Default Chevy 267 engine

I just wanna ask some of you chevy guys here, a non cobra related question.

The Chevy 267 engine, it has same stroke as 350 but smaller bore size. Does it have enough wall thickness to rebore to 4.00" and run as a 350ci motor?
Is there any major flaws to this other than just getting a 350 block?
Will performance SBC engine part work with this engine.
Im asking this for a friend, im not a chevy guy really.

Thanks Guys

267?, you mean 265, and followed by the 283. Nope! don't know anything about them, blue oval here.

If you are referring to the first small block V 8 the 265 then 350 inches is not possible. The 265 was a very different casting than the old 350. I am saying old because the newest 350 or SB2 also has casting changes. The short answer is no but blocks are cheap and many available.

While I believe the strength and popularity of the chebbie small block was its ability to mix and match internals the generation of these internals is a consideration. The 265 engine did not incorporate an oil filter as just a quick way to identify. Crankshaft and block changes were needed to get stroke and bore variations but all with 2 crank generations of small or large bearing diameters. Playing with rod lengths, bore and stroke the internal balanced assembly allows many possible bolt together options.

As the cubic inch displacement of the engine got bigger 265 - 283 - 302 -327 with small crank pins (generation changes) = 327 with bigger crank pins - 350 - 400. There were also some other versions with a mix of internals or block casting = 305 - 307.

I'm thinking that BMBC is talking about that fine, fine 267 that Chevy put into the Monzas in the mid-70's. My '75 Monza was originally a 267. No info about them, but never heard of one going fast.

Ohhh the old 1979 to 1981 2 bolt 3.500 bore HOT ROD. The step sister to the 262 no doubt.

B.M.B.C ,

You probably already know this by now since the thread is so old, before I got back to it, but:

I don't think the 267 is a good candidate. The bore is way too small to over-bore to 4 inches. Small bore engines don't have room for decent sized valves to open (they hit the block) for good rpm hotrod breathing, so you really do need a large bore for large valves.

This link demonstrates this without me looking it up from my library.
