Hmmm, I thought it was a rather prescient piece. But I do not understand how that with criticisms sown in of their own political system could make it into Pravda. Other than that, the author is spot on.
There used to be a poster on the wall at a defense firm I once worked at. It was a long, rambling speech given by that boot slamming demigogue at the UN. Name evades me. But the jist of it was, if we cannot beat them covertly or militarily, we will do it from within their own systems.
He has turned out to be a very good prophet. Sheeple, that's what we have collectivley become. Celebrate Ernie. Party hard. Maybe one day you will get to see the uprising against this soft, but powerful tyranny.
Good find Map.

Not even close to being "spot on". The author is on a soap box ranting about the decline of America based on McDonalds, TV, our education system, tax system, wall street and the decline of religion. While ANY of the above talking points could be argued as "declining" or "needs work" or "whatever" NONE of the above points, individually or collectively, reach the level of a "descent into Marxism". Not even close.
The sky is not falling. Our Government remains strong. Marxism is not "just around the corner". Freedom of speech abounds. Liberities are and will continue to be protected in our democratic land. We are not headed to communism, socialism or Marxism with "breath taking speed." It seems I have a lot more faith in America than many of the "doom sayers" around here! And enough common sense to take a Ruskie's rant about the failure of America with a grain of salt.

Right on Ernie. Capitalism is alive. The market has heard your demands and responded.

CVS stores began stocking the special edition Chia in select markets this week, according to the company that produces it -- just in time for the holiday season.

What you say sounds familiar. Where have I heard something like what you said?
I've got it! It was "Baghdad Bob" announcing total victory by Saddam's army.

Ernie,
Pravda tends to exaggerate to make their point, but Fox and CNN do the same, while managing to leave out crucial bits of information needed to properly understand the context of a situation.
In this case, education in America has been taking a turn for the worst, but it is not Obamas or GWBs fault. Teachers are teaching new math (have any of you ever tried it? I helped a friends daughter with it because I get math better than they do - it's, ummm, interesting.), not failing kids, and worrying about getting sued for allowing prayer and teaching Darwin.
And this is parents fault for not allowing kids to fail, and thinking that your kid is 'special' rather than 'needs help' It is also parents fault for making sure their kids win at sporting events by tripping the other team players, and not allowing their kids to learn honour and good sportsmanship by losing gracefully.
By properly teaching kids how to lose, and that not everybody wins, they will learn that winning is better than losing, and that just showing up does not count as winning.
We also have to watch religion. I dislike religions for a variety of reasons, but there are also some good qualities to many of them. Most religions have the same basic tenets that we have used to form part of our laws. Murder and stealing do not go over very well in most cultures, but we seem to think that a guy who robs a 7-11 of $100 should get hard time, but the guy who steals millions should get a comfy club fed sentence. I would rather our politicians be guided by the basics of their religion and our laws whilst doing their job, and save the preaching for their own private worship.
We (well, most of you, actually - I usually don't vote for incumbents) keep re-electing the same corrupt people and somehow expect things will be better. Sounds like insanity to me.
But Obama will not convert this country to marxism/socialism - there is simply too much money at stake, and there are not yet enough people with nothing to lose.
Steve

Well there it is Steve. You can take ANY of the talking points from the Op Ed piece and they are worthy of discussion and analysis.
...but their not an indicator of a rapid slide into Marxism!

Steve and Ernie your world view obviously allow you to feel more comfortable with the change this present administration wants, along with the radicals with which he surrounds himself, and his general attitude toward America. Many of us are alarmed, after all this President is making more left hand turns then a NASCAR driver.

Actually it's not about what feels comfortable one way or the other. It's about disspelling hyper bole, sensationalizing headlines and posting miss leading negative propaganda about the Governement in general. I may disagree with some aspects of the Obama administration, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, State or Federal agencies. But that disagreement doesn't mean it's "OK" to get into someones face about it and talk BS about the issue. Just the facts are all I need.
...that was funny, more left turns than a NASCAR driver.

Now where did I say I was comfortable with what Obama is doing/wants to do?
I do not like Obama and I never have. I think he is very full of himself, though I expect that of most Presidents. I have not and will not ever vote for him.
That still does not change the fact that we are not going to have a Marxist government any time soon.
Steve

Just for the record, in case you missed it, I like Obama! I think he's doing a great job, for the most part. Don't agree with every aspect of it, but all in all, I'm OK with it.
I'm really looking forward to his second term. Unfettered by the need to be re-elected just think of the things he could get done!

Steve,
As an engineer, I overcome new math by teaching my kids proper math. Works very well. The trick is to stay on top of it.
And to the rest, yes, Pravda has it's adherants and critics, just like Fox and CNN. But the author made some very salient points (whether he/she knew it or not)

There is no such thing (here) as a rapid slide to Marxism (or better, socialism). Its gradual. So gradual, most folks do not even sense it until its too late. Then one day, like the great Reagan said, you wake up and you finally reallize you have no liberty at all.
Fight on warriors. Obama is losing ground. And its ours to keep if we are vigilant.
