Default Character actors

Always liked character actors, IMO they don't get the credit they deserve. I remember almost every one.

I like them as well, but were they or are they actually acting? It seems to me that most of them played or play themselves, versus any level of acting. I also think that that is the case relating to leading actors with a few exceptions. I think the draw is that the public likes the real personality (as it's depicted on the screen) of specific actors. Most character actors play or played the same part over and over again - they were wonderful in and well suited for those roles, e.g. bad guy, meek guy, etc.

It's interesting to look through the pictures - I also recall practically all of them and some of the films that they were in.

Interesting site, Thanks for posting! I have been a Public Relations Manager, then an Agent, then a Business Partner for the lifelong Serial/Movie/TV actor- John Hart. John's most famous roles were that of the 1952 TV series "Lone Ranger" & as Hawkeye in "Hawkeye & the Last of the Mohicans" with Lon Chaney Jr as Chingachook. John is now 91 Years young & enjoying sand & suds on the Baja peninsula. John has big ties to the history of our sport. He & his friend Bill Pollack laid out the Willow Springs course back in the early Fifties. Yes, The Lone Ranger staked out Willow Springs Raceway with an old pick-up & laid the course out with wooden stakes! John raced at Chino & at Ralleys all over world. All the early pioneer West Coast racing names know him. John raced several cars (including cobras) but his love was a 1954 TF series MG. Here is a couple interesting links about John: http://members.tripod.com/~JohnHart/recordjh.html & http://members.tripod.com/~JohnHart/index.html
I'm sure many of you members will remember him in a role or two as he played a zillion parts over his Hollywood Career. Anyway, Thanks for the post!
Regards,

Jack Elam described the career of a character actor. "Who's Jack Elam? Get me Jack Elam. Get me a Jack Elam type. Get me a young Jack Elam. Who's Jack Elam?"

My all time favorite western is 'once upon a time in the west', Jack is only in the opening but, what a memorable scene and not a word from him.

Seems like I remember Jack started out as an accountant.
