That looks like a familiar place for some reason.

I pray it doesn't slam us like Katrina did but we are making preparation as I type.

I don't think we will really know what to expect until it gets in the Gulf but it's taking its sweet time getting out of the Caribbean Sea.

Good luck, Ed. Lets hope it plays itself out over water. A hurricane is no laughing matter and not something to wish upon anyone. Gustav passed right over us while it was still developing and while it wasn't strong enough yet to do much damage, it just seemed to have a nasty disposition.

Not a lot of news up here this morning about the storm so I have been trying to find stuff on the net. Last I could find was it hit land I believe they said South-West of New Orleans and that it had diminished in force a a lot. I don't know if this is true, considering the source, but hope that none of the people in the area wherever it hit were injured. Also it would be great if it has diminished in force. Anyone in that area that can posy some updates as to just what is actually happening?

Ron;

I use MSN.com as my homepage and they have a lot of udates and info........try them......

I'm about halfway up the state north/south and all the way on the east side, right in the L of the "boot"......It's about 10:30 am today and just getting "breezy" right now, little to no rain, yet, forecast for me is about 10 to 15 inches of rain and 50 mph sustained winds and possible gusts to 75mph, not that good, but could be worse.......it should hit me around dark today and last thru the night....

New Orleans is getting a lot of rain right now and they are worried about one levee, seems there are 3 ships that broke loose and are banging against a levee..............

Most folks were evacuated south of I-10 and that is the good news, I guess they learned a lesson from Katrina.......

Nagan ain't messing around this time either, told everyone to get out, if you don't, your own your own, ain't nobody coming to save your a$$........National Guard and state police have been down there for three or four days now and they have a dusk to dawn curfew......looters will be shot on sight!!!!!!!!!!that's the best news.......

As you can see I still have electricity here and hope we don't go without power too long.......since Katrina, a lot of progress has been made in clearing highline right-of-ways of trees to cut down on downed power lines......

Not too much else going on, been piddling in my shop most of the morning, can only watch the updates for soo long............

David

David,

Thanks for the tip and update. I hope that it misses you and your area. They have just added a temporary update module to my home page and it has some video that is only about 20 minutes old. Hopefully the levees will hold.
I have to agree with that part about looters. Nothing much lower in my opinion than those types who will take advantage of people's losses and misfortunes to steal everything they can carry. I think it should be a national law to just shoot them when anything happens.

Ron

It's not to bad here in BR yet. We've had rain since last night, but it hasn't been heavy. No loss of power. The wind here is 25-40 with drops to 0. The debris in the street here is less than we get from a summer thunderstorm. It could get a lot worse here before it becomes a problem. We haven't even had a blip on our satellite.

NO is getting rain and wind but so far everything is holding. There are no barges loose that I've seen on TV - and they were looking for them. Turns out it was Katrina and being used as an example of how rumors can get loose.

So far the plans that have been executed appear to be working.

Great Doug, two TV stations had live shots of what looked like nothing more than heavy rain and wind but no destruction. Hope you guys make it with no big loss.

well .........

that was interesting. Blew through here from ~11:30 till 4

Blew fences down on both sides of us. Large tree is down across the back fence. Houses on the other side of the street have lost shingles and one has lost the top of their chimney. Our roof is intact and no leaks.

A blanket on leaves and small branches across the road.

We have power via the generator, and cooking via the grill so, so far, we are fine and getting on with supper. Chilli and hot dogs and nice cold coke to go with it.
