Lightbulb And You Thought Pennies Are Worthless

I always pick them up but I never had any like these.

Yea same here. I pick up the change and most of it goes in my sons piggy bank. My dad had some rare coins and bills before it was stolen. His collection was valued at somewhere around $1 Million, but there was a lot more coins that were not quite as valuable.

Joe,

That is to bad about your Father's collection being stolen. The only coins that I have that are really worth anything I keep in a deposit box at the bank. And there sure aren't enough of them for anyone to bother with stealing them.

I collected tons of coins when I was a young fool. Sold most of the good ones in the 1960's when silver prices were high, and any silver dime and quarter were sold for $1.60 per $1 face value. Thankfully I did not sell my silver dollars.

I will always remember the story my father told about the funny looking pennies that he used as change in his grocery store in the mid 50's. He said he had about 10 rolls of the strange looking pennies.

Too bad the double struck pennies are worth $200 to $1000 each now. Do the math

My dad still will not face it, but it was a family member who stole the collection. He had an old bank safe deposit box (late 1800s era) from an old bank in our basement. The only thing stolen was the collection in the safe. They used explosives to blast open the doors. Nothing else was touched. Whoever it was had to know exactly what they were looking for and where it was. I had 2 2nd cousins who shortly after that happened suddenly had new cars and were throwing money around like it was going out of style. They eventually got busted with drugs, and claimed the money was from selling drugs, but it did not fit for the amounts of money with the amount of drugs. I still am convinced it was them.
