Obama is a 'post turtle'."
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Barack Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said,"Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'."
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said,"When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'."
The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.
"You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just want to help the dumb a$$ get down."

I am speaking as an outsider so take my comments for whatever they are worth.
Two or three years ago, I watched BO being interviewed on TV and I thought to myself, now there is a young man that is articulate, intelligent, honest, has a good sense of humor, and seems to know what he wants to accomplish in life. I also thought that maybe he would change US politics as he certainly did not appear to be the typical politician heading for the White House. I tried to follow reports as he began his drive to become President and I continued to be impressed with what I heard and read.
Then in the past couple of months some of his baggage began to become public and I had a hard time to believe some of it. As time went on, I realized that he has been associating with some people that do not have the best interests of the USA at heart. (He recently has tried to distance himself from that preacher friend but it appaers to be too little, too late). I recently read a report that outlines much of what he has said in the campaign and compared it to what he has said and done before hand. My opinion of the man has now changed completely and I wonder what will happen to the US if he were to be elected. He had me fooled, my worry is that he may still have sufficient American voters fooled to get elected.

Turtles hate being associated with BO (that is either the politician or the smelly stuff).
Turtle just voted this thread as a "Terrible". It really is lower than a Humpin' Ho sister.

Well stated and fair, Wayne. BO is very impressive as a speaker and speaking is an important part of being POTUS, but in the end it's all albout policies and programs. Even putting policies and programs aside, the only real insight those of us who don't know BO can gather is through taking a look at who is has aligned himself with in life, so far. The mad preacher, the mad bomber, and the developer (now on trial) are a few. His wife seems angry and looking for payback. Geez, does anyone here want to 'trust' BO will leading America for 4 years, at this time in history. He has great things to say, a wonderful way of saying them, but no real accomplishments in life so far other than being elected a Senator.
As to policy and programs - BO has tons of programs in mind, all of which naturally involve the re-allocation of assets from the rich to the poor with trillions of dollars at stack. Increasing taxes on practically everyone that makes money will be required (not just rich people), right in the middle of a recession - high oil, gas and food, and a housing debacle. Putting BO in office as America faces hard times is suicidal. Compromising with McCain is the only sane way to go.

I will add one more point.
Several months ago NAFTA became the focal point for one or more of the debates. BO came out very strongly about re-opening NAFTA. At the same time, his "people" were telling the Canadian Government not to worry because this is all just campaign talk and NAFTA will not be touched if he is elected. This was all over the papers up here but very little of that story made the news in the US until just recently. This is a very good example of saying one thing while planning to do something entirely different.
Of course most politicians are liars, aren't they?

BO is a great speaker. Many fine politicians have been great speakers. Too bad one of the best speakers was Hitler, so both sides of the aisle are covered.
I think I know exactly what I'll get for a vote for McCain or Hillary, but I have no idea what BO would provide. He is against everything the "competition" is for, but has not committed to very much himself ... just platitudes and niceties.
He reminds me of the old lady in the Wendy's commercial 25 years ago ....
Where's the beef?

People often ask "What has Obama done". That is actually a pretty simple question to answer, and for a lot of people that answer is enough.
Here it is, with a comparison to one or the other of his competitors:
Obama has kept the same principles regarding on abortion; in '99 McCain was against overturning Roe v. Wade - in 2006 he favoured overturning Roe v. Wade and returning control to the individual states.
Obama has maintained that invading Iraq was a mistake; Clinton originally voted for it, and has had to modify her stance a number of times.
Obama has maintained a squeaky clean record since he started serving as a Senator; McCain was investigated as one of the Keating 5...and don't get me going on Clinton.
The long and the short of it is that people like Obama because he has not show the same level of corruption, flip-flopping, and dishonesty that his competitors have shown. He has had a pretty consistent and squeaky clean image on the national level. He gives them hope that there might actually be a politician who wants to uphold American values. His competition cannot offer that, and that is the 'change' the people want.
Most people don't examine issues - they would rather vote for the person they 'like'. Most people can't explain why they 'like' them though. Based on that observation I had Obama picked as the Dem candidate a couple of years ago. I'm still sticking by that prediction.
Personally, as I don't trust any politicians, I think it is only a matter of time before people start finding/examining (it has already started) the skeletons in his closet. Combine that with the level of power he would have and he would end up just as corrupt as any other Washington weenie.
Edit: Oh - I'm still voting for Ron Paul!

I have to admit that there is some wisdom in a 75 year old Texan. Some damned funny wisdom at that!

Be VERY careful what you post. Here, or on Myspace or Facebook, etc. Hiring decisions ARE made based on crap like this. Heck, I know people who literally scan the Internet after interviewing people (for posts made by them).
So, yes, we do hire like we vote.

The media and late night talk shows have always enjoyed pointing out the gaffes of President Bush (nuclear), Dan Quayle (remember potatoe), McCain (recall the 100 years in Iraq) and others in the GOP.
Liberals like Obama usually get a pass or have excuses made for them. Here’s a fun article showing some of the Obamatizations that are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes idiotic, and sometimes outright lies: Enjoy
http://townhall.com/columnists/Miche...machine?page=1
Barack Obama: Gaffe Machine
Michelle Malkin
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
All it takes is one gaffe to taint a Republican for life. The political establishment never let Dan Quayle live down his fateful misspelling of "potatoe." The New York Times distorted and misreported the first President Bush's questions about new scanner technology at a grocers' convention to brand him permanently as out of touch.
But what about Barack Obama? The guy's a perpetual gaffe machine. Let us count the ways, large and small, that his tongue has betrayed him throughout the campaign:
-- Last May, he claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a whopping 10,000 people: "In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed." The actual death toll: 12.
-- Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: "Over the last 15 months, we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states? I think one left to go."
-- Last week, in front of a roaring Sioux Falls, S.D., audience, Obama exulted: "Thank you, Sioux City. ... I said it wrong. I've been in Iowa for too long. I'm sorry."
-- Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: "Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it's not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle." On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?
-- Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Ala., he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement:
"There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born."
Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was "speaking metaphorically about the civil rights movement as a whole."
-- Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by homing in on a lack of translators: "We only have a certain number of them, and if they are all in Iraq, then it's harder for us to use them in Afghanistan." The real reason it's "harder for us to use them" in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi or other non-Arabic languages.
-- Over the weekend in Oregon, Obama pleaded ignorance of the decades-old, multi-billion-dollar massive Hanford nuclear waste cleanup:
"Here's something that you will rarely hear from a politician, and that is that I'm not familiar with the Hanford, uuuuhh, site, so I don't know exactly what's going on there. (Applause.) Now, having said that, I promise you I'll learn about it by the time I leave here on the ride back to the airport."
I assume on that ride, a staffer reminded him that he's voted on at least one defense authorization bill that addressed the "costs, schedules, and technical issues" dealing with the nation's most contaminated nuclear waste site.
-- Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama's "Dreams from My Father":
"Then, there's the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don't exist, say the magazine's own historians."
-- And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn't "pose a serious threat to us" -- cluelessly arguing that "tiny countries" with small defense budgets can't do us harm -- and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, "I've made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave."
Barack Obama -- promoted by the Left and the media as an all-knowing, articulate, transcendent Messiah -- is a walking, talking gaffe machine. How many more passes does he get? How many more can we afford?
