Every time I look at the news I want to get my Conceal carry more!!!

Isn't it sad that everytime I look a tthe news, I want to get my conceal carry permit more and more??? These people just going into places and shooting people with no real motive is scary!!!

So, I'm pretty sure that I will get my permit when i go home for vacation in October. I plan to carry a S&W 9mm M&P compact. Small, comfortable, light...

Get something that is absolutely dependable....learn how to use it... I have a revolver....wouldn't have a auto...

But in the pocket door of my pick-up I carry a 45 auto, you never know when you gotta shoot through the door.

Well we just had a big mess here with the CCP permits. It seems that anyone that paid for theirs in cash when they went in the past couple of years, one of the women working at the Sheriff's department was issuing a permit and then pocketing the cash and not registering the permit. I am ok as I always pay by check, but now they have had to notify a big bunch of people that their permits aren't legal. They can go by the Sheriff's department and they will correct it and it costs nothing but is just more time wasted. Things around here are getting bad.

Couple years back in a local town here the Judge's wife was pocketing money from speeding tickets & other moving violations & not recording the violations with the State. The nice part was the State wasn't notified of the tickets so no points on a license. I know about it as my wife had gotten a speeding ticket & sent a money order. Never had any points on her license & the court never requested the part of the license needed to record the violations. It was a few months later & a State Police Investigator contacted my wife & we then found out about the scam. Anyway, a similar situation to the Pistol Permit one & thought I would mention for your reading enjoyment!

That law officers simply cannot protect you and yours, it is simply not possible, so you should(?) take the necessary steps to protect yourself. Even if you make every effort to avoid the bad times, the bad places and the bad people there are still random acts of merciless violence comitted by sub humans every day in the most unimaginable places.... churches, schools, campgrounds, malls..stop lights....etc... A revolver will almost always work..even when it is dirty it will fire..they seldom jam.... a gun that doesn't work might be more dangerous than no gun at all.

And...if sheer penetrating power is what you crave, revolver magnum calibers deliver far more than anything available in regular semi-autos. Don't forget about the potential risks asssociated with over penetration though.

PS: .45ACP is not that great of a penetrator by the way.

Mine is a 44 and I take it with me when I hike as it will at least (I hope) make enough noise to scare off any threat...by the way, if you are a hiker, you should ALWAYS keep the kids in sight and close at hand...sorry for the nanny bit.

Bartruff, if more people paid attention to the "nanny bits" there would be far fewer tragic stories every year for the anti-gun folks to use as proof of how evil guns are.

Yeah, that's why the Army, Navy, Marines, and most police departments carry autos. They're just a whole lot less likely to run up against trouble than someone riding around in their pickup.

Geez, don't be so lazy. Spend a little money and accurize your auto. Clean your weapon regularly. I'd rather have 12 chances than 6.

On the subject of CCW I had a funny thing happen last month. I had been at our regular monthly poker fest and on the way home ran into a DUI check just south of Lees Summit. I saw it quite a ways ahead so before I got there I had fished out my wallet and had it sitting on the dash of the Corvette. Now I've carried for a long long time because my cousin is the county sheriff and I had a deputy card long before our great CCW law came along. As I pulled up in line a very cute female cop and a male cop came up. The female asked me if I had been drinking and I told her yes that I had one beer at 7:00 and one at 9:00 (it was 2:30 in the morning). She asked to see my license, registration and proof of insurance. I fished my license and CCW card out of the wallet and handed them to her. She asked if I had a weapon on me and I told her that I did, it was in a holster inside the waistband of my pants. She asked me to relinquish it to her so keeping one hand on the steering wheel I opened the door and carefully stepped out, unsnapped the holster and released the magazine while still in the holster, handed her the magazine, took the weapon out and ejected the shell from the chamber and handed it to her. Just about then the male cop started to unload on me telling me he couldn't understand why people carried weapons, that only the cops should have weapons as they were trained to use them and blah blah blah. He kind of stopped to get his breath so I politely asked him how many gunfights he had ever been in. He kind of blustered and told me that he was proud that he had never had to draw his weapon in the line of duty. That's great I told him because it's something you really don't ever want to have happen to you. Sneeringly he asked me how many I had been in. He was somewhat taken aback when I told him more than the fingers on both hands and that with that experience behind me it was pretty well documented that my situational awareness was such that at least I could be depended on to not shoot any friendlies unlike guys that just sat around talking about it at the donut shop. With that he almost went ballistic and turned around and walked off ranting the entire way. The cute female cop had been standing there chuckling and handed me my weapon back thanking me for the warning and told me that I could go on my way. As I got back in the car she leaned over to the window and apologized for her partner. Her last words were........"He's such a dick." I was still laughing when I got home.

