Steve,

He was running away with the race and Johnson couldn't catch him so they penalized him for speeding in the pits to let Johnson get the win. He was doing .11 MPH to fast according to NASCAR. With the lead he had and no car close to his he could have backed off some and still won easily. Unless NASCAR could have came up with something else to penalize him for.

Ron,
Having the pleasure of watching the race live (exit of turn 4/enterance into pit lane), it was amazing how Montoya destroyed the field...until he got into traffic. His car was really bad as it trailed the pack after his penalty. I don't doubt he and others were speeding coming into the pits though. I didn't have a radar gun, but you could really see the guys who waited to the last possible moment to slow down (and got caught) verse the guys who would slow way down before entering the pits (and not get caught speeding). In everyone's defense, the track is tough to get off the race line, slowed down and into the pits w/o getting either killed or fined. But, IMO...Montoya got a penalty that was earned, he had plenty of laps left to make up the penalty, but his car just wasn't good in traffic.

on the telecast they said there were 7 sections on pit road that they were timeing the cars and Montoya was caught speeding comeing in and goeing out in two different sections but they also said they had a light on the dash of the cars and if the light stayed green they were o.k. Montoyas light stayed green all the way through the pits.............so who knows.

With the lead he had, he never had to push it to get into the pits. He would have came out ahead anyway. But I find it hard to believe that from the 2nd pit stall to the line he was speeding. I later heard that changed to he was speeding on two of the loops coming in. From the 1st or 2nd pits it would be hard to get up enough sped to be to fast as the line is just past the 1st pit. No matter, he blew it by getting in to big of a hurry and with NASCAR wanting Johnson to win.

From what I understand about the light in the car is they set a light attached to the tach to a specific RPM to get their speed. Nascar allows a 5mph window, some set the light close to that limit, which with 750++HP, set the light at say...58mph, twitch your right big toe and now you're over by 5.11

Bob,

NASCAR has been nothing but a big version of wrestling for the past few years. How many times has Johnson had a bad car and bee about to go a lap down and suddenly they had one of their phony debris cautions. What really irked me about them was listening to the mouths in the booth brag about Johnson and how he really got a break and now they would get that car fixed. I will watch the final round of Golf today and if there are any road races on, that is what I will watch. Otherwise I may watch the Cup Parade.

Hmm! Seems to me that there's to much of the comspiracy theory here other than NASCAR is getting way too boring. Kyl Busch (great driver) is a hot head baby and so is Montoya. Just watch these guys from week to week and they keep losing because they act like little kids and make dumb mistakes.

On the other hand Hendricks Motorsports has the most money, best teams, best engines and the better drivers. Just look at Mark Martin having an outstanding year and the other Hendricks drivers are right in there except for Dale, but he got the name.
You can bash Jimmiy Johnson, but he must be doing something right to keep winning in points and placing near the top each week, he is very cool and doesn't tear up his ride.
Look at Tony Stewart.......running Hendricks motors...doing great.

No matter what NASCAR does, to me the big tracks are way too boring,.... the starts and the last 100 laps are the only parts worth watching,.... it gives me time to switch to something more exciting like Cops or the Cooking channel.

Bill (love short tracks)

Bill,

I like the short tracks also and a week or so ago saw what I thought was the best NASCAR race in years in the Nationwide Series at a short track. It seemed more like racing as every car could pass any other and it was actually interesting to me. The big tracks are just high speed parades, but I do like the double row start they have begin using. And I did watch the pick up race last night to see how Hornaday would do. He won his record 5th race in a row. But I for the most part lost any real interest in NASCAR when they decided to start mandating everything from springs to shocks and then built their own car. I wish they would have more of the American LeMans series races and also bring back the old Trans Am series.

Rick,

It is hard for me to find a Cam Am race on TV up here. They used to show all of the old Trans Am Series.

I watched the Buick Open Golf Tournament yesterday and forgot about the race until I heard it had been rained out. I just don't like the big track high speed parades with all of the gushing about how Johnson is so great and he is going to win his 4th straight title. Wonder if Helton wrote the script for that.

Did you watch the Discovery Channel, HDT: "Why We Race: Mustang Challenge" ? Great semi-pro racing in late model mustangs.

Ron, the golf and Baja 1000 yesterday was better than 90% of the NASCAR races. I wish the Mustang Challenge was what was going on in NASCAR.

Anyway, I still like NASCAR...it just needs some major changes to keep it interesting.

Bill

Oh Ya Ron, that nationwide race at O'Rielly Park was with out question the best race I've seen all year....actually fun to watch some real racing.

Additonal factold, My wife used to "baby sit" Ron Hornaday back in the early 60's, His fther was a stock car racer for Galpin Ford in So. Calif. My wifes dad was one of the drunkin mechanics for their team.

Bill,

I would like NASCAR more if they actually ran real cars and let the owners set them up. Keep the safety and other good rules, but get out of designing cars and telling everyone what springs, shocks, and so forth they can run. I like the short track races because that is the only place they really race. But I will always like road racing of any kind better.

Bob,

Then you are more of a Golfer than I am. I have never been on a golf course. I watch because I would like to see Tiger break the record. Same with other sports that I don't follow. If anyone is getting close to a record I will start watching to see if they can break it. Not to many chances to beak long standing records and I enjoy watching when they are broken.

Ron...With some of the records that are being broken these days, It would be something to see for sure but dosen't it make you wonder with some of the things that have happened in the recent past that these records are being falsley set? now i'm not pointing any fingers or nameing any names and i'm not saying that there aren't people that are capable of breaking or setting new records but dosent it make you wonder if there isn't something else behind it like steroids, piles of cash,or maybe just ratings for a tv show or maybe i'm just crazy and over think things to much.............

Bob,

I don't think you are crazy at all for that. Look at baseball and their mess. And I am sure most other pro sports have the same crap going on. NASCAR and Mayfield have a running feud or did until he tested positive again for meth. The courts then re-instated his ban. The ones that take Steroids will pay dearly in later life as their joints start to fall apart.

I've never done steroids and my joint is falling apart..LOL..and i guess that's what i mean when i say are these records really being broken or set by someone capable of doing so...Baseball,Football,Basketball heck even Horse raceing has had steroid problems so how can one really be sure that "something" hasent interfered with the outcome of some of these momentus occasions...the truth lies with the person thrying to set or break that record and we may never know the truth........
