Default Do-it-yourself paint on bedliners???

I was considering one of those do-it yourself paint on bedliners---like herculiner. I know the professionaly applied products are much, much better but don't think that is in the budget right now.

Has anyone tried it?

I don't recall the brand of the roll-on I used in my old truck...but it didn't hold up at all. It began chipping away after about a month, granted it was only where items were placed. I ended up buying a rubber mat to cover up my cheap fix. My current truck has a sprayed in liner and it has held up for two years with just a couple chips near the tail gate...which were more my fault then the quality of the materials. So, IMHO...save the money for a mat or better yet save a little longer and pop for the real deal.

Default Prep is the key

My son usd the Herculiner on his truck bed. It did not hold up very well at all. The trouble is that you really need to do a lot of prep work to get it to stick. If any oil, dust, grime or just shiny paint is there when applying then it will peel.
If you were to almost beadblast the bed then it would probably work just fine. But who wants to go that far.

You guys are validating my original thoughts. I am sure prep is a big part, just like any job. I will most likely pass and get a mat as suggested or wait and spring with a proven coating.

Thanks
