1st Debate should be interesting...
Put in on your calendar...September 26, 2008: Presidential debate with domestic policy focus, University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS
Should provide plenty of fodder for this thread. Can't seem to find a date for the VP debate(s). That should be interesting, too!

How can I sign up to be Sarah Palin's INTERN? I can handle a few "under-the-desk" tasks.

Palin woos Republicans with fiery speech
McCain formally wins presidential nomination at St. Paul convention
By Russ Britt & Kristen Gerencher, MarketWatch
Last update: 12:53 a.m. EDT Sept. 4, 2008
ST. PAUL, Minn. (MarketWatch) - As the Republican Party formally nominated John McCain for president Wednesday, vice president nominee Sarah Palin launched a formidable attack on Democratic hopeful Barack Obama and characterized herself as an outsider who won't conform to Washington's ways.
Picked by McCain to accompany him on the ticket just five days ago - and the first woman in the history of the Republican Party to be tapped for the vice president slot - Palin made a confident declaration of her abilities, the subject of recent scrutiny. She hit Obama in his soft spots, taking on such issues as his statement earlier this year that some people in small towns "cling" to religion and guns when they get disillusioned with politics.

All in the family
Republicans want everyone to hear Palin's heart-warming story: a principled, born-again, feisty hockey mom who has suddenly become a national leader. But the ensuing media coverage of her personal life -- her work/life balance and her teen daughter's pregnancy, for instance -- has been snowballing. Some say family life should be off limits in political campaigns, which should be taken literally. That means no more trotting out the kids and no more admiring speeches from spouses. Read Rex Nutting's commentary .

Whoah! My link was destroyed? The same dam song played on Rush Limbaugh? That was bad for this forum? And Nailin Palin is acceptable?
Someone needs to get a PC clue. Next thing ya know the "bad word" filter will start bleeping the niggardly use of moderator deletion power.

Very interesting comment in that article.
"We were kind of sure we were voting for McCain, but we were really voting against Obama. Now we're voting for Palin."
I was amazed at an article I read in the paper yesterday. It criticized Palin because she went to 5 or 6 different colleges when she was a teenager to get her degree. What a crock of crap coming out of the liberal media. It was an AP newswire.

That was the article, but only the first 3 paragraphs were used, so it sounded like something was wrong and she was doing something nefarious. The end of the story is a little more fair and balanced, as Fox News would say.
That article is still a little slanted but the liberal media is just itching to publish anything about her. And if it has any hint of a scandal, that makes it front page headlines.

So she went to five or six different colleges to get her degree. How many professional students are there that have gone to several colleges and don't have a degree? The fact she went that much shows more determination and desire than many of the others have.

The FIRST college she went to was on the Big Island in Hilo. Her and a girlfriend, niether of them actually enrolled however. They left Hilo because it rained so much over there. I can dig it, having worked in Hilo myself, seems like the rain is non stop.

Barack Obama will be a guest on David Letterman's Show, Wednesday Sept 10th. It will be interesting if they discuss Palin as Letterman has been critical of McCain's choice and Obama has mentioned he is running against McCain, not Palin:
http://lateshow.cbs.com/latenight/la...ow_info/pants/
According to USA Today, this will be Obama's 5th appearance on the show

