She Could Have Thanked Them At Least
I can't believe this woman didn't at least thank the people that returned her life savings.

That would be the normal thing to do but anyone who keeps 10,000 in a box of Crackers is not normal.

Jams,
Around this area anyone that has $10K isn't normal. If it had been my money I would not only have thanked them but would have given them a reward. Also I should have read the article instead of just he headline at first. Anyone interested in 100 boxes of crackers?

Well, strangly enough I have known several sceemingly very smart people that do just that ...put money (cash) into strange places for safe keeping. Example, cash in foil inside the Birdseye box in their freezer, cash hidden in the garage walls, and cash hidden in tight places in their cars (maybe to spend on drugs or pay for services rendered?). Some just have secret bank accounts using the work address...other just carry a big wod of cash to impress.
Your right, they should have atleast offered a reward or maybe a nice dinner out.

She was probably just scared and worried.
Some old folks are kinda particular, I use to visit my grandfather in a old folks home, and it was hard just getting to his room with a lot of them stopping me and wanting candy, or just someone to talk with, one old lady was funny, she would stop me everytime and say, 'get me out of here'.
So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."

10k is a lot regardless of where you are.
I agree Ron, a thank you and reward.
