Just goes to show you expensive equipment doesn't matter.

Man uses Barbie fishing rod to make record catch
Fri Aug 22, 2:51 AM ET
David Hayes' granddaughter just asked him to hold her Barbie rod and reel while she went to the bathroom. He did. And seconds later he landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce.
Alyssa's father had bought the pink Barbie fishing rod for Christmas and she had caught a few bluegill before her grandfather hauled in the catfish.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported the catch Aug. 5 in eastern Wilkes County has been certified as a record by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
Hayes and his granddaughter have been fishing in the pond behind his house since she was big enough to hold a pole.
Hayes said his granddaughter worried he would break her rod. He landed the 21-pound fish on a 6-pound test line. It was 32 inches long, 2 inches longer than the rod.

Awesome. That had to be a fine line to balance to not break the line or the rod/reel. Not sure I could do it.

That is really something. Wonder what would have happened if his granddaughter had been holding the pole when the fish took the bait?

Ron,
Timing is everything. Not to discredit the daughter but had she been holding
the rod I think the likely out come would have been either:
A) She would have broken the line and lost the catfish, or
B) She would have lost the rod to the catfish, or
C) She would have gone swimming and lost the rod to the catfish.
Then again, she just may have hauled that buggar in.
Bet they had a good meal that night.

Flip,
My bet is that she would have gotten so excited she would have either dropped the rod and lost the fish or fell in. I would most likely have broken the line.

I can do some fish, but catfish is a bit too much of a garbage feeder for me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they are good eating and taste wonderful, but I am just not interested in a fish that eats the things these fish eat.

Tru,
You need to watch some episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies and learn what real food is. They even serve Catfish in restaurants.

Fred:
Yes I do, very well in fact and I have saved those photos somewhere on my computer.......
Ya'll need to come back to NPR someday, they have a "track day" almost once a month now thru out the year...........
For the record, I have tried the BBQ raccoon at a buddies hunting camp one winter and it wasn't soo bad, I still prefer a good T-Bone though and I drew the line when they offered me the dillo...........
But I do eat things like crawfish (Yankees call them mudbugs) and catfish and squirrels and a few other things some folks would never try......
David
