Exclamation Lightning starts 800 Fires In Calif.

This is the latest news that was just posted a few minutes ago. I know that my throat is raw and my eyes hurt from all of the smoke and ash in the air around here and the sun couldn't break through much yesterday.

I've been in a tornado, never a forest fire, can't imagine either one being worst than the other. I gotta get those kudzu seeds dropped in Ca.

Just send us some of that water that is flooding all those places. Between the ash and dust, it is really hard on people with any type of breathing problems.

Makes you wonder why it is always California that has those forest fires. You would think they would spend more tax payer money on prevention or combative tools.

Are any of them close to you Ron. I hope your not in danger out there.

Steve,

We have 60 small ones around here but they have most of the either out now or under control. It is still very smoky this morning and the sun is having a hard time getting through.
They do the best they can to prevent them, but there is nothing that you can do about lightening strikes. They had the spotter planes in the air watching for them as soon as that 4 hours of heavy thunder and lightning moved on. That is why they have managed to stop them as well as they have.

This is exactly why we have these monster fires...dumbass liberal enviro-morons can't stand to see a tree burn, so we put out fires that should've burned well before all the damn underbrush got so thick, and they stopped the forest service from using prescribed burns as part of intelligent forest management. On top of that, they stopped healthy harvesting of deadwood and overgrown old growth forests. Finally, they took the ability of ranchers to use vast tracks of scrub areas to keep fuel under control.

Liberals are maggots upon the life of this planet and need to get off at the next rotation.

You are welcome.

Steve,

I just talked to the forest service and some of the fires about 20 miles from Redding that they thought they had contained have jumped the lines and they have no idea of when they may get them under control. Also one is starting down the canyons toward the lake and that underbrush is so bad that if it gets to that canyon all they can do is back off and let it go until it gets to the top of a mountain where they can try to stop it. Once it becomes a crown fire, it is very hard to contain. I believe they told me there were 1200 lightning strikes during Saturday's storm. The smoke and haze seems to be getting worse as the day goes by.
Jamo answered you with a very good explanation. They tried to clear out the dead brush and log some old trees here a couple of years back and the tree huggers had a fit and got it stopped.

Edit to add: Here is a link to the local paper where you can read about all the fires and they have a link to the map showing them. http://recordsearchlight.com/

Edit: This will change daily if anyone is interested.

You want lightning? Gaysus, it just started here about 10 minutes ago. Wind picked up, temperature plummeted from 82 to 65 °F in 3 minutes, and it just started raining with tons of thunder and lightning.

Do you hear that one!

But we here in Taxachusetts outlawed forest fires. Guess we need some chaparral and some powerful dry winds off of our mountains (well, mole hills).

OMG, that blast was close.

Jamo,
Hey buddy, tell us what you really think.

Maybe someone should explain to them ding dongs what "Forest Management" really is. Controlled burns are a good thing. Does anyone remember the Yellowstone fires from 1988 that started from a lightning strike? They are not back on the controlled fires method of forest management.

The tree huggers have done more to harm this great country than anything I know of. Letting them off would be a great idea, or better yet let's put their butts on the next Mars Orbiter. (one way of coarse)

I am so glad we do not have fires like that here. They rarely talk about your California fires anymore on the news.

Latest report on the local news last night that was we had over 1,400 lightning strikes in Shasta county alone. Good news was that most of the fires haven't burned over 1,000 acres yet. Bad news is that they don't have many of the contained yet and are evacuating some people again that they had allowed back into their homes.

Thanks for changing the spelling as I couldn't once I had posted it. I saw it once I submitted it but the Title can't be corrected by an edit. Sorry that I upset you Sal. Must be nice to live in Florida and not have to worry about this type of stuff. I don't think I like the Hurricanes much better, but at least most of the time you do get some warning.

Just heard that the Los Padres fire has burned 37 square miles and is about a mile South of Big Sur. The Santa Clara Valley as been haze of smoke for the past week and Santa Cruz hasn't been much better. What a mess!

The smoke has finally cleared enough here for them to start using the planes and they have been going over my house almost non stop since late yesterday evening. Already going over this morning just as soon as it got light enough for them to see.

Map of Northern Calif. fires. Edited to remove Image tags as picture is way to large.
