Exclamation Massachusetts License Renewal

The Massachusetts DMV will no longer mail notifications to drivers when it is time for them to renew their drivers license.

Plus they will be able to suck more money out of us when we get pulled over for any reason and they fine us for having an expired license.

There was a study done in MA that said that almost 40% of all state tax dollars are wasted. Makes you fell all warm and fuzzy. And the idiots just had a chance to eliminate the state taxes here in Taxachusetts, and they voted the referendum down. Stupid bastards.

Too early in the morning to get up a full-scale rant.

Warren,

I saw that they had voted down that referendum to do away with the taxes and wondered what they were thinking. At least the Gay Marriage Initiative here in this state passed. But they really raised the registration on our cars. The one that I received for the 69 Cobra went up $16 dollars from last year. If I didn't drive it once in a while I would Non-Op it.

I think it is a good thing. Take some responsibility for yourselves and check your license and registration on your own dime. I have no interest in paying taxes so that somebody can be mailed a reminder to renew anything because they are too bloody lazy to use their own brains.

And if you are not smart enough to figure out how to track this sort of thing on your own then you deserve the ticket.

Here is a hint: Use your PC to email yourself a reminder.

Bloody hypocrites whine about Obama and then whine about having to actually do something for themselves when the state can no longer afford to hold their hand....

If a pc reminder is as easy as you seem to think why didn't the DMV think of it! Fact of the matter is not everyone has a pc or cell phone be it hard to imagine.

I know plenty of people who don't have them, these licenses are good for 5 years I would like to see you remember that far ahead.....

You're kidding, right?

Massachusetts licences expire on your birthday. Mine happens on 19 Nov every year. It has not changed yet. Before email reminders existed I got in the habit of checking the expiry on 1 Nov every year. Having trouble remembering what day your birthday is? You deserve the ticket, and you probably shouldn't be driving as there are memory skills involved there as well.

And a PC reminder from the RMV is an added expense. Learn to take care of yourself instead of letting the government do it for you.

Wink Actually......

....that only applies if you're a registered Republican, white, or bofe. If you don't speak English, have "just arrived" and/or lack other "documents", then they'll mail a notice to you AND (added benefit!) the mailing will include a voter registration (Dem., o'course), signed pichah of the Teddasaurus shaking paws with Swiftboat, a list of immigration lawyers in your area, and a $500 check to defray any fines, should you be arrested "without", as they say.

As to the other issues, since I'm not too gud at maff, and compootahs are still caopable ofdazzling and confusing me, I haven't beenable to sort out what per cent of those voting to keep the State income tax don't actually pay these taxes anyway.......

Semper sanctified fecal matter!

Ar, etc.

Chow,

Okay smartyyes they do expire on your birthday, but no they don't expire every year therefore the task is to remember what year it is due. How often does one look at their drivers license?

As for the pc reminder how much of an added expense would it be... they already have everyone in the database, when you renew give them your e-mail addy and then renew online every time thereafter. Cost savings all around with this method, hell after one rotatation you could go fully automated layoff all the workers and save a ton of $$!

As for taking care of myself ....well I have been doing that quite well for some 4 decades thank you.

At one time the license renewal was to get you in for an eye test...

Now many states have mail-in renewal so why even have them expire?

Florida just went to 2yr renewals on tags, which is nice.

Seems like a more logical approach is to mandate the driver come in to pay a ticket and get an eye test.

As I said, I look at my licence once every year, about three weeks before my birthday. I just checked it last week. 4 times out of 5 I would not have to do anything except look at my pretty picture.

Regarding the added expense - it depends on how much a software contractor wants to charge for that feature, and how much the bribe is to get the job. Either way, I don't want to pay it.

My tirade was more directed at Warren than you. He has been plastering this site with anti-Obama propaganda for the last few months, and then he whines when he is not going to get his reminder to renew his licence. I'm not pro-Obama or Deval Patrick myself, but I think this cost cutting measure is a good one, and I have to acknowledge Patrick for making a good decision.

I guess the question would be how much cost does it cut?

0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of your states budget, and one less thing they actually have to do for your tax dollar.

Not to mention all the extra revenue the late renewal fees and expired license fines would bring in...

Georgia mails a reminder card and has online renewals, you pay via CC and they use the original photo. I'll always know what I use to look like...........
