Mmmm back from serious to...

Great to get out and burn down the freeway, everyone thinking you are cool..

That is until a hot headed cop pulls you up and gives you an icy look as he writes a ticket....

That's climate change from fun to serious in a flash..

Hi BMK!
I have read and appreciated many of your posts.
However, you do not know me, nor have you ever met me.
Lets leave it at that.
Thanks

JBCOBRA

Did I miss something here..

Maybe you need to PM me and tell me what you are talking about.

Sure 'I do not know you and have never met you'..

But what has that got to do with your 'Posts' and my 'Posts' here..

Unless I have missed something this is a 'Lounge' and you will get replies to your 'Posts' here.

Our Prime Minister received a cool reception when he responded to climate change questions yesterday.

Got a few news reporters hot under the collar..

Seems his Minister would like to keep the topic off the boil as they seek answers to questions asked.

Seems the Minister would like to keep the public out in the cold on any decisions made.

...good to keep on eye on this hot topic.

Nice wording Bernie. I am not sure if there is anything to this, but yesterday I saw a news report that some scientists are saying the wind is starting to slow down all over the world and wind mills may not be an answer to power generation if the wind goes away. But they also stated that it would take many years of study to actually determine if this is happening. And of course one of them had to blame the speculated loss of wind on Global Warming.

Ron,

I still think that I'm doing my bit here. The water tanks are full and I use them for the pool and the two gardens. I keeping just ahead of the rain so the water excess is not running down the street.

I have reduced power use with the installation of motion sensors and different globes.

That are about two hundred globes now in across the stores and storage areas.

Anne replaced all the globes here at home and it has really improved the light quality and reduced costs. Her new diesel runs about 65mpg so she has a few more dollars for shopping..

The wind generators are starting to pop here a lot. There are 140 of them down the road from the Mt. Gambier restaurant. It is starting to look busy on the horizon. Most are on the ocean edge and cliffs.

I am not sure if the grid can handle the power I think they lock the blades once the grid is full.

I have stopped all watering at the restaurant and had landscapers install gardens that have low water needs.

I had better do my bit at the restaurant or I may find myself in trouble...

Bernie,

That is great. By the way, are they using the old style wind mills or the new style that looks like a 130 foot long squirrel cage that is mounted vertically and spins around a pole? That seems to be the coming thing is discussions around here as it has no blades to kill birds and generates the same amount of power as the other style. Also looks cleaner and they can be mounted closer together. Now the big fight is the environmentalists who wanted this type to start with don't want them to put any power lines to them as they would have to cut a right of way through the forests. Those people should just get in their big SUVs and go back where they came from.

I wish we had enough water to worry about overflow. We are already paying a drought surcharge and I don't think they are going to limit the water yet, but if you go over a set amount the price is beyond belief.

By golly, you will save the planet yet in spite of the rest of us.

Ron

Ron,

The windmills are the new style. They are transported in and assembled on site with large cranes. Most are the three blade type - and do look like that squirrel cage - and are very high.

We have managed even through the drought to keep the tanks filled. Now the rain has kept them over flowing. The biggest impact on us is the amount of water that had been running of the roof and down the street previously...

Most of the wind generators have underground lines back to sub stations that are well hidden - a planning requirement.

I'm not sure on the environmental thing, as we do not have large numbers of them yet.

Take care

Bernie,

sounds like you have enough water at least. Wish I could say the same for here. We now have a $3 a month drought surcharge on our water bills and next month it will go to $5 per month.

There is a big fight going on right now over a wind farm they have planned for one of the mountains East of here. First the wind mills would ruin the view, which you need binoculars to see. Now it is that it will ruin the forest as they would have to cut a swath for the power lines. Most of the complaints are being filed by the same groups who complain all summer long about the brown outs.
