The Estes Park trip is now rescheduled for this Saturday 8/20.
I checked with the weather people (Finally) and Channel 9 says 85 with little chance of rain. The Weather Channel says 76 with a good chance of rain. I like Channel 9, so lets give this trip to Estes Park one more try. OK?
If you would like to go please let me know. 303-699-4819 or
thompson660@cs.com Also please let me know where you will meet us. That way I can plan of seeing you and have some idea of the number of cars we should have at any time.
I have to make lunch reservations for our group. Estes Park Brewery. Cost should be from $10 to $15 for a lunch. Will have more details on Saturday. Let me know if you want lunch and how many will be eating.
1st Meeting Place
8:00 - The gas station across the street (north side of street) from the King Soopers at Hampden Ave. and Monaco Parkway (a couple blocks east of I-25 and Hampden Ave)
We will leave there at 8:15 and drive north on I-25 to 84th Ave. If you need gas or a potty break, please get to the meeting place early and have it out of the way. That way we can get on the road on time and meet the rest of the people.
2nd Meeting Place
8:45 - The Econo Gas Station at SW corner of 84th and Conifer Road (a couple of blocks west of I-25 and 84th Ave)
We will leave there at 9:00 and drive north on I-25 to Exit #255 (Loveland) and turn west on CO 402
3rd Meeting Place
9:45 - The Shamrock Station at the NE Corner of CO 402 and US 287 (south end of Loveland)
We will leave there at 10:00 and drive north on US 287 to west US 34 and then follow US 34 up Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park.
After Lunch - many options for you to pick.
1) Shop until you drop in Estes Park and then drive home via one of the many ways home. Candy tells me that all the stores will ship the stuff you buy home, so you can buy great big things.
2) Drive back down Big Thompson Canyon US 34 (a second chance to follow that out of state mini van at 10 MPH)
3) Drive down US 36 (A whole different set of mini vans to follow)
4) Drive down US 34 to CO 7 to CO 119
5) Drive over Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake and then home via Winter Park. Warning - They charge you $20 to drive over Trail Ridge Road (You are now talking about the 40' long motor homes and buses and "NO GUARD RAILS"). Also the highway people have decided to tear up the road after you leave Winter Park. Be prepared for off road conditions for a few miles.
6) And I just heard that there is a car show in Estes Park from 10-3:30. $5.00 entry fee with protected parking in downtown Estes Park. Sounds as though they are honoring model T's, but it could be fun to arrive en mass with a bunch of cobras. I will call them and see if we can bring a few (25?) Cobras. If you are interested in doing this, let me know so I can reserve space for us.
