Default My Car Update

The latest I've heard is that my ERA kit will be done July 18th or there abouts. After waiting this long it's hard to believe it's actually less than a month away!

Default I don't think I have a serial number yet

At least you have a serial number. I wonder what numbers they are up to on the 427? I sure hope I don't get 666, I'm sure nothing good could come of it!

Default I'm sure they will...

Peter and the boys are clever guys, I'm sure they will skip it, like the 13th floor.

Chaplin recently got 650, I kinda doubt there are 16 between mine and his.

Just one of those crazy things you worry about while you wait for your car .

Chuck
If you're taking delivery on July 18th, you must have a car number by now. I've known what mine was for a couple months. I'd call up Peter and ask him. I too was relieved when I found out it wasn't 666, they probably will skip it.

And don't pay attention to the numbers on the 289s, they don't mean much, they issue those years in advance. In fact, TP's car went back into the fiberglass shop for some "special" mods and it may be there for a couple more months. Just ask him, he'll be happy to tell you about it

Hey.
Glad to here that bad boy is almost here.
What did you decide to do for the engine ??
You had mentioned using a 390 (?) until
you got the 427 built.
Let me know if you need a hand.
Cheers,
Bill Cook

p.s. mine is STILL a work in progress,
Rick and Larry just keep taunting me !!

Default I need to come visit your paint samples

Hey Bill,
Yeah, I need to come visit your paint samples sometime. Painting will likely be the first thing I do. Maybe we should paint ours together?

Yes I'm building a 390 to put in my pickup which will be used in the cobra for a while. I haven't built it yet but have most of the parts gathered. I also got a dual quad manifold for the 427 so more decisions .

Also... me and a buddy are going to the monterey historics so maybe we'll see you there.

Later, Chuck

Thumbs up As if......

mine was anywhere close to being ready for paint.

I think I will watch and learn!!!

It will be too cool to park them side by side.

Yours in street dress and mine in full S/C dress.

Both a correct Guardsman Blue.

Have fun in Monterey.

Cheers,
BC

Default Not much news yet.

My kit isn't done yet. I'm pretty much in a constant state of frenzy now . To make matters worse, Peter from ERA called me yesterday to discuss shipping expenses, but after talking a while we realized he had mistakenly grabbed the wrong folder and called me by mistake about someone elses car! Agony

I did find out they are going to skip serial number 666, the other guys car is serial 664.

I did drop off my heads for the "352 becoming a 390" part of the project today. On Ron Golden's recommendation I took them to K&M in Raytown. Seem like nice folks and a nice facility. The heads are C4AE-G castings and I had them install CJ sized stainless valves I got off ebay and do minor pocket porting. The oversize valve job was $150 and $250 for the porting. I don't have a lot of experience but it seems like the pricing is good? Noland Cylinder head wanted $225 for the oversize valve install, I didn't get a price for pocket porting. I don't really expect them to flow like edelbrock's but they should be a bit better than stock low-risers?

I'm also busying myself with the rebuild of the 289 in my Dad's old '67 galaxie. I really don't deserve to have this much fun .

Later, Chuck

Cool

Hey Chuck !!!

Great looking little block.

Let me know how K&M works out.
Raytown is alot closer than Gessfords.

Did the 150.00 include a three angle valve job
and assembling the heads ??
If so, that's cheap.

Cheers,
Bill Cook

Default Yep the whole deal.

$150 was to disassemble, clean, 3 angle valve job, and reassemble. I provided the valves, springs, retainers keepers. She said I'd probably have another $30 for valve stem seals and shims as needed.

I thought it sounded good.

Default K&M Called today

They added hardened exhaust seats for $100 and that I need guide work done. Sounds like it's getting a little more expensive but I plan to run these heads a long time, in the cobra and then my "period" tow rig - '66 F-100.

Default the era waiting is almost over

hey Chuck, that was my folder Peter had the other day, mine will be ready to ship july 30, $1175 shipping to Parkville by the way. I think they've been a little confused on our cars more than once, I was told July 18 for a ship date several months ago. What stage are you getting? I'm getting the basic kit with no bonding or powder coat, all parts to put it together, and a used rearend. Good luck picking your colors, the more you think about it the tougher the choices. This week I'm going to talk one of our painters into spraying out some test panels with some different colors, you can't trust the little chips in the paint books.

Default Wow I can see why that's confusing!

What are the odds of two Chuck B's who live < 30 miles apart buying the same car at the same time? Crazy.

Glad to hear yours is on the way soon, I have no idea how far behind mine is. I was really hoping you were in california, the shipping was more than I was expecting. Not that I really have a good way to go get it, but it's kinda tempting.

I kinda went overboard on my order, almost checking all the boxes I think. Mine will be a roller when it gets here, but I am painting it myself. Hope it comes before it gets too cold to paint. I am going for a street car look with undercar exhaust (I have small children). So no stripes guardsman blue is the current thinking. It will have a hood scoop and 2 rollbar hoops. I am also getting the outboard brake suspension and pin drive wheels. Like I said I kinda went overboard. Can't wait to see it, I'm really chomping at the bit. My wife is excited too.

Do you suppose I could come over and envy when your's gets here?

Take Care, Chuck

Default I think I have a serial number!

665 is written on the top of a new copy of the work order Peter sent me.

Consecutive serial numbers would be pretty cool huh?

Default getting closer

Hey Chuck, yeah come on over when mine gets here I've got a couple of da's and sanding blocks, LOL. I am hoping that the shipping company doesn't drag thier heels too much, I toyed with the idea of going to pick it up myself but that's a long drive. I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all but unless you have some proir experience painting, some of these new clears can be rather tricky to work with. Talk to you later. Charlie

Default Painting

Yeah I'm sure you are right about the painting. I painted three cars in high school and college and they turned out good (of course that was twenty years ago). And recently I've been using PPG catalyzed acrylic and though I've only painted a tail gate and a steering column, I got the feeling yeah I can make this work. I've heard the best match for guardsman blue is with dupont so I guess I need to learn their system for this car.

It'll be fun

Default This is the look I'm after...

This is CSX 3111 and that is basically what I want mine to look like. Just add a hood scoop and two black rollbars and you're there. CDB

Don't know much about Dupont's system, every shop I've worked in the last 15 yrs used ppg, but if ppg is a little off on color match you want it's not that big a problem to tint it. If this car
is the look you're after I'm assuming you're going with 15" wheeels ? I'm still up in the air about 15's or 17's. BTW, I'm a body tech not a painter, so any info I have comes from them. Talk to you later. Charlie