There is always debate on the gun forums as to whether to bring it right out that you are carrying. pretty sure i would make it known. just because if i were the officer, I'd rather know from point A rather than find out after i ask you to get out of the car or such.

My cuz the sheriff in this county and his brother who was sheriff in the next county south both agree that you should calmly either hand them your permit or tell them. I know if I was a police officer I would want to know just so I wasn't startled.

Not sure about other States but in Texas you are required by law to hand over your Permit when a LEO asks for an ID.

Also in Texas,you can carry a concealed handgun(s) in your car/truck/motorcycle/motorhome without a Permit and are not required to tell a LEO if pulled over, if not asked.

When I was younger I carried a sawed off 12 ga shot gun under my pickup seat for a while. When I inquired about whether it was legal in ND, I was told that it constituted a concealed weapon and could be cause for arrest. Took it out, pronto. At the same time, it was rather common to have a full size rifle or shotgun behind the truck seat for hunting access. Racks were unpopular because that could result in a busted window and lost rifle. I didn't have a pistol permit, and never have gotten one, although I later considered it from a standpoint of transporting an out-of-sight handgun to-and-from a firing range.

In the case of the handgun, I found that as long as the pistol was in a locked case, it could be legally kept out of sight in my vehicle, which is what I do now for rare transport. Kind of useless for personal protection this way. As for the sawed off shotgun, the previous owner had left the barrel at 18½ inches which was just longer than the 18 inch legal minimum. The stock was cut to a pistol grip. But my LEO source told me it might be legal but would likely be frowned upon. ND does not ever allow a round in the chamber inside a vehicle that I know of. When we hunt, we have to chamber a round upon exit to be ready , but the magazine can be pre-loaded.

There is far less reason for carry personal protection here in ND than some parts of the country. The one time I would like to carry is when on vacation to less safe areas of the USA. But that doesn't work too well legally across state lines, right now. I personally think tourists are chosen pickings, with the perp knowing the likelyhood of them being unarmed.

The next time a friendly amendment-rights politician gets in, I wish they could do something to make available a federal permit that would be good anywhere. The perp would have to think twice about tourists that may be armed, good for all, armed and unarmed alike.

PA is similar as far as a round in chamber. Letting a LEO know you are carrying is a courtesy to them, and IMO a safety measure for yourself. If there are LEO's that would taze a 90yo woman... they sure as hell wouldn't hesitate to hit me if they see a weapon that i had disclosed.

The only person ever to pull a pistol on me was a young police officer. I was pulled over at 3:30 AM on my way to work and gave the officer my DL and CCP. He asked for insurance and registration, as I opened the glove box to get the paperwork he saw the revolver in the box and shouted gun! I thought oh cr*p and turned to look at his glock inches from my face. Another officer jerked me out of my PU and jacked me up against the hood then asked why I didn't tell them I had a weapon. I told the officer to look at the CCP in his hand and the shuffling and mumbling started....the apologies came profusely and I was sent on my way.

At the time I was serving on the local 911 board with the chief of that small town, he had a hand written apology for me when I got home that evening.
