Karl's Drive Fall Colors 9/14/02

Please note that the September MHCC "Colors Tour" is rescheduled for SATURDAY, September 14 to start from Morrison, just east of the stop light, at 7:30AM. This is due to the original destination of Manitou Lakes still being drained and we just drove the Pine Valley Road in July, but more importantly, we have a very unique opportunity to view the exotic and racing cars which participated in the 2002 Colorado Grand 1000 mile tour; they will be on display in Vail on September 14 from 9AM until Noon. The Colorado Grand has been an annual event for about 14 years and some of the world's most interesting, exotic and expensive sports, classic and racing cars participate. (Past participants have included a 1958 Ferrari 250TR , Jaguar SS100, XKC, XKD &XKSS, Maserati and Alfa Romeo competition racing cars, Porsche Spyders, and many more).
We'll meet in Morrison at 7:15AM to depart at 7:30AM sharp, travel C470 to Hiway 285, then west to Fairplay, then Hiway 9 north over Hoosier Pass to Frisco, then I-70 west over Vail Pass to Vail. This should be a very good time and route to view the changing Aspen trees. I estimate that we'll arrive in Vail at about 10:30AM which will give us more than an hour to view the cars. We'll then find a restaurant for lunch before the return trip.
