making the news! It is truly remarkable how it's developed such a fine following of experts over the years. If the news isn't posted here, you can BET there is a link to it here! It's like "Club Cobra" is the clearing house for all things Cobra. A recent case of a link posted about an orginal AC found on a 4 wheel drive site! You can't run, you can't hide, Club Cobra WILL find you if your doing something Cobra related!

Ernie - I think 392 was busting Ron's chops. When they have had these
donation drives they have been a "give whatever you feel like" to say
thanks for the hard work of keeping this site going. I feel like I have
met a lot of great people here, definitely learned a lot about these cars,
and have an excellent resource for help when things go wrong with the car.
Hard to put a price on all that so I try to give what I can at the time knowing
that every little bit helps to say thanks.
Payment method has also been up to the individual. Pay pal is usually an
option, I send a check so the receiver doesn't get any deducted to Pay pal,
and as Ron said, you can send money orders.
For now I am waiting until someone runs with it so I can gladly contribute
again. Kind of like leaving a good tip after an excellent meal. My 2 cents.

Once again, structure is important in all things - guidelines on a minimum contribution, perhaps a way to contribute each month, versus once a year - a lot of site turn off the advertisements once a contribution is made, some sites ask for contributions - but, they are non-profit with no advertisements, such as freerepublic.com. Sense it appears that advertisements will remain, regardless of contribtution, it seems to me a minimum guideline should be posted by Brent as he is the only one, I believe, that knows what it takes to maintain this site - but, hopefully he will not post the minimum right after one of his servers blows up! Anyway, just curious at this point - I'll be retiring in a few years, perhaps will volunteer to manage contribution activity.

Hmmm. $150? I might pony up if I had the ability to delete other people's posts!

Question

The Holidays get crazy and I don't want to overlook the opportunity. How can it be done via PayPal now and receive whatever benefit/credit down the road?

Flip,

Fred can afford to send in huge amounts. After all his cut from what Frenchy earns more than cover this and then he takes it off his taxes as a donation and not hers. This is by far the best site I have been on and I belong to a couple that charge a yearly due and would drop them if I didn't like their magazines. Plus you have to own a car to belong to them. Since I no longer have a Cobra, I can still come here and read and learn, and now I really miss mine. But I am to old and sick to even think about starting another one. I am just waiting until whomever decides to run thing this year puts out the information plus their address so I can main in my puny contribution.

Mike,

If you donate enough you will be put on the possible in the far distance future, if everyone else turns it down, moderators list.

Ron

A lot of people know that Frenchy is a certified 2-bit Ho.

It takes her 3 days of work to 'earn' the $150 she allows me to donate (and deduct) to Brent.

He must not mind Ho money seeing as how he allows her picture here too.
(This is the only place besides the Post Office where it can be seen.)

Fred,

In this day of inflated prices, I would think that Frenchy would be charging more than that. And here I was ready to get a stable of French Frogs and put them to work for me.

Flip nailed it with his analogy, I believe.

"...a tip after an excellent meal."

Tip? One can have an excellent meat at McDonalds, I suppose. I guess there really isn't answers to my original questions.

Ray,

I answered you as best I can in my first post. There has never been any set amount nor pressure to contribute. As I said then, I just send in whatever I can afford at the time. I have gotten a lot of help and met some good people on the site and that is why I contribute some, not because it is required or expected.

Also,I don't contribute for something I may or may not receive in return.
I do it as a way of saying - Thanks.
