A well known runner, tiathlete, bike racer here in northern Alabama was killed several days ago by a girl reaching for her cell phone while she was driving.

Perhaps, perfectly innocent. But if I was walking around with a loaded gun in my pocket that went off and killed somebody (ala Plaxico) do you honestly think I would be sitting at home watching the news? Yet that is where she is.

We still have not gotten to the point where we (most of us) agree that cell phone useage and driving can be a very dangerous combination.

However, you can not easily legislate this one. What will be the test? (like the sobriety test)? Most with good lawyers will get out of it. Right Jamo?

Make all new vehicles with a shield that is activated so the cell phones won't work in them while the engine is running. This stuff is out of control around here and even in the stores women are running their baskets into other people while shouting on their cell phones to let everyone know how important they are. Last report was that more than 66% of our accidents, both minor and major were caused by people on cell phones or texting while driving. One woman drove into a house that was 40' off the the street while texting her friend that she had gotten a new phone. No one was killed but the elderly woman that lived in the house and her husband were both injured as they were watching TV and the vehicle came through the wall and hit the couch they were sitting on. And the woman driving the car wasn't even given a ticket.
The local DA is fast losing ground here for his refusal to prosecute cases that have involved everything from bar fights and a man dying as a result of one, to refusing to prosecute a pick up driver who ran a red light and hit a woman in a crosswalk. His excuse, he just doesn't believe he can get a convection.

So they are getting together to plan to come up with a plan. SOP for this admin. They are planning to have a plan for everything. But all the plans are still being planned.

I suggest that "Ming The Merciless" (from Flash Gordon fame), conduct court for these kind of offenses. While Ming might wrinkle his eye brows and twist his scragly chin whiskers...pause and say, " You will be put to death for your crimes, but first I want to compliment you on your extensive knowledge as a earth human, you should take comfort in that compliment and enjoy it before I put you to death".....Next!

Folks that drive and talk /text on the phones need to be dealt with ASAP before Mings court gets too backed up.

Livin in a dream, Bill
