This is for real....

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape."

Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

Not really Mikey. Just because some try to use it that way doesn't make it a racist term. John Wiley Price is a certified ignoramus, but no more so than the angry old farts who keep bit**ing and puking up race-related garbage; maybe to lighten up their lives by provoking a reaction, or because having a black commander in chief really does stick in their craw. Either way, I feel their pain.

Ron61...it should be obvious by now (as it evidently was when you posted it) that the Beavis and Butthead fan club ain't gonna let you get away with anything resembling a serious scientific discussion concerning black holes.

I'm pretty sure the same would true about Uranus.

I personally do not like being compared to Beavis and Butthead, so I will take a stab at steering it back on course.

When you read about things like this, it's almost impossible to really wrap your mind around it. The shear size, and power of something like this is unbelievable. Kind of like being a kid for the first time and seeing the ocean. Hard to believe you cannot see the other side.

I don't remember this for sure, but if I remember right, doesn't a black hole continue to grow and finally reaches a point where it collapses upon itself, or does it just continue to grow?

At the bottom of the written story about the black hole was a video clip
that explained it and gave a glimpse of what it may look like.
Interesting stuff and when you look at the sheer size and density of these
things it makes you feel just a little bit small in comparison.

It would be interesting to play a mind game and imagine yourself standing on one (without being affected by it). Would it be round like a planet? I think so... why would there be any other preferential shape? And, just what would things look like since light gets sucked in? Would we look all warped? Maybe like those mirrors at that carnival?

And if it really does collapse on itself, where does it go? Wouldn't it continue to suck more stuff in? Conservation of mass is one of the cornerstones of physics. Even Einstonian physics (not so sure about Quantum physics, but then, who is?) SO maybe it becomes pure energy (think atom bomb) and the products condense into new matter. Hmmm. Then one day, a being on one of those chunks of condensed matter looks up into the heavens and begins to wonder...

Maybe someone is on the OTHER side of the black hole, and sees all this planetary "stuff" come flying out of HIS black hole, and wonders "Where is all this stuff coming from?"
