America Wants Reform!
When Obama says "America wants health care reform" just who the hell is he talking about? The 52% landslide that elected him? What about the 48% who opposed him? What do they want? I am sick and tired of hearing that "America wants this". America wants no such thing! Yes, a percentage does. But a very large percentage does not.
Has our system morphed into a version of taxation with out representation? It would seem so to me. How this can happen is when the number of represenatives (and Senators) presents a small ratio to the population. We need finer granularity in the House and Senate. The Senate alone probably drives this 50% thing more than any other factor. Maybe it is time to consider ammendments to the constitution to increase the number of senators.
I am tired of taxation without represenatation. Not in my state mind you, my senators do represent my views. But I am sure others in my state would like to see more liberal Senators.
How in the world can 100 Senators represent fairly the viewpoints of tax payers when our population approaches 500,000,000 or even a billion? Its insane. And it is exactly why we have a polarized country. Large population centers elect liberal Senators. But the size of our country insures for the time being a realtively stable split in the Senate. That will not last.

Do you want NO reform at all? Is that your point? Stay the course, no changes, let the medical care costs continue to rise unabated?
I think it's clear the VAST majority of Americans do indeed what "reform" of some kind.

I have clearly stated what I want reformed. Tort law and competiton for insurance companies (cross state borders). That is a clearly stated position. The Fair Tax should also be added to the list. Those 3 things will do more psoitive for the future of this country than any health care reform bill currently under consideration.
If Obama makes it through 8 years, his current policies will put us on a trajectory of goverment cost being about 85% of GDP. That is, you get to work till mid November for all your "free" stuff.

Your right, I do recall your position on that. Good call. Those three things you mention, in my opinion ARE "health care reform", or at least an important part of it.

Reform is agood thing, but "throwing out the baby with the wash is the wrong approach".
Reform the insurance companies, the rules for coverage and control the drug costs through competitiion.
Stop doctor's from operating side businesses that market products that they choose for you to use before and after surgeries, many are unnecesary.
Standardize services and fees, and develop a minimal coverage private policy for folks that can't afford the top of the line insurance.
In addition, stop free medical to all illegal's...too bad , so sad!
Don't have the government pay for any new program it can't afford.
The list can go on foerever.

We also need to "reform" this notion that you can be lazy and unemployed (or illegal) and have the same benefits as a guy who lays bricks for 40 hours a week. "Unemployed" is supposed to be a temporary condition, not a permanent position.

I have said the following for many years: "When you pay people to do nothing, they become very good at it".

"Become a liberal, its easier than working"
Real reform would include EXCLUDING illegals from government issued benefits. For sure. The list could go on. The problem for liberals is that NONE of my points works with their goals.... and that is to build a loyal voter base. "Free" health care creates more democrat voters. After it is enacted, the talking point will be "those nasty republicans are trying to take YOUR health care away.
Out current tax system insures a steady line of democrat voters. If you make 50K a year with four kids and a wife, who are you going to vote for? Not somebody that will level the playing field. Nope. Keep soaking the big earners. That way you don't actually have to try to improve yourself or your situation.

Amerians want the health care system tweaks, probably 100 tweaks.
Also, it's been stated that 20% of the Medicare/Medicaid costs are from fraud - what about fixing that first.
Another interesting question - Can the Federal Government legally force citizens to buy health insurance under the constitution? Can they fine those that don't buy?
I seriously doubt that Obama would get 52% if the election was held today.
