Global warming idiots evaporating...
According to Rasmussen, 41% believe it's man made, the rest of us already know that's BS. During one occasional visit to the local coffee cafe, the GW debate came up and of course it got a little heated, I simply ask for proof!, and oh boy!... look out.
I was told by 3-4 there is GW and that's just the way it is!.... Really!. I pointed out 400 renowned scientists agreed that GW was simply not true.
Would have accomplished more arguing with the menu.

The guy* who founded the "Weather Channel" was on TV..and....
...he pointed out, with no double-speak, that, since most of the meteorological scientists make their living doing FUNDED research...it was a given that they were going to go along with the ideas/philosophy of those providing the funding. This is almost invariably the fweekin' Federal Gummint!
Therefore, these scientists dig up "corroborative data" which supports GW. Tewwific!
He went on to provide examples at MIT, of all places. Here come (no doubt) the law suits. He said the WHOLE shebang was based on faulty data which purposefully IGNORED evidence from before 1950. H-m-m-m-m-m. Ver-r-r-r-y interesting.
This good ol' planet was founded in a fiery compression "event" AND HAS BEEN COOLING EVER SINCE. The glacial epochs are punctuated with "interstadials" and we're in one now. It's called the Holocene which followed the last Ice Age (Pleistocene). Most bets are that these little "epicycles" of warming and cooling are going to alternate until the next dive into the cold locker.
How much of the recent (10-year) epicycle is due to man's activities? Not much. Grab a look at how some of the data are falsified. Putting recording thermometers near a building's AC exhaust. H-m-m-m-m-m.
At Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute ("WHOI" to us local buffoons), the ice-thickness gurus (part of the Harvard-MIT program) are VERY QUIETLY noticing that a LOT of Arctic and Antarctic ice is ACTUALLY THICKENING. Ooops! And Polar bears are THRIVING.
What with Bill Ayers about to be named Obamanation's new Education Czar----literally oceanic hordes of 3rd and 4th graders will be brain-washed to the GW horse hockey.
Sell yer cobras! The Pinkoes won't let up until we are all on yogurt-powered unicycles!!!!
*I suppose I'm obligated to look up this guy's name----but I bet some of you compootah whizzes can beat me to it without even putting your beer down! Ar-ar-ar

Looks like another 70+ degree day for us today, but they are predicting rain tomorrow. this they have done all winter and so far I have yet to see anything more than a light shower. It did get up to 80 two days ago and I have had to wear a short sleeve shirt the past day or so. It is 36 this morning which is about what it has been the past few mornings. To cold in the early morning to do much and to HOT in the afternoons so I guess I won't do a lot today as usual. Now I just have an excuse for it. We have set several heat records lately.

Al Gore's (far left liberal) claim that ocean levels will rise 20 feet thanks to global warming is PURE trash, IOW..he's a complete idiot. Sad, but there are folks right here who actually believe it!!.
Try this little experiment. Put water and ice into a bowl. Make sure that the water is right up to the brim of the bowl. When the ice melts the water will not rise and overflow the bowl. Don't get a government-funded scientist to do this for you. He will somehow come up with a different result, so do it yourself.
You GW believers can then mail AG and ask him why this is...........

Perry,
I think what the concern is; the pole ice (ancient snow pack) now above sea level.
In other words, fill a glass of water and suspend an ice cube above the glass with a couple of toothpicks. When the cube melts, the glass will flow over. By how much the rise, well that depends on the size of the cube, I guess.
It's pretty hard for us Joe-six-pack guys to really know just what will happen. But I, like a lot of folks, have been looking over my shoulder since real scientists far before Gore-the-spokesperson pointed out the ugly possibility.
Personally, I don't want to be wrong on this. Even if it can't be proven. If it never happens and we take extraordinary painful steps, we'll still never know. I feel a tug on my short-hairs. What leverage, it never happens and some folks could cheer, "we won, we won!". They can cheer at the end of "never".
But I'm kind of geeky. My brother is an amateur astronomer and I even have a couple of small scopes. I used to watch NOVA Cosmos when Carl Sagen was still alive. There they discussed why Venus was so hot and why other planets had different atmospheres with wild temperatures. I think I understand "greenhouse effect" regarding other planets might affect earth.
No doubt, some of the GW science is sound thinking. But the science of predicting tommorrows weather is sound, and they don't even always get that right. But they' seem to be getting better.
Like some soul said, "We don't inherit earth from our parents; we borrow it from our children."
So now it's "for the chillen". S**t. Feel that tug?
Wes

Good one, Perry.
I didn't make myself too clear. The principle you first listed above is that any floating ice doesn't displace any more floating volume when it melts because it weighs the same, frozen or not.
The ice that sits on land or is stacked higher than float level on the continental shelf does increase sea level ...if it actually melts.
I've always thought of this snowmelt (cubemelt) as run-off and rain derived from condensed vapor.
But, although some things fall out of the sky ...the whole sky is not falling.
Like you, I find it hard to believe that sea water would rise very dramatically.
How much "tall" ice can there be?
Wes

Freddie,
Wouldn't doubt off-shore accounts. Al-Baby has never lifted more than a piece of paper nor pushed that more heavy than a pencil.
His forte is apparently benefitting off ways to make mouth-money while somebody else pays. Link?
...must be HUGE toot'picks!!!!!!
The toothpicks don't have to be large, just two for every cubic inch of ice. We can buy the wood from Scott.

I have a better idea.
All things given the total amount of carbon or water on earth is static, unless a huge comet hits and then we are basically fubar anyway.
I have a solution, the human body holds around ten gallons of water, the average house contains nearly 25 tons of carbon.
We need to double the amount of humans on the planet which would lower the ocean levels. The humans would need homes which would capture carbon.
The houses would need to be made of wood(virgin WOOD of course).
I get to kill the trees producing the virgin wood and therefore meet my goal of doubling my carbon footprint.
And we all get more sex...

Jay, the cow across the road....
.........just moot!
Say, your statement about an F4U at an ultralight convention is just plain HYSTERICAL. My (step) uncle used to fly those babies out of Guadalcanal and Bougainville. He said that they were the "fastest prop planes in the War". He claimed that he could flat RIP through flocks of Mitsubishi "Zeros" and frequently hit 485 knots in LEVEL FLIGHT at sea-level. "Easily". No preliminary shallow dive or similar stunts. Just firewalling the throttle. Oddly, he ended up flying P-51s against MiGs, for a while in 1950. Oooooooops!
Wright Cyclones were some kind of powerplant, by all indications.

I have no idea if global warming is real or not. We can all hypothesize all we want about the temperature today or tomorrow, here or there, but that has nothing to do with anything, as that is little more than a fart in a wind storm. What is important is the overall average temperature of the planet over a span of quite a few years. This average temperature is either increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. If it is increasing, then we have global warming. The question then is why is the temperature increasing? Is it part of some normal cycle or is it a man-made phenomenon. I have no idea what the answers are but I sincerely do believe that there are already far too many people on this planet.
