Default The widely hearalded Nissan GTR turns out to be a POS

The GTR is apparently blowing out all of its transmissions when people do a launch in "Launch Mode" with the traction control off for maximum acceleration. The problem is that the Black box in the car records the fact that you used "Launch Mode" and Nissan voids your warranty. They make you pay $20K for a new transmission. The car is advertised to run 0 - 60 in 3.5 with the Launch mode on, except by using it, you void your warranty. With Launch mode off, the car runs 0 - 60 in the mid 4s and adds a full second to its quarter mile time.

Check out this article and also the video, Move the video to the 1/2 way make to bypass the other stuff:

A brand new GTR (which cost its owner a fortune to get here) just got its doors blown off by a shade tree mechanic's beat up ol' Mitsubishi Lancer at the local drag races that the Skyline owner organized to show off his new weapon.

That is pathetic. Either you are going to build a "race car" with no warranty and let everybody know, or you are going to build a street car and sell it as such.

What a bunch of scum bags Nissan is being.

What bothers me is the black boxes in cars. And it's not only Nissan that is doing it.

I bet within a year data from a black box will be used to convict someone in a trial.

My daughter-N-laws Nissan is just a few miles out of warrenty and the timing chain tensioner failed. The chain looped bellow the crank gear and let the pistons beat up on the valves.

Technically they were correct to say it is out of warrenty and offer no help or assistence in any way. Yep well within their legal rights. However this is a common failure on their engines for years, we have learned. I plan to advertise for them as much as I can.

Silverback51 ... its already happened . About a year ago down in Beaufort , SC a man was convicted on evidence from his on board computer in an accident . It seems that the computer records/stores data if there is a deployment of the airbags ... and this guys story about his speed etc was way off from what the " black box " said . What I don`t know is whether it was the Insurance company or the police that introduced the data .

It has already happened here. Some guy decided to commit suicide by hitting an oncoming car head on. He lived (the idiot didn't deactivate his air bags) but the people in the other car were killed. The black box proved that he put the gas to the floor seconds before the impact took place. He is charged with vehicular homicide. In this case, the black box evidence is probably a good thing.

Default Think the Nissan people are reading this

288 people have read this but not many posts. I bet a lot of ricers got wind of this.

Bet they are not happy to learn that their rice car is a Piece Of Junk.

The transmission failures on the new GTR's have been getting a fair bit of press. The car has a high profile because of its heavily touted performance right out of the box. Some of the Japanese performance cars like the Subaru WRX and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution offer amazing performance for a very reasonable price. A little EVO right out of the showroom can flat destroy almost all of the classic muscle cars from the good ol' days in every performance category without breaking a sweat.

Not my cup o' tea, but they don't bother me either. Some people laugh at our "kit car" hobby, some of us have an issue with "ricers". I say who the hell cares? To each his own. As long as its got wheels and is built to go fast, its ok by me.
