A freak accident and I hope that he will come through it ok. They have great medical personnel at those races. Remember a few years ago when one of the drivers had both of his legs torn off and they saved him.

That was Alex Zanardi in a CART car in Germany.

The next year he came back with hand controls in the car to finish the last few laps that he did not finish due to his accident.

At home I have a picture that was taken at the moment of impact. You can see parts of his legs in the air. He was one lucky driver to have survived.

Right. I saw him on TV some time ago and he was walking pretty well on the prosthetic legs they had made for him. He was pretty upbeat about the whole thing and was doing well.

That was a nasty crash. The pictures showing the awesome force of the 200 mph impact and the horrific trauma to Zanardi himself can be seen on Google. A doctor's split-second decision to bypass on-site care and fly him straight to a trauma center saved his life. His indomitable spirit and return to finish the 12 laps of that race 2 years later are equally astounding.

Wink

...

Bill,

There is only one thing they can do to make this safe. They will have to eliminate wheels and suspension.

The cars will all have to be rebuilt to hovercraft specification and the tracks will have to be rebuilt extremely banked.

Wait! They already have this. It's called "pylon racing".

Wes
