Ernie,
A lot of questions need to be asked but not by the morons that are getting rich off the war. Get the dam politicians out of the mix and let our military loose. This stuff now is as bad as me trying to compare when I was in Korea with what is going on. It is a different generation, a different kind of war, and nothing that applied then would apply now except kill the enemy.
CDC.
What happened to your picture? All I see is a small red X.

Picture? What picture? A can't even see the post!
The Killing Fields happened for a variety of reasons. We probably should never have been in Vietnam, and once we were, we should have done the job the right way. Very complex problem.
The Tet offensive basically destroyed the North, but Walter Cronkite declared it as a loss for us. Had we stayed a bit longer, and been allowed to fight the correct way, the North would have been a footnote in history. But we left, and the North still had Russia & China (and their weapons), and the Killing Fields happened. Lots of people to blame. Had we left Iraq before the surge, the same kind of thing would have happened. Iran would have made it possible.
Some 50,000 American lives were lost in vain, and some 2000 more are still unaccounted for, my Dad being one of those. Quitting in Iraq would be a very, very bad idea. Let the generals do their job.
BTW, have you noticed that no one is singing the praises of General Petraeus?
Mike

I agree about withdrawing from Iraq prematurely, we need to do it carefully. I won't pretend to have a clue about when and how we should do it. I'm not sure Bush has a clue either!

Bush doesn't have a clue....that's why he's got Petreaus (sp). I just hope he listens to him. Even if the Iraq war is over, the country stabilized, and troops home does not mean the war against Islam is over. It may be just beginning.

My spelling is better than your's Roscoe.
Bush does not have to have a clue. Just surround himself with smart people. The best "leaders" will tell you that. And Petraeus was a smart choice... albeit a bit late.

Better late than never. Let's put things in perspective: Can you imagine if CNN covered WWII in the same way it is today?
BTW: my spelling is excellent!

It IS a liberal left problem...they want to go to war, but don't want to hurt anybody. Remember Clinton sending US troops into hot zones with orders not to shoot? The UN sending them in UNARMED? Ridiculous. We need to re-educate the citizenry (and the left government) in Sherman's war. Total, unequivocal and determined. It is always better to end a conflict faster (even with a greater loss of life) than to let it drag on for years if not decades and centuries (far greater loss of life). IslamoFascism is the threat. Eliminate it by whatever means are at hand.....period. And inform the left that yes, that will mean killing them, not trying to 'win hearts and minds' because that battle is over, and civilization did not win in the case of these savages.
