3m Clear "Bra"
Has anyone had experience with someone who can professionally install the 3M Scotchguard protection on a Cobra in KC?

You might check with a Mercedes dealership. I never got around to it as I have not done paint touch up.....but dealership in town (Omaha) was perfectly willing to do and good place to get top quality. I think they wanted $250 or so.

Check with window tint vendors, it is usally an associated product that they handle.

There has been some discussion of 3M clear bras on meguiarsonline.com. It seems that while the material may protect the paint underneath, it is quite difficult to keep it clear and free of scratches and swirl marks. Further, nobody seems to know how to get any marks out of the bra.
Most of the professional detailers I know stay away from clear bras.

This is the first I've heard about marks on the material. I guess a few marks on the 3M would be better than the marks on the paint. The 3M material could always be removed and replaced. There is a 5 year warranty for discoloration. But, if it's junk, I'd rather not part with the cash.
Anybody else have any insight?

I've had the bra on my Jag s type r for over 3 years and it has not discolored, faded or otherwise detracted from the original look. It does look odd because you can see the edge well but it has saved the front end paint numerous times---- the roads in Phoenix are terrible for road junk

Wolfeman:
I would recommend you go see the guys out at PDI Auto in Shawnee, KS - 913-422-1742. Here's their website: http://www.pdiauto.com/
They offer Venture Shield and Llumar paint protection. They are great guys, and that's who I'll be taking my Cobra to later this summer to have the clear bra installed on the nose, the rear fender flares, and behind the rear tires. I have seen their handiwork on a lot of the exotics around town; Ferrari's, Porsche's, Lambo's, etc., and every one is top notch.

Thanks Russ. I spoke with them this morning. I got the car yesterday and have put quite a few miles on it already. Definitely want to get the bra on before the first chip appears.

Wise thinking. It's gonna cost me extra to fix all the existing chips prior to installation of the protective shields.

Wolfeman,
I have the 3m brand and it was installed by the dealership at time of purchase. I have been very pleased with it. My business partner has it on his black jag and it is very obvious on a black vehicle though.

After visiting with Eric and Dennis at PDI (and seeing their work) I am having them install it on the front, rear fender flares and behind the rear tires. They are doing on June 7th.
Russ: I will let you know how it turns out.

PDI did a decent job on the Cobra. I give them a lot of credit for "sticking with it". They are good at what they do but took on a large task they may not have been prepared for. They are good folks.
Unfortunately, there are many more seams than either of us had envisioned. I have quite a bit of protection now and could begin off-roading if I choose . Fortunately, unless you really look hard, it's difficult to see the material on the electric blue. From several feet away, it's virtually invisible.
Russ: You may want to look at the end result before you decide what to do.

Marc:
Thanks for the heads up. I guess the Cobras have a lot more curves than exotics they normally do, and maybe that became an issue? I look forward to seeing your ride.
