Unbelieveable Redding Hospital Mess
This has been going on for years as Redding Medical Center has competed with Mercy and steadily lost. Then about 6 years ago they were closed down and several top heart surgeons were fired and sued for doing unnecessary heart surgery. They reopened after a year under new management whose top CEO promptly vanished one morning with a huge amount of cash and was found several months later working as CEO in a hospital back East. Another scandal, nurses not paid & etc. Last week the outfit running it declared bankruptcy after making sure they had all of their offices and everything out of state. Now a new group.Prime Health Care Services has taken a lease on the place due to start in two days. They immediately fired most of the Senior Operating Room nurses and others with a lot of seniority and stated that they would get no severance pay or benefits as they didn't have any contract with their union. Two things make me wonder about the legality of this. One, how can they just fire people two days before they actually take over the place? Second I thought that Seniority was supposed to count for something. Boy have things changed since I worked. Then if they laid off it was the people with the least seniority and the ones of us with the most got the first choice at any jobs or locations we may want to go to. Also canceled was all benefits. In other words these people were called into a room and told you are fired and there is no severance package or benefits, good luck. The hospitals owners Medical Properties Trust of Birmingham, Ala., has nothing to do with it as they just lease the place out to anyone who can pay the lease amount. Some of the Senior Operating Room nurses have over 38 years and per their union, God I hate that Word, contract, they are supposed to get one weeks severance pay for each year worked. And also retain health care coverage. Now remember I am only reporting what the news media and news paper had said and watched a few interviews with fired nurses. Personally this place has gone downhill since long before the first non need heart surgery scandals and I feel should be bull dozed to the ground and something worth while put in. At least it will help the Redding economy for a short time as lawyers from all over are wanting in on this and for once I am all for the lawyers. This hospital has been a disgrace to the Medical profession for over 12 years due to greedy and lying doctors and CEOs.
