Guess what we saw Yesterday
For all of you who know me, you know that there is not much that excites me. And that I am a very calm person. Well, I got excited Yesterday.
We were in Idaho Springs on the Payne Less Squaw Pass Skidaddle and as we turned on to the Mt Evans highway, we came up behind a Black Original Cobra. After we followed him for a couple of miles, he pulled over and let us worship the car. Otto Werlin and his wife were on a little drive. Mr. Werlin bought the 1963 car in 1971. It is a 260 CI. 40,000 miles. Original paint and engine has never had the heads off of it. Runs like a top. Car number 2052. 52nd Cobra built. What a car and Mr. and Mrs. Berlin are the nicest people.
The whole trip was wonderful. How do we do the weather thing? Heard all week how bad the weather was going to be and then we have a day like yesterday. 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Thank you Bob and Peggy Payne. We had 15 cars (Including Tony Popish and his Daytona Coupe) join us at Albertson's. Also had a couple Vipers (Stannard and Russo). Brunch at the El Rancho was wonderful after one of our favorite roads - Deer Creek Canyon Road. No traffic today and we could get a little spirited once in a while. As we exited off of I-70 at Idaho Springs we almost lost Dan & Kristin Steinwagner in a Cobra / SUV encounter. Close as you can get and walk away. After we visited with the Werlin's (Did I mention that we saw an original Cobra on our drive?) we drove on up to Echo Lake. There was some Corvette thing going on at the lodge and so we got to see a few really nice Corvettes.
Then on over Squaw Pass to Bergen Park. Then Lookout Mountain to Golden for an Ice Cream cone on main street. What a day and did I mention we saw an original Cobra?
If you have not RSVP'd to JoAnne Patrick, please do so right now for the BBQ. We have 50 people signed up so far. This will be fun and it is free to all Mile Hi Cobra Club members who RSVP by 8/30.
See you Saturday,
Dick Thompson
PS. Will have pictures soon on the web site of the Werlin car and the trip.

Sounds like one of those perfect days (other than the close encounter with the SUV) that make things all worthwhile. It's what it's all about.
Cheers, John

John,
Do you work for Kit Car Magazine? We would like to get our club featured in Kit Car Magazine, but so far there is no interest in featuring a Car Club in the magazine. I think people might like to know what some owners are doing with their cars. Seems to me that all you read about in Kit Car is the big events and the Factory Built cars. Not much for the little guy who just enjoys the car and driving it. Can you help?

Sounds like a great car . I'd always thought that there were very few cars built with the 260 engine and that CS went with the 289 for considerably more power. I must have been mistaken if the 52nd car had a 260.

After we saw the car, I checked one of my Cobra Books "Haynes Great Cars - AC Cobra" According to this, the first 75 cars built had 260's. Worm and sector steering. Leaf Springs. Wire Wheels. We will have pictures posted soon on our web site. www.milehicobraclub.com