Obama and the Palin Effect
Deepak Chopra - September 04, 2008
Sometimes politics has the uncanny effect of mirroring the national psyche even when nobody intended to do that. This is perfectly illustrated by the rousing effect that Gov. Sarah Palin had on the Republican convention in Minneapolis this week. On the surface, she outdoes former Vice President Dan Quayle as an unlikely choice, given her negligent parochial expertise in the complex affairs of governing. Her state of Alaska has less than 700,000 residents, which reduces the job of governor to the scale of running one-tenth of New York City. By comparison, Rudy Giuliani is a towering international figure. Palin's pluck has been admired, and her forthrightness, but her real appeal goes deeper.
She is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his idealism and exhorting people to obey their worst impulses . In psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of "the other." For millions of Americans, Obama triggers those feelings, but they don't want to express them. He is calling for us to reach for our higher selves, and frankly, that stirs up hidden reactions of an unsavory kind. (Just to be perfectly clear, I am not making a verbal play out of the fact that Sen. Obama is black. The shadow is a metaphor widely in use before his arrival on the scene.) I recognize that psychological analysis of politics is usually not welcome by the public, but I believe such a perspective can be helpful here to understand Palin's message. In her acceptance speech Gov. Palin sent a rousing call to those who want to celebrate their resistance to change and a higher vision.
Look at what she stands for:
--Small town values -- a denial of America's global role, a return to petty, small-minded parochialism.
--Ignorance of world affairs -- a repudiation of the need to repair America's image abroad.
--Family values -- a code for walling out anybody who makes a claim for social justice. Such strangers, being outside the family, don't need to be heeded.
--Rigid stands on guns and abortion -- a scornful repudiation that these issues can be negotiated with those who disagree.
--Patriotism -- the usual fallback in a failed war.
--"Reform" -- an italicized term, since in addition to cleaning out corruption and excessive spending, one also throws out anyone who doesn't fit your ideology.
Palin reinforces the overall message of the reactionary right, which has been in play since 1980, that social justice is liberal-radical, that minorities and immigrants, being different from "us" pure American types, can be ignored, that progressivism takes too much effort and globalism is a foreign threat. The radical right marches under the banners of "I'm all right, Jack," and "Why change? Everything's OK as it is." The irony, of course, is that Gov. Palin is a woman and a reactionary at the same time. She can add mom to apple pie on her resume, while blithely reversing forty years of feminist progress. The irony is superficial; there are millions of women who stand on the side of conservatism, however obviously they are voting against their own good. The Republicans have won multiple national elections by raising shadow issues based on fear, rejection, hostility to change, and narrow-mindedness.
Obama's call for higher ideals in politics can't be seen in a vacuum. The shadow is real; it was bound to respond. Not just conservatives possess a shadow -- we all do. So what comes next is a contest between the two forces of progress and inertia. Will the shadow win again, or has its furtive appeal become exhausted? No one can predict. The best thing about Gov. Palin is that she brought this conflict to light, which makes the upcoming debate honest. It would be a shame to elect another Reagan, whose smiling persona was a stalking horse for the reactionary forces that have brought us to the demoralized state we are in. We deserve to see what we are getting, without disguise.

Rat...
Do we conservitives think Pailn has anything over Hillery!, well let's see, Hillery roamed the living quarters of the white house for 8 years, elected senator for no other reason than being billy bj's wife, and failed miserably with her health care bill she promised. She knew it didn't have a chance in he$$!.
I'm sure you have this web site bookmarked but, you missed this article....
Hdam Hanft, from non other than the far left web site, huffington post.
I'm tired of listening to Senator Clinton portray herself as being in the solutions business -- as boasting a nice, fat resume of accomplishments -- while mocking Barack Obama for being a rhetorical empty suit.
Is she truly a beacon of experience? Because I couldn't think of a single piece of legislation that has her name stuck proudly on the front of it, no equivalent of McCain-Feingold, for example, I headed straight for her campaign website to see what glorious aspects of her vaunted experience I was missing.
Actually, I was missing nothing. There is not one single example of any legislation with her name appended to it. In fact, the page devoted to her Senate biography is a mush-mash, a laundry list of good intentions. When she talks about "sponsoring" and "introducing" and "fighting for" legislation that obviously hasn't passed, that's a smokescreen for failure. By introducing all that legislation that never makes it out of committee, she's guilty of what she accuses Senator Obama of: confusing "hoping" with doing.

I am always amazed at the opinions of people that think they are famous. Maybe DeepUpChuck would prefer to have another Jimmy Carter as President!
Reagan will go down in history books as one of the best Presidents of the last century.
